This is just what us EM collectors side of the hobby needs to keep our EM games alive and well into the future. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us EM lovers.

I just want to say THANK YOU to Joe for all these videos. I have my Bally Nip It pinball machine working at 100% thanks to you. It is the machine I grew up playing in the 70's almost every day. I saved every quarter to play this game back in the day. I was lucky to find this machine years ago and be its new owner. Joe and his videos helped me to recapture my youth with these videos, and get my Nip It machine back in great working condition.

I know just how you feel Marty. When I was a teen I played a pin called Black Knight (came out in 1980). I lived and breathed to play that machine. 2 levels, magna saves. Just a blast of a game. Well about 8 years ago I got the chance to buy one. When I play it, it is like being in a time machine that transports me back to my youth. I love watching Ron's videos as he has worked on the very machine I have. It has helped me problem solve many times. I live in a small community up here in Canada. So no one to fix it but me around here. Glad to know someone is living the dream as I do. Cheers and high scores to you Marty!

@@paulclarke7571 I understand completely because I also live in a small city in Northern Ontario Canada. I wanted to raise my knowledge on these EM pinball machines as there is really no one left around here that will do any work on them. I love playing this machine and love learning all I can about them. I hope to add one more machine some day , the Bally Circus machine which I also grew up playing. All the best to you and high scores to you also Paul. Such a pleasure meeting someone that feels as strongly as I do about these machines of our youth. I still put quarters in, for old times sake,,,lol.

@@martyc8971 My wife is from small town Ontario. Palmerston (a farming town) about an hour from Guelph. Beautiful place! We live in Sechelt B.C. now. Just moved up here from New Westminster in the last year. So Sechelt is the small town with now pinball techs around. It was easy in New Westminster as there is a place called John's Jukes that can fix anything. So like I said, I am pretty much solo here for fixing. What town are you in Marty? Also, With Ron bolstering my fixing ability, I was able to redesign my other machine. I swore I was not going to harm the machine and created a 'skin" on the outside so I could add my mods etc. Here's a link to a video of it. Let me know what you think....kzbin.info/www/bejne/sKOwe4V5osuLq7s

@@paulclarke7571 I am in Sudbury Ontario, about 4 hrs north of Toronto. There really is no one up here that gets involved with pinball machines. The last person that used to work them left the business and I tried to buy as many old parts as possible from him. The 2 pinball machines I grew up playing throughout the 70's was Nip It and Circus. I am still looking to find a Bally Circus. More recently, I also have the Stern Elvis pinball machine to add a more modern feel and the music. I try to educate myself as much as possible on the EM machines first. I try to keep the Bally as original as possible and converted the Elvis machine over to LED. I tried LED on the Bally but it took away the oldie goldie apppeal,,,so I put back the standard bulbs. I have my pics posted on the Pinside forum. WOW that steam dream is amazing!!!! I had to watch it few times....its GREAT!!!!!
@paulclarke7571
@paulclarke7571 2 жыл бұрын
@@martyc8971 Well there you go. I get what you mean about LEDs. On most of the older machines they just don't look right since the machines were never meant to have that intense brightness. More subtle incandescence are the look I feel. I kept mostly incandescence on my Black Night for just that reason. In just a few spots I put LED, to balance the colour effect I was after. It really comes down to individual taste. Here's a second video on how Steam dream actually operates. It was a fun build and the first try for me. I'll never spend a year like that again. It did give me something to due during the Covid days of 2021. Here's the other video..kzbin.info/www/bejne/iKnaopdqZtSFgdk

Well, I'm feeling a little better about myself now. Last year having been inspired by this channel, I was bringing a machine back to life. After replacing a coil (pretty straight forward stuff), I turned on the machine saw a puff of smoke, and a dead machine with a blown fuse. Yep, diode attached. The dumb thing is, I noted the diode when I opened the parcel, but forgot about it by the next day.

For those who don't know the function of the diode placed in parallel to the coil: It protects the driving circuit from overvoltage that is generated by induktion when the coil is turned off. The diode short circuits this induction voltage and so it cannot reach the driver. As Ron said, this is used for DC driven coils only. On AC the diode causes a short circuit at the moment the coil is driven which should be avoided

Thx. I may be facing a similar issue with a Ballys game circa 1977. Their schematics are not as good as this one. Replaced a slow blow fuse, and things worked for a while. Now it's going to be a treasure hunt to locate the relay that may be the culprit.

The bonus unit was also stuck on 2000 and didin't count down, so that was another clue. It could never get to 0 as it wasn't counting down :). These things are really not that complex. They follow a logical path.. Pretty wel la computer just made out of relays. With that said, you make this look so easy. You are really great with your troubleshooting. You can get things from "It's broke" to amazing playing game and film a video about it all to show us how to do it.

If the hole kicker still do not work, check if the switches on the G Relay close properly, one of those holds the relay on when the ball is in the hole, another switch goes to the motor via a switch on the E relay bonus score relay that have to be closed black and red wire and the motor switch 4C activates the kicker to kick the ball out. Check the switches on the G relay first because you hear a click. That means the G relay goes on.The problem is probably that one switch do not close to complete the circuit to the ball eject coil.I looked on the diagram in your video. I hope that information will help to solve that problem. I worked in E. M. pinball repair about 40 years ago.

I remember July 4, 1776 I was living in Troy, NY Home of Uncle Sam Fun Fact: Uncle Sam was the first government contractor He supplied canned meat to the government Uncle Sam meat packing company I don't remember why, but I was living up near 120th st, but for the parade I was down near 111th street I remember the parade and it was huge And I remember seeing the guy dressed as Uncle Sam The Uncle Sam meat company became Hembolds meat packing company and they have he best little hot dogs in the world They sell a kit where you can buy the hot dogs, buns, mustard and sauce, but it never tastes the same There are lots of restaurants and bars and roadside summer hamburger shacks that sell these little hot dogs and they are absolutely amazing If you ever have the chance to get up to the Troy New York area there are a few places that are very famous one of them is hot dog Charlie's and they are my personal best and if you ask for the works that's how they usually come with the onions and the meat sauce and the mustard in a steamed bun with a little hot dog with a natural casing and they are like nothing else you'll ever have There's also a place called Gus's that's in watervliet an old place it's been there forever where hot dog Charlie's has a place in Cohoes that's been there since the 20s and they have a couple places around the Capital District And the other thing that I have not found any place else is the fish fry which is a long piece of haddock that is deep fried and put in a hot dog roll and they put sweet chili which is ketchup and green sweet relish mixed together and you can get tartar sauce if you want or ketchup or just plain but it's really really good and they have homemade onion rings which are just incredible Ted's Fish Fry is on 2nd avenue in North Troy and there's several other Ted's Fish fries around the Capital District and there are a couple other chains that have fish fry as well and they also do clam rolls and scallop rolls and the french fries are awesome and the onion rings are awesome and the shakes are really good I'm planning to go up to see relatives and Friends hopefully next week and I have been jonesing for years for those fish fry and those hot dogs and I plan on eating them every single day that I'm there and I may even bring some back with me in a cooler. When I was in Kennebunkport Maine driving right along the ocean I stopped one night at this local restaurant that was right on the ocean and they had the lobster traps right out back of the restaurant and they had a double lobster dinner with all the trimmings for 9.95 and they were the best lobsters I've ever had. I think it was in Massachusetts or Rhode Island that I had I think it was Cape cod that I had the lobster roll where they steam the lobster tail and then they put it in a hot dog roll with mayonnaise and that was really good There are just some items that you can only get in very specific places and those fish fries in Troy New York are absolutely incredible and those hembolds mini hot dogs are absolutely incredible. You should try opening up a little hot dog stand with the hembold hot dogs. It's really simple the hot dogs cook on a flat iron grill and the rolls you just put in the steamer and the meat sauce you put in a double boiler and the mustard is in a bowl in a double boiler with ice in it to keep the mustard cold and the onions are the same ones they use at McDonald's that come in a bag that you pour in a quart container and fill it with water and put it in the fridge overnight and you cut the buns and you put them in the steamer and you take the buns out and you put the hot dog in the bun and you have one of those white plastic frosting things and you just dab mustard across the hot dog and then throw a little bit of onions on the mustard and then you take a soup spoon and you drizzle the meat sauce on top of the onions They use cardboard trays that hold 12 of these little hot dogs at once It's something that I think would catch on anywhere if it was introduced the same thing with the fish fries the consistency is just different than anything else If I was young and healthy I would rent the old Subway shop that went out of business here in town and I would do both the hot dogs and the Fish Fry
