We have been keeping bees for about three years now. We wear head nets but no gloves or suit, long pants and long sleeve shirts. I am amazed you are doing this in short pants. How many times has a bee flown up your pants and made things swell? And I don't mean in a good way!! Other than that, great video! Very helpful! We lost a hive this spring and I think that was the reason for it. Very little, very spotty brood. There wasn't many bees left, then the others robbed and killed what was there.

Isn't double egg comb a result of a worker laying instead of a queen?

Most of the time yes. If you have a new queen sometimes she will lay double eggs in cells to start with but most of the time it’s a laying worker

Bees do crazy things. I have never seen a laying worker hive with a queen in it

Christine McDonald also newly mates queens do that iv seen her do that myself also iv had another hive with limited cell space do the same thing healthy queen laying 2 or 3 eggs in a cell laying workers lay everywhere 8 plus eggs on the sides of cells and in pollen they cannot reach the bottom of a cell just thought I’ll share ☺️

Could be a virgin queen to start with but if there is lots and lots of cells with lots of eggs in them it’s a laying worker

Great video but I have one question. With the numbers so low already, is it really worth the resources to try and save the hive? The numbers looked so low that it seemed you were starting from scratch anyway.

That's why I added bees to the box. Sometimes this works out, sometimes it does not

So I need to find the queen and remove her and then get another queen? Also do I need to inspect all the frames in both boxes?

If the queen is bad and not laying you will have to remove her. Wait a few days (2-3) and introduce a new queen in a cage.

yes im in pa i have a hive from nuc i got in may had ants get in a they had a rough start my weak hive actually looks like it is comeing around
