I purchased this vehicle back in February and was extremely surprised with the interior finishes as well as the overall build quality of the car. For the price, you are paying for what you can get with the various safety features, the quality of the build, the interior finishes and also some other clever features with the MG HS it does present to be a good buy. However, it falls behind in overall customer service and some features of the car.

My late dad's third car was truly amazing; when he'd bought it, neighbours came out to see it and praised my dad for his good taste and fortune. The car had a radio!!!!!!!!!! Nobody else had a car with a radio until much later. It was AM, shite quality through one little speaker at the front but it was a radio!!! If you'd forgotten to pull the aerial out you had to wait till there was a layby. We didn't care. We had a radio in our car. Watching your video confuses me. What the fuck has happened to the human race? If my dad could watch someone complain about a half-second delay on the rear -view camera he'd tell you to see your GP.

Hello. I have a manual MG HS luxury and it has problems with the lane keeping assist, it only warns with a beep and vibrates. In the workshops in Spain they only reprogram but it is not fixed. Do you have experience? Can you help me?

However, can you please elaborate a bit more on the reverse camera resolution quality (whether it is 1080p or better, or just like normal 760p SD, or even worse like crappy Nissan/Honda quality)? Hi Brett I can’t find the exact resolution of the reverse cam but it’s pretty good and crisp both during day and night but I’ll say it’s probably a 760p . If it’s a concern then make sure you check with the dealer. Unfortunately There is no built in dash cams . Good luck cheers

Hi Jason, thanks for the video as I actually found that really useful. Recently purchased a MG HS Excite and have to say was pleasantly surprised by some of the real quality in places. Whilst I thought some of the observations like the key and rear camera lag were possibly over critical, I also thought the way you managed that customer service issue (being in a similar industry myself) was on point. Overall, I think you get a lot more back in this car than what you actually pay for it.

If you want a cheap company car for staff to last the 4 year lease - fine If you change cars every 5 years, the same. But i like to know it will last 7-10 years Oh and 7 year warranty is basically useless if the dealer cant fix it and says "call the factory"

I totally agree with your view of MG dealer's customer service. I bought a new MG HS and always had to call them back for an update. Update of finance approval, when the car will be ready...they never called me to update. Then they lost the key to the car they booked for me, gave me a another one which had aircon problem and scratch on the door. Again I had to keep on calling them up for updates. After getting it back, the aircon broke down again after 2 weeks. I called them up on 8th September and they have booked the checkup for 5th October. Imagine the lack of urgency to address a new buyer's concern. I really don't know what's in store for me. But never going to buy an MG again...not to mention I'm looking forward to selling it next year.

3 years is a long time ago for China cars. Just bought a 2023 MG HS Phev and have none of the problems! No turn knob for temperature control is now universal! I tried the VW Arteon Shooting brake, that cost twice as a similar MG and it hasn't got any turn knob for temperature either.

Hi Tarig, thanks for watching. Yes certainly there is some turbo lag, for me, the turbo kicks in at about 40km? but I think it's fine we are not buying a racing car nor should be expecting it. I also own a Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart that also has Turbo lag. I am ok with it. What about you?

Hi thanks for watching. If we compare the tech, the interior, the touch and feel I think the HS gives you more bang for your buck. Hyundai Tucson have been around for a while so you know what you’ll get. I guess it comes down to if you care about the brand ? The depreciation value as the HS is still a new car there is not a lot of data and your budget. For me MG offers 7 years warranty as well so I was ok with it.

I just brought my mg for one month and the wiper and reverse sensor already breakdown. Send for my 1000km service and got it repair. The service Center staff are not so professional they send a reception to check and enquire about my car and after that the report send to a mechanic and I had to go thru the whole thing to explain to him once more??? Why not the mechanic come in the first place. When I come pick up my car the mechanic still not present and I had to ask the receptionist for the service report and he then told me the wiper and sensor is done.

ive got a 2020 ford focus active and the delay on that screen is 2 seconds so 1 second is faster than the ford. nit picking about the key and solong it works it wouldnt bother me. press and hold the aircon button up or down and will alter the aircon with the aircon display aircon at the top.

Thanks for your video. I took delivery of a MG HS+EV Essence a few days ago, so take my further comments with a hint of new buyer bias, but I also have a VW Tiguan 2018 in my garage which I am handing back this week. I also had the previous VW Tiguan R type as a personal car before that. Useful video for me, but I do have some feed back. I agree that the infotainment and some other features have some lag. It feels like a second delay, but if you actually use your video and time the frames, it is often below. Also, I test drove a current model VW Tiguan before going for the MG and it’s infotainment system still has lag outside of CarPlay. I use mainly Apple play anyway and the lag is then identical with current cars. Waze and Google maps leave any proprietary nav system for dead so why would I switch back to them... (I also reprogram the * button on the steering wheel to jump back into CarPlay if I need to quickly after another screen.) I agree that separate aircon temp would be better but I tend to set my climate control and leave it alone. I’m not getting the sound you describe from the aircon, but I always play podcasts or music so probably not a problem to me. For new buyers, I had to get past the idea of jumping from German to Chinese, but no regrets so far. And go for the higher priced MG. You get a lot of value for the extra $, and it comes with rear reading lights. 😊 Despite all this your dislikes, I appreciate that you still recognize the car for what it is…excellent value for money. My HS+EV so far has proven to be the best value gateway drug for me before buying an EV next time. And I have no range anxiety if I need to do a long country run.

You're such a nice guy! far too nice. You gave them plenty of opportunity to sort the problem, and every time they let you down. Myself, one chance, two chances, third and final chance. After that it would be keys slammed on the table, reject the car, and ask for a full refund. How dare a dealership tell a customer "deal with MG yourself? How absolutely dare they? It could be the most technological car on the road sold for a pittance, but if that technology plays up and the dealership can't put it right in a timely fashion, then it soon becomes a pain in the ass. Personally as things stand right now, I wouldn't even look at a Chinese car. (If you look at it from below does it have "Made in Hong Kong" etched on its bum!) I have the Nissan Qashqai Tekna 1.3L 160BHP DCT (It's also called "The Rouge" in some countries) and it's a sheer delight in terms of ownership. The only time it has been back to the showroom, it was purchased new in November 2020, was for a service and a Nissan recall, which was dealt with extremely quickly and professionally. Now the Qashqai costs considerably more than the MG HS, but looking at your comments and other people's ownership here on KZbin, it's not difficult to understand the price difference. My wife and I are planning to buy our first car ever and we are considering the MG because all the features that you get and the great price. Hi Cam, the slight delay in the screen can’t be fixed it’s just the system. This happens even with branded vehicles and it doesn’t bother me. Overall I am happy with the car I have to say MG is getting better and better. I just went for a service today and they said they going to bring out another 2 variant of the HS. I can’t advise you to buy or not do a test drive and just get a feel for the car. I do see many many MG and LDV cars on the road now.

Your MG HS is the cheaper one That why your reverse camera have such delay and it doesn't have 360 degree view. Moreover you said that you are doesn't have lights for the back seats. Again in the more expensive model you will get this feature as well. Finally you said that the car key is so light weight that you assume that it is build of cheap material. I ask you why do you need a heavy car key? The difference of 10-11 grams is not a big deal. And what are you looking for in such price bracket?

In terms of climate control - you can close the screen by pressing the X in the top left corner - you don't have to go 'home' first. There is an issue though, is using CarPlay, when selecting any Climate settings, it also has the effect of selecting whatever is sat behind it in - example, if you're playing Spotify - and you change the temperature, it thinks you're changing tracks - or whatever depending where on the screen you press! infuriating We have made the mistake of the HS and regret it, we have had endless issues, mostly software related that just take the entire shine off the cars. One car was delivered and none of the software worked, the screen didn't work, couldn't change the climate control - this was as soon as we left the dealership! they couldn't deal with it so had a car in freezing weather unable to turn the heat on or de-mist the windows. Then they took it back in and it took them a week to update the software - why? because they had no clue what to do, everything had to be passed back to China for instructions! We've since had issued with everything from gear change, inappropriate bongs and beeps, high beam lights blinding drivers ahead, screen freezes, etc. etc. The car is marketed with a whole load of safety features - self steer, radar cruise control etc - none of it works well, you can't use MG Pilot on the highway because it just keeps bonging at you, for example when using lane keeping assist (where it will keep you in lane) if you indicate to change lane it just bongs at you and then again when you've changed lane - each and every time! so a few miles stretch of highway will result in about 100 bongs - bongs that are always at full volume and with a deeply unpleasant tone. We've had to turn off most of these features because they just cause so much distraction - downside to that of course is that when you start the car up, it will go through an endless diagnostic and then bing at you to tell you you've turned these things off - each every time you start the car and you can be half way down the road and it will still keep bonging at you. The frustrations all these warnings, mostly unjustified warnings is to cause so much anxiety I just feel like driving the car into a wall and then beating every panel with a baseball bat! it's that frustrating to own. My advice, having real experience of owning - avoid them like the plague - look good, feel good, cheap - absolutely terrible execution and not worth the hassle, far too much software dependency and all of the software feels badly written and a generation or two out of date - they use all of this tech as a selling point when in fact, it's all so poorly done it renders the car virtually unusable when it goes wrong (and it WILL go wrong) Go buy a Kia or Hyundai instead - wish we had every time we pick up the key.

Hi Royal, I also tested the Haval, trust me the Haval is nowhere near as good as the MG. The turbo lag in the Haval is really bad and the infotainment looks very dated also Haval is not 5 star ANCAP rated in AUS. Also the MG is really becoming a popular car in Australia so I personally think the resale value will be better compared to the Haval. I think overall MG Is a great car considering the price point and as i mentioned in the video the dislikes I mentioned are minor I am ok with it :) God bless you too. All the best!!

Jason I think you are a pretty hard marker - as for the key weight I think you’ll find the metal key for the KIA is the difference in weight. With so many great things about the car I think you have focused on very minor stuff. As for your sat nav problem - difficult fault to track - I’ve had mine for 4 weeks and can’t fault it

Hi all, came here for some feedback about issues I’m experienced with my MG HS excite. Would Like to hear your take on these; -lagging in gear change mostly 1st to 2nd. I believe it’s the turbo, however I experience a drop in power often when turning corners from a stop I expect it’s the same thing? - vibration and shaking when using the cars Momentum to move; like driving into a car space or stuck in traffic. I find it highly annoying and embarrassing as everyone can feel it, I had to have a courtesy car over the weekend (same make but the base model) and it didn’t do it. They told me there is nothing wrong with it. -the lane detection warning is only a beep now. It use to beep and show a image on the dash to indicate what the alters was for, why has that gone? I also feel that it kicks in at 60kms p/h but is often still on when I go below that speed. -the lag between pressing the buttons and it responding is annoying but you have mentioned that on you video I’m from Sydney Australia 🇦🇺

Hi Kylie, thanks for watching. I am not a car expert but happy to share the following: 1. Your average cars will experience some kind of turbo lags, I've previously owned a sports car and even that still has a bit of turbo lag. Your turbo normally kicks in after you reach around I think 3000 - 4000 rpms and or around 40km/h. I don't lose power whilst seating idle and turning, however, I do loose power when travelling at 60km/h and have to reduce to like 30km to turn i then have to push hard to get it going. Note that it is only a 1.5L turbo so it is a bit small compared to the size of the car. 2. Hard for me to comment as I haven't experienced it first hand but vibration and shaking definitely not right!. My suggestion is to ask a passenger to video record it and show it to the dealer. Feel free to PM me which dealer you bought your car off? perhaps it's the same dealer I went to? I will probably take this further 3. Lane departure only kicks in at 60km if you drop to 58km it will still work. After that it doesn't. You'll know its activated when the lane depature warning indicator is green. I believe the LCD screen comes on when you are actually way off the lane you are in. If its just slightly it just beeps. 4. Yeah the infotainment screen is a bit slow, but I can live with it,. Hope I was able to shed some light. I think the vibration is something you need to get looked at.

The shaking is still occurring and I will need to get them to look further into it. You would 100% know what I would be referring too if you were experiencing this also. The loan car didn’t do it so it’s seems to be an issue. I brought it from Heartland Penrith.

Hey Jason, looking to purchase a HS Anfield which is the top spec. it's a 40k car which still is pretty cheap considering what it comes with. The infotainment system is super important to me and I noticed it was a bit slow when I took it for a spin prior to covid19. I also annoyed that they don't offer DAB+ again yes I know it's a cheap car but I would payan extra $2000k for a better infotainment and DAB. I think your review was good and fair. Of course we all have personal likes but I think you were fair. I work in importing goods and I deal with China Daily. They sometimes take some time to get things sent over but again $$ of the car is pretty good so we need to forgive some delays with this. I'm still unsure if I'll buy it. I did want to ask you what the fuel cost is like per 100klm I have heard it's high much more than they claim.

Hi Kouklos, thanks for watching and commenting. I am glad to hear you find the video to be informative and fair. With regards to the Sat Nav issue, there are more to it and it was hard to explain everything in a few minutes. What led me to believe they forgot about me was, I was actually told by the dealer that the part will arrive on a particular date and I waited a further 2.5 weeks and still didn't hear anything from the dealer and I don't believe it was a coincidence when I made the complaint on the weekend and I got the call on the Monday or Tuesday. The issue was more related to how the dealer handled the entire situation rather than the problem with the car. I was quiet happy to wait if I was kept updated on the issue rather being told sorry its up to MG now. To answer your question its about 10.1L-10.3L/100km. I think they claim to be 7.3 or something?

Wow the Fuel consumption is super high, I know that its a small engine but 10.3 hmm.... Its a nice looking car and has so much to offer, but just needs some further refinement I think. What would you have purchased if it wasn't for the HS ?

Yeah it is a bit high and occasionally you do have to step the accelerator down to get it going, but once you hit 40 km it will then take off.I was considering the Kia Seltos but it is a smaller car. Otherwise a VW Tiguan which was our preferred car. But the price of the MG was really good and if you are someone that don't really care about the brand then MG is great value for money.

Seems the only additions with the Anfield are Black Pearl and the Red leather - I found the sound quality excellent from the 8 speakers and yea sad they left the Dab+ off but apart from that it’s a great package. I’m getting 7.8 L / 100k with a mix of town and rural driving which is better than my Sonata 2.0L turbo.

I think your experiences is normal for mg ... their cars are now interesting but I would never buy one... you are brave. I'll keep buying toyotas... Koreans next.. I'll never buy European again... and I could never bring myself to buy Chinese car even you have so many options. Imagine if your car had a engine problem considering a simple wire fix couldn't even be done

Chinos..they just copied and copied everything to make a car but could not copy infosystems software..its simply too much for them..and GDI engines have inherited faults on accumulating carbon deposit in valves and scratching on engine walls causing noise.. vibration..bad fuel consumption..after/around 80k-90k trip.. owner need to pay a lump sum to fix these..not very reliable or economical car at all..

I got rid of my ZS a year and a bit in, because the dealer network is shocking. I am in the UK. It must be the fine margins they are working under, but i went for a Honda Civic and a far better car and better dealer care
