Hit the nail on the head! I ALWAYS recommend a "one step" or "enhancement". If its a client who sees what I see, I'll sympathize and make recommendations based on their expectations. Just today I did a maintenance wash on a vehicle I did a 1 step on several months ago - it had swirls again. He didn't notice. I did. All he pointed out was a scuff on the mirror he made himself carrying something! Listen to your customers and do what's best for THEM, not you.

@@Detailers-Business-Academy I experienced this first hand recently. I detailed an older black Camry for a client, the paint was hammered - no gloss or slickness, dull, lots a swirl marks and several deep scratches. But the clients main concern was the filthy interior. They mentioned the paint scratches, but had a budget they didn't want to go over. We agreed that I would address their main priorities and if I had time within their budget I'd see what I could do for the paint. Well I used up all the budgeted time without being able to do any paint correction/enhancement. I did do a through wash & decon of the paint and applied a spray ceramic sealant. When they picked the car up, I told them I didn't have much time to work on the paint but they were absolutely thrilled with how shiny it was and even comment "wow you made that big scratch that my Dad put in the hood look much better". I was very surprised for a second but then went along and said "yeah the 'wax' I used on it adds a nice shine and kind of blends in the scratches". Total adlib. LOL.

You don't know what the purchaser is doing to do once they brought the car. Just my thoughts 😉

Yvan, I was that customer you are describing and yet now trying to be 'a' detailer. I fully agree with you that the customer needs to be satisfied and our goal as detailers should match their expectations. It is not really that hard and once we come to terms with that level of expectations we can enjoy less stress and still produce a living. All our forums are littered with displays of beautiful results and everyone is so approving. Guess what, if we can produce clean cars and shiny protected sufaces the customer is happy, swirls and all. It is not a perfect world but neither is their cars and they do not care. Disclaimer: The curb rash done by my car's other driver drives me nuts. But why fix them and fix them and fix them?

I will take it to a professional detailer but will ask them to gently correct the paint in preparation of laying a ceramic coat. Not necessarily. Too much light can obscure as much as a lack of light can. I can look at a panel 100 times and not see something from multiple angles. Then on the 101st time I see a swirl or a scratch or something else. I do my best to check my work and rework what I find if it’s within reason or of my making. Ultimately, I tell my customers to give me a call within a week at the very most if they see something I may have missed. Nobody does, though.

Yvan, I just got my first ever paint thickness gauge in the mail. My wife’s Lincoln was in the 70’s and 80’s in microns, my truck which has Kamakaze Zipang that I applied about 3 months ago has readings at some spots over 200 microns, is this normal due to the coating??
@Detailers-Business-Academy2 жыл бұрын
The coating doesn’t add any thickness, chances are your truck may have been repainted.
@quintenqfinish3 жыл бұрын
How many micron should you remove ? Less than 10 ?
@Detailers-Business-Academy3 жыл бұрын
The less you remove the better.

Thanks Yvan. Interesting perspective. I have a question: how do you market to potential customers without pointing out to them the scratches on their cars. Thanks
@Detailers-Business-Academy3 жыл бұрын
When the customer comes to you it’s because they are not happy with their car. Sell protection, gloss, and enhancement, not perfection, scratch removal, and correction.

Can you explain what you mean all customers are the same? Ofcourse there are exceptions and those who use proper safe washing methods it's best not to over generalize or who follow videosnlike yours and have proper maintenance... maybe you mean most customers vs all?
@Detailers-Business-Academy2 жыл бұрын
Customers in all areas of the world are basically the same. Consumers want excellent customer service and value. The Nissan owner that washes his car with dish soap in Asia isn’t much different than the Nissan owner in Europe that washes his car with dish soap. Regional differences are not as pronounced as many people believe.
@anth1152 жыл бұрын
@@Detailers-Business-Academy but across that board there are levels. There are Nissan owners across the world who research and use the benefits of a rinsless wash ever though they are not a pro :)

You couldn’t of said it any better, i also have polishers that are many years old, and one of my sayings was now lets take a look at it out side. Stop shaving all that paint off.

Absolutely great info in every single one of your videos, sir. I have one thing that could you could change to make a better video. Change the area you film in. The left side of the video for some reason hurts my eyes.
@Detailers-Business-Academy4 жыл бұрын
We are working on that. You may not know this but we live in a tour bus. We are in the midst of building a new one. In the new one I will have a proper “set” to film in. That said you don’t have to watch ( I’m nothing to look at), simply listen.

I bet this post makes so many detailers feel good. And I bet that was your goal. Why don't you try to reinvent yourself to help the industry grow their skills rather than validate their lack of skill.
@Detailers-Business-Academy4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the feedback. I’ve been also teaching hands on skills for almost 3 decades. That said the skill most detailers require education on is how to improve as an entrepreneur. Knowing when to stop is as important as knowing how to make paint look perfect. Going for broke and making every car a masterpiece of polishing is easy, knowing how to give your customers value for their money while staying profitable is much harder.

Now new cars have the thinnest paint ever, and the softest clear coat.... its almost scary! Have to approach the job differently and with less agressive productsand techniques.. ..almost correct with finishers lol! like Yvan said, You take out too much, aint no returning business on that car for You!
@Detailers-Business-Academy4 жыл бұрын
Agreed, the paint is the most expensive“part” on the car. Manufacturers are constantly looking for ways to save money and weight, reducing the thickness of the paint is one of them. Thanks for watching and commenting.

I was using a reference to the metric system, in the USA they use the old imperial system ( except their military that uses the metric system) . There are only 3 countries that I know of that don’t use the metric system, USA, Myanmar (also known as Burma), and Liberia.

Well,finaly we are talking... I am so tired to explain this over and over again. This industry is so saturated with lies and marketing it is unbearable. This is bussines first,detailing second. Do your car,moms car a friends car...as a reference to your exelence. But,you only need one chemical to wash a car inside and out. You can dress a car inside and out with one chemical. Just use your brain and common sence. A car can benefit from a paint correction,once in its life time.
