Thanks for the great info, as always! Unlike some others (like one who just came up with his own line of products and is overly enthusiastic) you can see that you are not just trying to sell me something, but actually sharing in your expertise. I'm not a detailer, I'm just a guy trying to take care of his old cars and make them last in this Miami Sun (have a driveway but no garage, unfortunately). Sometimes I fantasize of becoming a detailer but that is mostly out of my reach I think. Anyway, questions: I recently bought a well priced combo of OPT ONR and a Big Red sponge. Can I use that for your polishing pad cleaning technique? I still have both sides of my good car to correct and polish and I think your advise will make my life a lot easier. So, it's the OPT ONR good for that? And, I planned to use the rinse-less to do many regular weekly maintenance washes. Should I just return it and go for a more modern rinseless like your own DIY? Let me know your thoughts. Again, a million thanks Yvan, you've got a follower for life.

It will work, but you will occasionally need to clean the pad with an APC

Hi Yvan, love your stuff brother. I used to do bodywork back in 1990. We used the wool pad with the 3m heavy duty compound to smooth out the lacquer clear, I'm sure you remember those days. The 2 part clear was just coming out, it had probably been out, but the shop owner was really cheap. Do you remember how we then removed the swirl marks with "ebony" with a very soft pad(don't remember the exact name?) We didn't have foam pads at the shop. Is ebony still being used? Or is that obsolete now? Thanks for your time and going down memory lane

Why did you wait all of this time for you to explain this to us. You where always saying DA is for cutting and even though you were demonstating with a 15mmDA. You never specified that it has to be 21mm or higher, why? Here we are.buying 8,9,12and 15mm DA and your not saying anything Ivan. Onto the topic of cleaning pads. What are the methods to clean wool ir Microfiber pads? Last you mentiined using Rinskess wash for cleaning foam pads and not to use Polymer based Rinseless wash. Yet you said a Hybrid is fine even though it does have Polymers in it like your DIY rinseless, which includes both 1st and 2nd iterations??
@Detailers-Business-Academy5 күн бұрын
I’ve never used a 15mm da, and I mention long stroke frequently going back many years. Wool and Microfibre pads are the same. What’s important is that the Rinseless wash has surfactants, and not only polymers.

I literally detailed a tractor here in Canada today, farm equipment is very lucrative for my business in winter. I used a rotary 2 step on the John Deere green, Gold standard polish both steps, but wool pad first speed 2, then foam pad speed 1. Ceramic gloss and one happy farmer. A sprayable polish is a must on tractors, and is a huge time-saver and money-maker. On cars I use a DA first then rotary but I'm old so this has been my system for a long time. On the enamel paint of farm equipment, rotary is really the way to go, a DA tends to spread oxidized paint and smear it rather than remove it. Great video, great debate either way. Merci Yvan

As a new detailer that is trying to go into business with his father, I of course have many questions. A couple of them are: Can I use a rinse less wash before a buff/polish? Should I still clay bar after the rinse less wash to prepare the paint for polishing? Does a rinse less wash strip the paint of waxes and other protectants to prepare the surface for buffing and polishing? Thank you for the video sir, great insight and info regarding this skill that I will definitely try doing this week.

Hey Yvan, thanks so much for all the info. Great stuff. Rinseless wash is something I’ve discovered after buying my new car and man, what a rabbit hole. Hundreds of dollars later and I have like 7-10 different brands of rinseless trying to find the best. Yours is my preferred in the bucket as it releases a lot of dirt from my wash media and microfibers. I let them sit in a bucket of DIY until my next wash load. So clutch. So great.

I've been rinseless in my business since 2009-10, and whenever the first sponge hit market (I can't remember when), I bought two for my mobile set up and never, not once, have I scratched any vehicle. I never buy regular soap for any reason, and of course I have settled on the DIY rinseless V2 as this I consider to be the benchmark for cleaning power and profitability. Here in Ontario, any pros still not using rinseless get in touch with TOC Supplies and they will answer any questions, and set you up. Soap is the rotary dial telephone of the detailing world

Ivan, everything you said is true, confirmed by years of experience and personal choice. I have already tested the big red sponge used with ONR and it really does hold a lot of dirty oils, and I have also tested the TRC black sponge used for several washes with DIY Rinseless wash and it shows the difference between polymer based and surfactant based rinseless wash, so I will continue to buy both, because both have great application and a pleasant washing experience for different situations, maybe different seasons. In the summer I choose DIY because it fights baked oily road film very well, and in the winter ONR because there are more small abrasives and particles on the panels and polymers do a better job than surfactants. There's a big difference in the bucket after washing between the two, if you know what I mean. I have also tried mixing both and it works well without leaving streaks on the surface

Thanks, I prefer a clean wash medium over a clean bucket.

Thnx for info, Ivan. Presently I use Optimum gold rinseless by first rinsing dirtiest areas with garden sprinkler to wash off anything big, then spraying panel thoroughly with the diluted rinseless, then gently drying the surface with plush microfiber towels. I'll try changing that by adding intermediate step of bucket and sponge before doing the drying. I don't know of Optimum gold has any surfactants in it but am exploring other brands (I use DIY Detail waterless wash for especially dirty areas).
