IMJOSHV - Car Detailing and Reconditioning Tips

25 күн бұрын

The hoses that come with most pressure washers aren't great. They are short, cumbersome, and kink easily. I always tell people "the first thing you should do when getting a pressure washer is upgrade the hose." Having a good hose will completely change your pressure washing experience. The added length and flexibility make it so much easier to work with. In today's video I highlight 2 hoses that are great and won't break the bank. One is ultra lightweight and flexible, and the other is steel braided for that extra industrial feel. No matter what pressure washer you are using, these hoses will make it feel like a completely different machine... ENJOY!!!

I feel like a ton of people get confused with the term "kink free" hoses. They think it means the hose will never curl or get tangled. All hoses including the uberflex can curl or get tangled. The term "kink" refers to the hose folding on itself and causing a crease that stays in the line forever which causes a weak point in the hose. I see all the time people saying "the uberflex sucks it still kinks" lol. It's not kinking, it's just curling or getting tangled. Buying swivels and QD attachments that rotate help with this issue. Thanks Josh for always making great content. Just wanted to rant and clarify that lol.

I bought the 60’ Adams hose based on Josh’s review. In fact, I bought the hose before I purchased the Active 2.0. I tested pressure and flow with a variety of nozzles. First I tested the Active 25’ hose, then the Adams 60’ hose, and finally I coupled them together for 85’. There was no appreciable difference between any of the lengths tested. Since my Active is shelf mounted in the back corner of my garage, that extra 10’ with the Adams hose sure is handy.

@@OldDetailer How heavy is that Adam’s steel hose? I have a 50 ft Dewalt that weights a ton, it’s steel and overkill for my Active 2.0. It’s never been used. I really liked the Uberflex for its weight.
@OldDetailer
@OldDetailer 25 күн бұрын
@@NO_OPEC_NO_PROBLEM Sorry, I don’t know the answer to your question, and I don’t have any easy way to weight it. I think if you sent an email to Adams they might be able to tell you. However, the real weight is when it is filled with water, and that is how mine is stored. I won’t drain it till there is a chance of freezing, which is almost never in my garage. This much I can tell you, I had a SunJoe with 50’ of their heavy duty hose. The Adams does not seem to be any heavier. Also, when I compare the Adams to the Active 25’ hose they seem to be about the same weight adjusting for the difference in length of course. Weight really isn’t much of an issue for me because in use it is on the ground, and in fact I store mine along the back wall of the garage. I’d like a Cox reel, but my space is a little tight and I just don’t want to spend that kind of money. My storage method is not great to look at but it sure works wonderful. I just have it laced back and forth along the back wall with the gun up on a hook. When I want it out on the driveway, I just grab the gun and pull it straight out, no kinks or coils, and it doesn’t fight me at all. And stored in two long lengths it doesn’t develop a memory!

My last pressure washer had a 50' steel braided and my new gas pressure washer that I have tailored and dialed in to wash cars with has an uberflex as per your recommendation for right about a year now. First thing I noticed is how lite it is! I don't have to walk the hose out every time I switch sides of the car I can grab it and just kind of whip it out and keep going. Makes things faster and easier. I have also used the uberflex with my washer cranked all the way up for household chores with no issue at all.

I have an Active 2.0 and run a 50' Uberflex. I've heard people talk the surging issue but have never experienced it. I run my water through an RV style inline carbon filter and a dual bed DI system. I wonder if the DI system or filter changes the flow or pressure in a way that mitigated the issue.... or i'm just lucky.

Heya. Im based in the UK, and have the AVA of Norway pressure washer and hose (well, one of their lineup). Its a great machine and the hose is fantastic in the summer. In the winter however, the material that the hose is made of stiffens up dramatically and it becomes a very difficult hose to handle, coiling and tangling with itself. In the summer, it lays flat for the most part. Just my view anyhow.

Thanks for the video. I have been meaning to get a steel braided hose for my Active, because I am getting the "surging" with the Uber-Flex hose. Particularly when the total stop engages. The machine continues to run, but at a noticeably different pitch, like it is working harder because it is pumping up the pressure into a wall.

You REALLY should use/learn the over/under wrap up method. It makes the hose never catch on itself when pulling it out and it's the only method I use since learning it. The bonus is it works the same on extension cords and ropes too. I have the Uberflex blue 50' hose on my main pressure washer but have recently bought a ROYBI 40V Battery powered pressure washer for mobile detail use, so I don't need a power generator. I think I might get that YAMATIC Steel Braided Hose for my main and use the Uberflex on the RYOBI.

Agreed. I bought the kit and I really wish they shipped with a 50' hose at least. I haven't felt the need to upgrade the gun to short one yet. The foam cannon was going to be my first upgrade, but I just can't deal with having to move the washer so often because of the short hose.

I am glad I am not the only one who doesn't understand why Uberflex doesn't work with Active 2.0. I have the Red Uberflex 50' hose with an Active 2.0 and the third time I used it the whole unit died, no power at all. Active said that using the Uberflex "technically voids the warranty" but would send me a micro switch as a goodwill geasture. None of their material, warranty information or videos states this, so I pushed back on this. After replacing the microswitch that Active sent me, the machine worked again, haven't used the Uberflex since, so that is money down the drain, and honestly wish I had just gone with another brand, I love what they are doing, but if you have accessories already, you risk them not being compatible with the machine, without adequate warning, and they threaten to yank their warranty...

Bepower sells a 25ft hose with quick connect in Home Depot Canada that looks exactly like the Yamatic. It is around 44$ US with the conversion. I've seen it in person and is very nice. The outer liner is written Continental. You can connect two together easily to make it 50 feet. Comes out more expensive than uberflex 50 feet, but it is more wear resistant than the uberflex, especially on asphalt.

May wanna mention the yamatic having a male 3/8 quick connect on one end to mate with 3/8 female that’s common on gas Pw’s but not on electric PW. Most of the QC kits for electric PW create 3/8” male on pressure washer output, so yamatic requires a separate adapter. Good thing is allows to use same hose on gas or electric afterward :)

I had a uberflex on a reel for storage and I found it developed a memory on it and anytime I took it out to use it rolling it out was annoying because it would want to loop. I upgraded to that yamatic and actually preferred it because of the weight I liked how it laid down when washing. I actually tried a kobrajet hose and it was super nice but I preferred the weight of the 1/4 yamatic I just wish it was smooth jacket that was nice

I also had trouble with the Uberflex/FlexZilla with the Active 2.0 Adam’s was out of stock so I bought a hose on Amazon saying it was flexible and the size I wanted. While it seems heavy it has worked well and the Active hose that came with the 2.0 definitely showed me that 25’ is not long enough. I spent as much time moving the washer as actually spraying the car. Also it should be noted that the Active hoses are 5/16” rather than the 1/4” that Josh uses. I don’t know if it makes any difference but that’s what I bought just to be careful of my ability to go back to Active with any problems.

Tried uberflex on my prosumer 2700 gas PW. With a steel hose, it’d hold my line pressure (about 2500psi) basically forever after releasing gun trigger. With the uberflex, it would drop the line pressure about 300-400 psi over course of first 5-10 seconds after releasing trigger, and then remain at the dropped pressure Depending on active’s sensitivity on their pressure switch, it’s possible that same drop occurring with uberflex is causing the PW to surge/pump to try increasing (but never achieve) pressure above the cutoff
