Yes the weathering has had mixed feedback, but I had to do it to sort out the paint that seemed the wrong colour

Great job on this engine.. Your blackening technique is very effective, scary too, but i think I want to try it. Also enjoyed the "supervisors" visit.😊 keep the videos coming! From Bob in smokey LA.

very nice build, I will give it a try, at the moment sourcing all the materials. Being on the Westcoast of Canada that will take a few months. But you made it look almost too easy but it is a great project. No idea if I will be able to run it or not. Maybe paint it for the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (they did have a Garratt). Cheers, looking forward to next Friday!

That looks great. My grandson (12) has been enjoying looking back at some of your videos. He finds inspiration by watching them for the OO9 layout he's building. He's just been building his first OO9 steam tram. Again, inspired by watching your builds, and he has really enjoyed it. Hopefully, he will be posting an update video Episode 8 on his Dylington Model Railway channel in the near future ... Cheers, James 🙂👍

That Garratt is great. I too am dubious about the pony trucks. I will probably build one at some point. My “freelance” narrow gauge line has quite a large loading gauge and is designed with larger radii but even on that I think this will look ridiculous large. Definitely won’t fit in the end of my runaround loop. But hey, it’s a Garratt.

Looking good, I have quite a few pictures of the cabs of NG130, 87 and NG143 which you might find useful for detailing the cab. However I don't like the weathering to be honest. We keep the Garratts very clean, I have personally spent a full day cleaning one of the WHR NG/G16s

Yes I’ve had that a lot, but after I wasn’t happy with the body colour, I decided to make it look more worked than preserved

I certainly enjoyed watching the build through to the end. It’s always helpful to see exactly how you do the back wash. Though personally I think it has been overdone it in this case. I hope you don’t mind me saying that. As for a display layout of the Aberglaslyn pass. I wonder if a Mosslanda shelf would work? A cliff face, track bed and steep slope down to the river wouldn’t take up much depth at all.
@GWilliamsonModels

Yes you’re not alone in thinking that, but I ended up going for a worked non preserved engine by the end, as I wasn’t happy with the body colour!

I meant to add that I use glue’n’glaze to do the locos cab windows when I’ve done kits. Doesn’t look too bad but I find it seems to stays a bit tacky.

And much better than the likes of a superglue that can give a nasty smear

That’s the rumour I’ve heard mate, so it may appear at some point. Yes I’m gutted, it was a great show. I’m struggling to find many shows to take it to this year, I wanted some narrow gauge only events as well as a mix

The model looks stunning, George 👍. With fixing the coal load in place, Deluxe Materials Ballast Bond might have been better than the superglue.

Looks great George. I've always opted out of heavy weathering for fear of messing up but I agree. The satin varnish and weathering/shading stages bring it all together. I do satin varnish my models, just need to be brave and try weathering. Really looking forward to receiving mine and having a go! Regarding shows -Narrow Gauge Now, 009 Society East Midlands near Mansfield, in October is very good. Cheers.

Someone mentioned the weathering was too heavy, and it was never the plan, but I wasnt happy with the colouring so changed it up a bit. Funnily enough, I contacted NOW this week, so hopefully that’ll come to fruit

The real thing, to be found on the Welsh Highland Railway, looks immaculate in everyday use. Weathering of this lovely model needs to be confined to slight grot on the running gear, and that's it.

@ yes I’m aware, but it’s not an exact representation of this loco on the WHR, hence why details are different. It’s essentially a freelance based on 130. I decided to alter it to look in worked condition as I didn’t like the colouring from Humbrol 20
@peterharris4215
@peterharris4215 17 сағат бұрын
@@tacfoley4443 Yes the Garratts, and the rest of the fleet at the F&WHR are beautifully maintained. When it comes to modeling though I feel there's space for us all to model how we want to and all have merit. Do you have any pictures you can share of yours to see a pristine version?

George, I normally like the effect of the black wash, but I think it's over done this time. Considering it's a model of a heritage railway loco, it ought to be a bit cleaner/shinier. As it is it would look good as a loco in former regular service. Cheers.

How much did it cost to build one. As I can already see in my head it would set me back with needed two Grahamfarish 08. And where can you get the body from again
@GWilliamsonModels
@GWilliamsonModels 22 сағат бұрын
@Steamshield the link for the body is in the description. It’s £80. And you need the two 08’s. I’ve recently seen them for sale at £70, so you’re looking around 200-250 with extras
