I've owned 12 of those and I'll still take another one right now in 2021. Those are the easiest to work on, most dependable cars. The paint jobs are the only weak thing on these cars. American cars don't even compare.

Owned a 97 Accord and currently have a 99 Accord same EX trim as this one here. 304K on the clock and she's still going! Paint is pretty similar to this on my Roof, Trunk and Hood. (Shes also got a few different colored panels due to some accident repairs) All in all you made it look quite a bit nicer considering what you had to work with. These old 90s Hondas always get Orange peel, but they'll run a damn long time!

Definitely much better but still a mess. I had a clearcoat issue on my 02 Honda Accord V6 just on the trunk, and I did what you did except I actually applied a coat of matching paint and then sprayed clearcoat. It looks better but still showing the outlines of the peel. Good job though.

It was interesting to see how you handled the issue of the paint, I had a Honda Civic that had the same type of awful paint, mostly on the trunk and Hood lid, I ended up just having somebody respray them, it was not a perfect match of color but I could not get a good-looking product out of trying to buff away the peeling clear coat
@DmDetails3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I was sort of experimenting with it to see what these cheap options would look like. Considering the whole car costs $240, it simply didn’t make sense to spend hundreds repainting panels. The rattle can method came out pretty good. Thanks for watching!!
@geraldpond168 Жыл бұрын
I never knew this was possible to save peeled away clear coat let alone make the paint underneath shine ! Though you may eventually want to re clear coat it with professional grade clear coating and then heat treat it since that paint is exposed to wearing away down to the primer. The one from the store will work until you can get that done unfortunately it won’t last forever. About 5 years or so, I know because my 93 f250s paint is wearing away slowly despite it was repainted and clear coated with spray paint. Looks good until a more permanent repair can be done 😊

I have that exact same car, with nearly the same pattern of clear coat failure. Initially several years ago, I rattle can painted the trunk,hood,and roof. The color green was too light, didn't match, looked ok but dull . Today I stripped off that paint coat on the back lip of the trunk by the tail lights because it had partially peeled up.. The original dark green underneath looked better than my previous painting efforts, so I cleaned and waxed it...don't know what to do with the rest of it. My front hood also has these strange small cracks through the pain, It will not clean off so well.. Good video!

Anyone watching this with the same problem with paint. Pick a color made by rustoleum 2X in a can or Turbo Cans. Just paint the entire car a different color and call it a day. the worst part is sanding it down completely and finding a place to paint out of the sun and without any wind. Less than $100 spend for cans of paint and you can paint the whole car at home if you don't have neighbors directly next to you. Colors are not the best option but the price and finished product is.
