I have been following this story since it unfolded from the very beginning. I’m in my late forties, and a working professional from the Boston area. I don’t have kids, and this is the hardest thing for me to understand and make sense of it all. My heart goes out to the parents - single parents, dual parents that brought their children to school to drop them off for classes. I see the images as those young and innocent children cut down by a mad man, with yet another senseless tale of unnecessary violence & gunfire with automatic weapons. When is this going to end? Forget about whose to blame on the scene. From the police officers that immediately went into the building who the public finds out later was fabricated and not true, to the officer that is guarding both the main entrance of the school and walkway is now a ghost. While finger pointing continues, a quiet community is rocked and shaken by this senseless tragedy. When does this end. We as a society have a serious epidemic of senseless violence in America with these long barrel automatic weapons getting into the hands of minors, young teenagers, and those with mental health issues, and criminal records. President Biden, get off your ass and finally do something that no President has done before and end this madness. We need to end this by having Congress exact strict measures and laws implementing the banning of minors, teens, criminals from getting their hands on military assault weapons. There is absolutely no need for this. I don’t have to be a parent to be emotional and know that something needs to be done now. Stop finger pointing and blaming when the real problem is right in front of us all and needs to be addressed and finally stopped. End this epidemic now by stopping the root of the source. Even now as I rant, and venting my frustrations, another senseless act of violence just happened in Philadelphia where multiple gunmen opened fire into crowds of innocent citizens for no reason only to inflict mass casualties, violence, and chaos. We need to push our local selectmen, Mayors, Governors, Senators, and Congressmen and women across the United States to get involved now. President Biden & his Administration along with Congress and the House, all need to start communicating and finally working together to stop this unnecessary violence to finally stop be banning all military long barrel weapons from all, including minors, teenagers, those with criminal records. Our Government needs to make these laws priority to make it virtually impossible for civilians to purchase these weapons and any other handguns over the internet, gun shows, and on the street. We need to do our part now and make a difference do we can finally put a stop to this madness and end this once and for all so that innocent children and all citizens across the United States can feel safe and inclusive.
@rrmackay2 жыл бұрын
First of all there were no automatic weapons involved. Second there were no military assault weapons involved. Have you stopped to ask if the shooter was on mental health medication, was he being treated for ADHD, depression or psychotic behavior and if so what drugs was he on and where is his therapist ? Drugs like Xanas and Ritlin have proven suicidal and murderous ideation side effects proven in court in liability cases. You ask what has changed to make this happen: we drugged an entire generation with drugs that most of Europe has ruled are destructive and illegal to give to children under 18. You talk about the root cause but you aren't looking for the root cause, you're looking for an easy answer.
@eddiediaz92672 жыл бұрын
Before you ask yourself why, ask your self “Who gave him all that money, Resources to commence an attack on children” then you wonder who profits from taking Your assault weapons off the street, the government wins here… no weapons means more power and control of its citizens, if I lived there and was hearing gun shots and I had a m16 fully loaded bet your ass I’d fully load myself to fire back, or is running and hiding the American thing now?
@billsmith7782 жыл бұрын
Guess what moron, military wepaons, including long barrel guns are already pretty much banned for the gen pop without a special license and mountains of red tape. You clearly don't know your ass from a hole in the ground but you're going to come here a spew a lot of crap that you clearly know absolutely nothing about. Let me clue you in, idiot, an AR is NOT a military weapon and is not used by any military in the world. An AR is an Armor-Lite Rifle that has been in use by civilians since the very early 60s. The AR is typically chambered to either a .223 or a 5.56 which are the same ammo with the 5.56 having a little more pressure. It is no more dangerous than a .223 semi auto wood stock rifle that many use to hunt small game. In fact the .223 is banned for hunting deer in 7 states bc it is considered not powerful enough to bring down bigger game. It shoots at the same speed as a regular semi auto .223 wood stock rifle with the only two real differences is the fact that the .223 hunting rifle is more accurate and the AR LOOKS scary to wimps who are completely clueless but is no more dangerous than the .223 and the fact remains that a .45 semi auto handgun, and any number of other handguns and rifles are far more dangerous and deadly than the AR, but I guess we can't expect chicken 💩 pansies who don't know squat besides oh I'm scared of the big bad rifle bc it looks mean, to know that.

@yuewenb2 жыл бұрын
Matthew I totally agree with you. I see this as a multi faceted problem besides the officers waiting and a teacher propping open the door so the shooter could just walk in. Concerning the Uvalde massacre of precious children in Texas. This is becoming more frequent. I see many becoming mad, sad or Politicians trying to take advantage or the situation, but very few good idea's being talked about or implemented. Here is my two cents. First off I believe strongly about the 2nd Admendment and no one is taking my gun in a society where they are defunding the Police and taking gang units out by the defunding who were getting guns off the street, zero bail, Soros funded DA's letting out criminals early, not charging them for many of their crimes, and changing laws like theft to $950 before it's a crime to detour. How is this working out? Plus we had lock downs and job losses because of covid and before that riots that burned down businesses, creating more homeless, money problems and mental health problems and more. BUT we need to do something to protect our precious innocent children. When I was young this type of thing was rare. Why? Less population was one and open borders do not help. Also we did not have radicals on the internet trying to radicalize our children then. This needs to be monitored and safeguards by the parents at a minimum or State. If the parents or those in charge see worrisome behavior the parents need to act on it, and not just think their child is that innocent 8 year old they used to have. This is really caring for the child and society. So hold the parents responsible if they can prove the Parent knew and did nothing with a fine and or misdemeanor. We also did not have China giving us a virus and the Government and rich taking advantage of the situation at our expense. Also have you noticed that many of the school shootings were done by like 18 to 20 year olds? Make it illegal to own guns if under 21 unless you are in the Military which is under guidance and discipline. How about 2 armed guards at schools with a metal detector and one entrance? Many are complaining about Texas gun laws, but from my studies, most of the States with the most liberal gun laws have the lowest crimes from guns. And when crime is up over 50% in many Democrat run cities, I will not give up my guns to defend myself, loved ones and the innocent. If one has been convicted of a violent crime whether 16 or 60, make it illegal for them to own a gun. At least they are giving serial numbers now to ghost guns which can be traced, or give them 90 days to register or a fine and if used in a crime without being registered triple the fine and add a misdemeanor. Find ways to make it harder for criminals, young gang members and mentally ill to get guns. If school teachers want to take the training, let them carry and protect. To me these seem practical and not emotional. I came up with several others, but many have brought them up before by others. Just my 2 cents.

@Pump wow, well gov Abbott is not releasing or requesting for the release of those funds. In TX , for kids to get counseling at school their mental health needs to directly and negatively impact their education. The counseling from school counselors only pertains to education. Teachers/school professionals in TX can’t recommend private counseling services to parents because of a loophole that if the school recommends a service that is not provided by the school that is needed by a student, the school district has to pay for the service. If the parents asks about private services, the school will provide lists because then they are NOT required to pay for the services when the parent initiates the topic -but many parents can’t afford, the money or time necessary because they’re usually a mess in need of major help too) If anyone in the school suggests private services in Texas, by law, they have to pay…it’s a huge no no. You can get fired. On that note, I’d love to also see Abbott and Cruz increase the funds for CPS as well. Foster parents are not well vettet and there aren’t enough case workers to make sure that foster parents are not abusing vulnerable children. These a hole foster parents don’t even go to jail, they just get another kid to mess up. make sure there are enough case workers and we’ll vetted superiors that are paid well enough not to take bribes from p€do rings and that their caseloads are manageable. He was a product of his environment. People saw the signs and neglected them. Family, school employees, and even police witnessed the potential danger, ever since he was a CHILD. There is no excuse for this level of neglect, they allowed him to become what he was. They allowed him to grow into something wicked, cruel, and uncaring. They are just as much to blame as he is for the loss of those innocent children. There are so many questions, and everyone is asking all of the wrongs ones. - It doesn't matter the degree of gun laws and how difficult we make it to get guns because if he really wanted to get a gun he would have gotten it illegally that much is certain considering the level of his intent. And even if it wasn't a gun it could have been a homemade bomb, or something else that could harm people because in the end he just wanted to cause harm if his actions weren't loud enough. - And it also didn't matter if we had the right to bare arms anyway, because the people who are authorized to legally didn't do anything to save those children anyway. And now those kids are gone and the potential protectors who were supposed to be baring arms didn't do it in time. So for those of you actually arguing gun politics, whether to keep guns, or get rid of them it doesn't make a difference because those kids are gone. Someone who shouldn't have had a gun took one and killed innocents. And the people who should have had them, were too late to act anyway so all of your arguments are invalid and pointless. Important questions: How did he just get into the school? Where was security? Why did it take so long for a response? Why were the doors unlocked? Why were they unguarded? How did we not learn from the previous shootings that a box full of kids is the easiest target for snapped people like him? Children should be protected, and as a society we failed to do that. Those kids are all gone because of how poorly they were protected, and a monster was created... because of how poorly he was protected as child. The cycle continues.

Fact: strict gun laws DO work and DO save lives. The stricter the gun laws in any country, the less violence and crime and the safer country's citizens, including children. Today, I woke up. But, in my hometown, there are 19 children and two adults who didn’t, and there are countless families and community members who probably didn’t get a wink of sleep last night. For me, the tragedy in Uvalde is something that I can take a pause from. It hits my heart because I, too, was a Uvalde Coyote who walked the halls and breezeways of Robb Elementary. I remember walking to and from Robb with my brother. I remember my dad walking me to school. The only thing I had to fear were the neighborhood dogs that barked through the fence at us while we passed. I can take a break from the tragedy. I came to work today, am giving final exams to my students, and will talk with the others about how much we will miss each other over summer break. Here, I will only think about the tragedy in moments in between the hustle and bustle of the last days of the school year, on my conference period, and on my lunch break. Then, I get to take another break from the tragedy as another group of students comes into my classroom. I will think about it again on my drive home, when I watch the news, and when my wife and I talk about the people we knew whose lives were forever changed by the tragedy. Then I get to take another break and fall asleep to rest. But, for the people back home, there is no break. No pause. No rest. This tragedy is something they will live in for the rest of their lives. I remember being 22 years old and hearing about the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, Connecticut and being shocked, angry, and heartbroken for the students and their families. They were just kids. 20 innocent children and six school personnel shot for seemingly no reason at all. I remember the next evening when Saturday Night Live paid tribute to those lost with a small choir of children singing “Silent Night” and the lyrics “sleep in heavenly peace” piercing my heart. I remember the footage of children walking out of the school holding hands and parents sobbing uncontrollably. I later remember the footage of the school being demolished so as to bury signify the burying of the tragedy. In those moments, I knew that I could never feel what those people felt because that kind of thing could never happen to me. I would never know the heartbreak of losing a child or the shock of knowing that this happened in my small community because this type of thing happens in other places, not at home. At 1:51 PM, my wife texted me. “There was an active shooter at Robb in Uvalde.” I didn’t believe her, so I checked the internet, and there in front of my eyes was confirmation. Communications from the district requested that parents not go to the school to pick up their children and later informed the community that the local civic center would serve as the reunification site for families. I quickly began exchanging texts and calls with family members and friends. “What do you know?” “How many?” My sister, an EMT, worked the scene. My sister-in-law, a State Trooper with the Department of Public Safety worked the scene. My cousin, a reserve sheriff’s deputy in a neighboring county worked the scene and helped clear the local junior high due to rumors of another incident. When news stations arrived on scene, I saw community members I knew on the phone outside of the school. Their faces said it all: “Where’s my baby?” Later, it would be learned that their babies were gone - “flying high with the angels” as one parent put it. As I sit here writing this, my students are looking at their tests, and I can’t help but imagine them at 9 and 10 years old. What did they look like? What color was their backpack? Who dropped them off at school? And, as I think this, the news reports that, last night, parents in Uvalde took belongings to the local civic center, the unification site turned notification site, to provide DNA samples to law enforcement agents because their little children could not be recognized. They took hairbrushes and toothbrushes to try and see if their missing children were among the lost. I can’t help but think that every one of those parents, if given the chance to see the lost, would have instantly recognized their precious babies. The berets in their hair, the shirts they wore, their shoes. They would know. But they provided the samples, and, slowly, were notified that their missing children were the ones lost. They and their family members released the heartbreaking news on their social media accounts. Pictures of their babies circulated. Kids. Just kids. With backpacks, eye black for softball, new haircuts, basketball jerseys, awards certificates from school. Kids. So now, as I sit here looking at my students, imagining the things that they carried to school when they were in the 4th grade, parents in my hometown will be given back lunchboxes and backpacks that their children once carried. Items they bought for their kids and packed for them. They will squeeze these items as tight as they can as they sob until their eyes hurt and until there are no more tears, and then they will sob some more, wishing with everything in them that the items they were holding could be their little ones, instead. These families will plan funerals to celebrate the precious lives lost, and they will forever be scarred by the moment that their own lives were suddenly ripped open and turned inside out. The people in Uvalde can’t take a break from this tragedy. The parents I saw on the news and in pictures - the ones I recognized and the ones I didn’t - can’t and will never be able to. But I can, and, deep inside of me, that hurts. Even after I go back to Uvalde to visit and mourn with the community, I will be able to take a break from the tragedy. But they can’t. While I work, they will remember and cry. While I sleep, they will be awake sitting in the bedrooms and laying on the beds of the children they lost and remembering the last time they woke them up for school knowing that they won’t ever get that moment again and waiting for the day where they lay their babies to rest. This time, forever. With everything in me, I hope that, when they finally can sleep, these children find their way into their families’ dreams to offer comfort. And in those moments, while they again hold hands with their little ones, or are transported to a baseball field they once watched their children play on, I hope that they, too, may sleep in heavenly peace.

How about passing stricter gun laws ? Nah you don't want that. Keep enabling the gutless politicians like Abbott to make sure that will never happen. See you back here after the next massacre spouting self-serving platitudes as if you actually give a damn. The hypocrisy is nauseating 🤢

I’ve said it a thousand times and I’ll say it again. The more dangerous the weapon, the more mental health screenings should be required to make the purchase.

They only need one background check. The feds just need to make sure they run the background check correctly.

Again, how did the kid who worked at a fast food restaurant save up enough money to buy two ARs, high end scope, body armor, ammo, and a newer truck? All right before the shooting? No dad, a drug addict mom, and living with his grandma?

If, as his grandfather says, he was a felon and shouldn't be able to buy guns, why did they keep saying he bought the guns legally? Something's wrong here.

Grandfather was a felon, 18 year old had a clean record. But someone messed up because it should have been flagged that he was living with a felon...unless he putdown another address.

I think the grandfather was saying the he..himself.. is a felon. The grandfather cannot have guns in the home or it may violate him and send him back to jail.
@gunmetalgrey5412 жыл бұрын
The grandfather was the felon and not allowed to have firearms on the premises. He was saying that had he known his grandson had weapons in the house, he would have turned him in to avoid violations of his parole. What I am wondering is, if the suspect couldn't drive, who drove him to purchase the weapons? Somebody had to know he had them. A horrific loss of innocent and defenseless children.
