I DID IT! I used sunflowers, twin sunflowers, tall nuts, pumpkins, imitators, spikeweeds, spikerocks, and I also used flower pots on my tall nuts for a little bit of extra health, as well as puff shrooms (unwakened) to soak up some early damage. I got really lucky and didn't have to deal with any Jack in the boxes, and I was able to kill the gargantuars with my lawnmowers.

I think something you could've tried was focusing heavily on the front and back spikes before the middle ones. if you have full spike rock at the front you can chip in some damage early on and you wouldn't worry about the wall nuts before they got to the back in the early flags. as for the gargantuar, I think it's just luck

Maybe you could use freeze shroom (I think that's the name I'm not too sure) or you could put a spikeweed under it while it is attacking a spikerock. That way it can damage it without getting instantly smashed. But you would probably still have to get lucky. I don't know why he didn't use pumpkin. It would give him even more time as you can place it on spikeweed.

Honestly, Spikeweed (and Rock) should have the mechanism where they damage can negate the effect of helmets, in exchange for much higher sun price (250 for Spikeweed, 150 for Spikerock) and significantly slower reload time. Spikerock can damage Gargantuars while Gargantuars are crushing it while dealing increased damage to enemies. That will make spike plants more unique and fun to use

It is possible on night hard survival, I've done this before. However it requires you to realize that sunflowers are actually inferior to sun shrooms so long as you spend the same amount of sun on shrooms. Yes I used the mimic plant as a second sun shroom to avoid cool down being a issue. Other trick I forgot to mention is after the first column by your defensive plants of spike rocks plant all spike rocks as far forward as possible same with the spikeweed after one row at the back all should be planted from the front lawn back so as to kill the jack in the box and other problematic zombies fastest. You seem to have realized this later in the run though.

I did it! As I said on a previous comment. My setup is not very good, so I didn't record it, but I took pictures. Blover took care of Balloon zombies. I got lucky with Gargantuars and they only appeared in the last wave, and only on three lanes. Jack-in-the-box didn't appear, so I'm still curious if I could have handled it. The biggest challenge was updating Spikeweed to Spikerock because of cooldown time. I used a column of Twin sunflowers to have enough sun. Magnet shroom was good to deal especially with Pogo zombie and Ladder zombie. I focused on putting two columns of spikerock at the beginning of the lanes and one in the end to deal with the Miner. In the end, I lost 3 Lawn Mowers because of the Gargantuars. I don't know if it can be beaten with only Spikerocks, even a whole lane.

You NEED to save your sun and upgrade to spikerocks as soon as possible instead of rushing full rows if spikeweeds. Ive done this as a kid for fun a lot, im not sure if I ever beat survival specifically but it’s certainly not a weak strategy. Edit: Also out your spikerocks in the front at the beginning if possible to deal with things like the jack in the box zombies. Man... I remember this plant being way stronger as a kid. Maybe I just liked it and so I used it a lot.

So, small changes to your defense that would help, first of all, from my testing 2 spikeplants can reliably kill a zombie, but only if they arent right next to eachother, so use that to your advantage towards the start, also, put spikerocks at the start of the path to deal with the jack in the boxes ultimately though, i think the biggest help would be having two rows of wallnuts

Your goal should be to keep the zombies on the field as long as possible. Maybe the math works out that a straight line of spikes are higher damage. And it doesn't solve the gargantaur problem. But it might make it easier.

I love the spikes! It's my favorite attack plant, i think I tried this sometime, the good thing about this plant is that you don't need distance from the zombie to make as much damage as possible (like projectiles) place them at the front row first, then work your way back, also its super important to alternate between two spikes, walnut, two spikes, walnut and so on, worked best for me back in the day but never tried it on hard tho, I'd love to see a rematch!

PVZ veteran here, I think this is possible on the normal survival mode, but this also could work on hard. I gave this a go myself and was pretty close to winning. Here the strat I went with: Plants used: Spikeweed Spikerock Sunflower Coffee Bean Magnet-Shroom Tall-Nut Wall-Nut Pumpkin And Garlic ( VERY IMPORTANT ) The garlic can be used at the start in order to divert the zombies to the lane with the most defense. You can use that time to secure the other lanes with spikeweeds and tallnuts. You plant sunflowers at the row furthest to the left, then magnet shrooms in front of the sunflowers. Tall-nuts and the other defensive plants go in front of the magnet shrooms, and the rest is spikeweeds. If you see any of these zombies, restart immediately: Pole-Vaulter ( They can't vault over tall-nuts, so when they attempt to they just stand there and chew at your tall nuts. They're glitched out of the spikeweed's range and can't be damaged. ) Gargantuar ( Obvious reasons ) I hope this helps in some way, it was really fun to strategize this!

This would probably work with Garlic to funnel zombies into specifically where you want them to die. Basically you plant double Garlic in the top, middle, and bottom rows which funnels all zombies into the one-from-top and one-from-bottom row. Spikerock those two up. Frees up a ton of space in the top, middle, and bottom rows for Sun Flowers, Magnet Shrooms, Ice Shrooms, and other supports. You'd need Blovers for Balloon Zombies and for Gargantaurs to not show up at all (SpikeRocks cannot kill them, just delay them) or for your mowers to be able to handle the Gargantaurs. Should work otherwise I think. This is basically the strat I use except with some Gloom Shrooms and Winter Melons for extra damage but even that's just supplemental. You'd need to have double Pumpkins, Tall Nuts, and Wall Nuts in tray for later waves without the extra DPS

Those Gargantuars were indeed brutal. I don't know how you could deal enough damage to them. I think for the rest and to limit the damage of jack in a box zombies, you could make some tall nut barriers (2 or 3) along the lawn and put spikerock at the beginning, so they have less time to explode. Also, I'd use twin sunflower. I'm going to try thus challenge now to test my idea. Twin sunflower for sun. Wallnut and tall nut for defenses. Turning spikeweed into spikerock as fast as possible, especially at the beginning. Blover to deal with balloon zombies. Maybe magnet shrooms.

Ok, so couple thoughts: firstly, have you tried building the upgraded spike rocks from the other side first? The Jack-in-the-box zoms we’re getting past the unupgraded ones as they weren’t dealing enough damage, upgraded spike rocks should take them out quicker and not give them a chance to explode. Second: (this one is a work in progress theory), alternate columns of spike rocks with columns of tall-nuts to trap the zoms in place longer and take extra damage, similarly to your “keep 1 alive” challenge, only this time with a spike rock attacking it aswell. Won’t help against gigantuars but might help with stuff before they show up.

some years ago I compleated this challenge (iirc) you need to put garlic in the first, third and fith lane in the second and third collum (from the righthand side). A trick I can see working with this is using the pumpkings on top of the spike plants to intentionally stall. By that I mean, normal zombies will be forced to stay and eat it which will trigger the spikes while they are eating, polevaulting zombies are forced to walk when placed near spawn, and pogos are also slowed down since stay in place before jumping over them. As for the magnets, you only need them for certain waves and really not that many needs to be kept around. ANother point to the pumpkings, it would allow you to control when Jack-in-a-box Zombies blow up.

If you can stall the Gargantuars long enough, you might be able to survive a couple of flags worth of them. Freeze Shrooms, puff shrooms, imitator puff shrooms, flower pots + The Nuts and the spikes would be my lineup. Try to survive the level and see what happens in the next one. I tried. The rocks didn't kill any Gargantuar, but several omps were thrown. I held them as flags 7 and 8 came, and since there were no Gargantuars in the last waves, I simply let them destroy the rest and eat up the lawn mowners while I was planting spikes behind them. Worked like a charm.

Spikes are my favorite plant, so I couldn't resist this challenge. And I did it! Sort of... By some weird luck, gargantuars didn't spawn for me. But! I had all mowers intact, so I should have been able to win even if they did. I'd just need all the gargantuars of the level to be on screen at once, and all the mowers could take them out at once! Here's my strategy I used: - The hardest part is getting your foot in the door. You need to complete the first wave without losing any mowers except possibly the top row (as gargantuars don't spawn on the top row, ever.) - Speaking of the top row, that's where I put my sunnies. Early sun is very important! I had 5 double sunnies back towards the house. VITAL to my strategy was that in front of that I had garlic, magnet, and then another garlic (with the last slot towards the road filled with 1 spike.) The frontmost garlic directed zombies away from my sunnies, the magnet helped catch dangerous items early, and the second garlic was most important. Multiple times digger and pogo zombies got past my first garlic, and they would have devoured all my sunnies if not for the backup garlic. - Middle two rows had (from street to house) 3 spikes, followed by a tallnut, followed by two magnets, followed by emergency garlic, then spikes, then emergency tallnut. This was in case a digger snuck in, but in my run nothing actually got past my tallnuts in the middle rows. - The other two rows (second down and last down) were standard. Spikes with a tallnut at the end. Important tips: - A roof pot can give your nut defenses a little extra HP - To save my lawnmowers, I stalled in round 1 using the 0 cost mushroom (still asleep) and an imitation of it to stall as much as possible. - When my magnets were ovewhelmed, I dug them up and replanted. This is faster than letting them regenerate naturally, and saved my bacon with the jack in the boxes. - I had surplus sun in later rounds so I started throwing pumpkins on absolutely everything, even my spikes. - Watch your garlic! Forget to bring it to a round and that's it, game over. Garlic has low HP and can be stressful to micro manage, so I would periodically toss a pumpkin on that too just so I wouldn't have to replace it as often. The single spike in front of it killed quite a few zombies. - And speaking of garlic, the "Blegh!" animation keeps zombies on the spikes and getting hit for vital seconds. While the gargantuars never showed up for me, I should have been able to win regardless. With every mower intact, I would hopefully been able to delay long enough to take them out in one wave of mowers.

Quick Answer: 100% No. Long (ish) Answer: Chompers eat too slowly to be useful. Even with a whole field of chompers. You will die to the Zombie Density and if you survive, the Gargantuars.

You could definitely do it as long as you allow for other support, just setting up with sunflowers should give you enough sun for all the chompers in the world, and you can just stall gargs with maybe puff shrooms and sunflowers or something The only real threats are balloon zombies(which are a threat to most solo plant run really) And diggers(which can easily be dealt as long as they don't come in massive numbers) It would likely be difficult but it's not really impossible

As the challenge said only chompers (and I assume sunflowers) I would think stuff like instas and puff-shrooms are banned. Meaning you would most likely die to the massive horde and run out of sun

I remember trying this once. Didn't end well. Probably because I tried it on The Last Stand and forgot they can't go on Lilypads, but that's what I get for taking the fool's way and start with that much sun.

Chalenge idea: Beat survival night but if the zombies eat your plant plant a new one instead.

I was able to do it with two columns of twin sun plants, tallnuts, pumpkins, and spikerocks all the way. 6 spikerocks for each rows. What I did was place pumpkins with imitators to help on spaces with spikerocks on each row to slow down the zombies, letting the spikerocks have more time. Did have to use blover when the balloon zombies came about. I did get lucky through... no jack zombies, gargantuar, or diggers. So ideally row would be (twin, twin, tallnut with pumpkin, spikerock with pumpkin, spikerock with pumpkin, spikerock with pumpkin, spikerock with pumpkin, spikerock with pumpkin, and then spikerock) but I wasn't able to get enough pumpkins out there. I normally lost one before I could get another out there. The six spikerocks was able to handle the ladder zombies and pogo zombies. So while rare, it IS possible. Detara just had some bad luck that day. If you come back to it Detara, I wish you luck. :-)

Yooo i did this some time ago. I used garlic laning, 2 spikeweed kills a basic zombie iirc 5 kill a conehead and you need a wallnut to take down football zombies or bucket head zombies the jack in a box are a real pain tho but if you lane them with garlic but yeah gargantuars are awfull for this. I was about to say maybe you could try it on Night, too (obviously Pool, Fog, and Roof are impossible because they can’t be planted on Lilypads or Flower Pots) but considering on Hard it’s basically the same just with no free sun and graves, that’s probably impossible, too

If you wanted to do this, use garlics so zombies can align themselves into a single row or maybe two rows if your feelin like it. Next you can focus on those rows while building up sun and placing spike weeds/rocks in the back. It lets you actually get sun too!

*This challenge is quite easy,* as long as non-attack plants are allowed. I used sunflowers early game and sacrificed lawnmowers to take care of early attackers while still collecting sun. There is no reason to forbid support plants, as long as it does not directly attack invaders. I then used wallnuts and spikes to fend off early-mid attackers. Then by upgrading to twin sunflowers, using pumpkins to add nut HP, & then upgrading to tallnuts, I had more than enough sun to safely add a deadly dose of "background radiation" from spikeage, while replacing damaged plants. Later-game, blover is key.
