To think that this was published in 1949, the story still seemed very current. Its brilliantly detailed with gory murders, twisted mind of a killer, intramural politics of Miami PD and traumatic childhood of the main character. It keeps the readers riveted with ample musings of the death penalty, Catholicism and the grand jury system. Altho the movie is watered down and seems farcical & ridiculous at times. Arthur Hailey was the king of thrillers in the 70s with bestsellers like Hotel and Airport. Still love all of his books.

There's a lot to admire in this well-constructed movie; what I find most to like is the judge saying she won't approve a warrant without relevant evidence and the director of a shelter saying you can't look at a resident's locker without a court order. Neither of these constraints on the police was presented as some sort of liberal soft-on-crime permissiveness, but as a realistic defense of civil right.

The story was gripping and realistic indeed as to what I think Police had to do to trace down a serial killer. All actors and actresses did very well in portraying their characters. My only gripe is the ending part seems a bit lame where a determined ex-lady cop who could shoot accurately but could not kill the ex-priest turned cop with one shot and then to make it harder to believe is for a truly frightened lady to stab and kill the ex-lover from what I see. Overall this movie portrays our human situation well.

@pjlewisful

It's a terrible, misleading name. "Defunding" should be "reallocating" as it means (Instead of paying cops to do the vitally important job of shrink that they don't have the education, background, or training in, use the funds to pay shrinks to handle mental illness cases.) Cops hate going on those calls for a good reason, anyway.

That's right. It only really means sending behavioral health techs on mental health crisis calls instead of police officers who are prepared for legal matters, criminal activity, safety, but not trained in psychiatry or psychology. It's best not to draw on the same skills as for a perpetrator, & when it's someone in panic the appearance of a gun & badge might escalate things, & it wastes police time. They may know from personal life how to help someone with a mental health episode but they're untrained, on the just b bc it's really a medical matter not a criminal one. So it would take the money spent on police response to THAT & pay for crisis responders instead, who are trained in helping de-escalate, who can understand what is going to help & what will increase the issue. & People mid episode cannot always understand and follow instructions and that, plus even one officer who expects immediate compliance to an order or thinks it's defiance instead of realizing they might not even be hearing it right or unable to process their response, has led to unecessary shootings or traumatizing results for both, & lessens trust in the police in general. Police would prefer not to go on those calls, training takes years for such a myriad complicated range of symptoms, & it takes up time when crime calls are also coming in, & that's why some cities have done this, bc police chimed in & said please do get psych techs and behavioral health specialists to respond instead. And seriously, some cops don't realize regular people may freeze up at sudden harsh military sounding orders. Some have shot a person bc they didn't understand, then found out afterwards. & Frankly some are way too desensitized, & that's not better either. It IS misnamed, badly. It really means spend the funding already spent on that on others who are prepared for those situations. It frees police from flying blind into stressful situations that are way less stressful for trained personnel. Cops would rather focus on crime and public safety. & Many people calling 911 expect just an ambulance & someone who understands mental health if that's the nature of the call, & didn't intend police to come especially ones unfamiliar with that type of thing. People call 911 for an ambulance, but then just describe what's going on, & don't specify they JUST want behavioral health techs so it's a movement to make that standard instead of sending cops. You wouldn't send a detective, right? So why send a patrolman either? It simply isn't his job or expertise. & Then he can get to a break-in call faster & be more likely to catch an intruder or attacker, or whatever.

When the police shoot African American citizens over and over, in the back, or step on their necks for almost ten minutes till they die, when someone is put into the paddy wagon and arrives dead, and it happens over and over, the call to defund the police was to divert funds to other organizations with more experience in de escalating situations like domestic violence or people who are mentally ill. Think of the. Hildren that recently died in a school shooting while the police were outside the classroom for an HOUR while the shooter killed the teacher and so many children. I am all for good cops, but there has been a growing lack of responsibility resulting in unnecessary deaths, most often minorities simply stopped for a traffic ticket who end up dead, it makes me very angry. We can do better.

I suggest looking at areas that have moved forward with the defunding police actions, such as Seattle, Minnesota. Crime is rampant, everyday life has become much more problematic dealing with even simple lawlessness. Therapists as a substitute for active policing - ineffective at best, a joke at taxpayer expense.

56:20 - She said "Oh, no, I don't need a lawyer." I'm writing this right after she said it, so I don't know how it will play out. But for anybody reading this: "I don't need a lawyer" are 5 words to NEVER say to a cop, no matter the circumstances. If you're at the beach and a cop says, "Have you ever surfed before?" say "I need a lawyer." If you're married to a cop and you're in labor on the way to deliver your first child and he says, "Honey, are you comfortable," say "I need a lawyer." I totally support cops, but I also support our freedom and rights.

I LOVE TOM BERENGER ! He is an EXCELLENT ACTOR & HIS MOVIE ARE ALWAYS TOP RATED!! I saw this movie Many, Many years ago... I enjoyed it even more this time and I did not remember how it ended but very intense movie. This is such a well written storyline and the actors were excellent all the way around. It’s unfortunate that the reality of the storyline does cross into the reality of our world. I happen to live in Wichita Kansas during the time of the BTK Serial Killer we’re men women and children were killed and tortured end it took the police department, the DA and many others who are involved in trying to solve their murders over 25 years.... those officers involved I am sure to this day struggle with the portions of that case that they were not able to bring to trial as well as the families. This movie reminds me of much of the similarities in that timeframe that I lived in Wichita Kansas… The most frightening time of my life to raise my small children and he was EVERYWHERE WE WERE...Trolling same neighborhood, And could because he was a security guard, a church Deacon, a boy Scout leader, etc. not to mention living in a nice neighborhood. Our officers do not have an easy job trying to solve these types of crimes and I just want to take a moment to applaud our men and women of the police force and the attorneys who have to fight for the law against evil of this type in this movie!!! Great story Line!!! SUPERIOR ACTING ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

Terrific, the writers used the "troubled detective with the disgruntled wife and a kid that feels robbed of his dad's attention" subplot so we won't get bored and space out waiting for the cops to catch a sicko that's killing old folks and cats.

What entertains me? From the comments below: 'a lot to admire' and 'gripping and realistic', but 'portrays our human situation well'. For me this movie is not very entertaining. There are excellent elements of police procedural, but I hate, among other things, in the first nine minutes: - a main character going through a divorce, romantic breakup, whatever. Over used. - an executive having the police chief's attitude to his subordinates. I want to see (and work with) executives who say what do you need/want from me to do your job. - the cute child being the focus of the movie, flying his kite. That is when I hit the delete/exit/stop key. Tim Berenger is one my favorite actors. Full Screen Movies Collection, thank you very much for your efforts. May you and yours stay well and prosper.

@wildwoodsgirl1706
@wildwoodsgirl1706 2 жыл бұрын
@@exynzop4981 Comments are for discussing afterwards - unless you don't mind a glimpse of plot. People are going to discuss the movie bc that's what comments are used for by enough people that it's inevitable. (There's no point in dozens or hundreds of people just saying they liked it or didn't like it bc unless they tell us why we have no idea if they have any taste in movies, lol, right?) So, consider the word "Comments" to mean "Spoiler Alert," & better save them for after, except for a quick keyword scanning for whether the ending is cut off or there's no sound or etc. I've rarely seen a video with more than 3 comments in which nobody brought up plot details. This is where people react to them. I'm not fussing, btw, I'm just pointing it out to save somebody frustration bc it's what a lot of people use comments for.

@@exynzop4981 Plus, somebody probably needs to know it may contain disturbing details as she warns bc not everyone is up for that, & many detective stories are cozies and aren't necessarily gruesome. Expectations do vary.

2:14:00 a violent murder suspect would not be in court without handcuffs and leg shackles. They can be dressed in a suit rather than the orange jumpsuit, but having him just sitting there next to his attorney, free to attack the child as he walked past is not realistic.
