I understand that a movie can’t really follow a long King book, but I do miss that Gard wasn’t drunk. I loved how he found his strength at his deepest weakness. King often uses broken people that way and it was a huge inspiration to me growing up. No matter how bad life got you could still make a difference.

So much of the tommyknockers took place in the mind that it was hard to translate into a movie scene.. my favorite part of the book is the mathitician thats driving near the town on his way to a math professors convention.. and as he passes near the town he convieves deep math thay no other human had ever known. Theories came to him proving then origins of space and time.. and as he drives out of the area he loses the knowledge.. hes so devastated thay he hangs himself at his hotel

@IP-pm7px yep.. and as I remember he also figured out the actual square root of pi..instead of it going on in infinite decimals. I got so into that book because right as hs ended my best friend, my dad and I took a month long backpacking trip on the pacific crest trail. I brought the book with me. We were waaaaayyy back there. So at night there were zero distractions after dark. Just pitch black, my head lamp, and the book. It gave me the chance to deeply focus on it and reflect on each page. No tv or anything else to taint the images of what I just read. It was among the most crystal clear readings I've ever done.. if that makes sense

Because this was filmed in winter in the Northern Hemisphere, the location was moved to New Zealand. I enjoyed this film, but the critics panned it, as did also Stephen King, who later said that this was one of his worst novels as well. From the Wikipedia article on this film: ***** The miniseries received negative reviews. Tony Scott in Variety described it as "hokey whoop-de-doo" and criticised the writing and the special effects, though he praised the acting. The Toledo Blade praised the "riveting visualization of the novel", calling it "one of the better adaptations of a King novel". In 2014, it was ranked by The New York Observer as the third worst Stephen King miniseries. On Rotten Tomatoes, The Tommyknockers holds an approval rating of 30% based on 23 reviews, with an average rating of 4.50/10. The site's critical consensus reads, "Unlikeable characters, a bloated narrative, and drab scripting make The Tommyknockers a hard watch for even the most die-hard of Stephen King fans." Also, the miniseries has not received any praise from King himself, going so far as to say that "he doesn't care for 1993's The Tommyknockers at all." Ironically, in a 2014 interview with Rolling Stone, King even called his own novel "an awful book".
@justinhousman7760 Жыл бұрын
the book is awful

And yet, looking upon the behaviour of the Critic Class and that whole 'officialised sources' walk of life, they're just as captured in terms of what thinking they deem acceptable, as the Tommyknocker Servants of the town are captured in terms of how they behave and how they act. Its kind of a prelude, a reflective piece of work, then given criticism because the critic class and then the author are of the minds to think that the details therein don't apply to their behaviours. Time has proven the film correct in some respects, and their cynicism a deflection.

@MickGarrisRules20 күн бұрын
A good but not great adaptation of a good but not great book. Unlike most people, I don't think King adaptations are "hit or miss". 90% of The King adaptations I've seen I like (and trust me, I've seen a lot). If feels like unless it's the Shawshank Redemption, Stand by Me, or Kubrick's The Shining, it's automatically an "insult" to Stephen King's work. As such, I don't share the hatred of the tv mini-series adaptations, (this one specifically) that most have. The Tommyknockers mini-series' biggest strength is what many say is it's biggest flaw, it's low budget. King clearly was inspired by old sci-fi films and books of the 50s and 60s, and this mini-series feels life a homage to those. A huge budget wouldn't have worked for this type of story.

Steven King is the best, I love scary movies, and get afraid sometimes to, will read his book from beginning to end and vice versa,they say that the end is always the beginning.

This screenplay absolutely MURDERED the book, and made Gard more noble but the hero aspect is retained, which isn't surprising since Gard is just Stephen King without the success lol... Bobbi Anderson surviving was a strange twist and BRAVO on her releasing Peter,, but there's NOTHING I hate more in a movie than when the Real Sl*t gets killed lol...

Trooper Dugan should’ve been played by a much much larger man! In the book he was huge

I noticed this video in the recommendations, I remember watching it when it originally aired on TV, I was guessing around 1994 (the description says it's from '93). I would have been in 3rd grade and I liked watching scary movies when I was that age, it was not actually a bad influence and maybe helped develop some positive traits, especially compared to what all the other horrible media did to make me such a stupid jerk!

Oddly enough most people including SK think this book was one of the worst he wrote along with Dreamcatcher. It's one of my favorites, far ahead The Stand which is everyone's favorite.

There are magical places or spiritual places. One is in Spring Valley, and one is near Ensenada. I attribute the experience to the developer in California, who was very environmentally aware and kept the trees; especially the giant tree there, because he built around it instead of chopping it down and leveling the plot. I have no other explanation than the supernatural, and all were positive experiences.

I watched the mini series about a year ago and I enjoyed it. I just fast forwarded through it on KZbin just now as a refresher. I saw two big differences. The aliens came to life in the movie but not in the novel. He blows up the ship in the movie, but in the novel, he just flies into space and is gone. What was Gard immune to the effects in the movie?

in this wack movie they say he had the willpower to not become and that the plate in his head was irrelevant. so dumb. but in the book which is amazing the plate only delays the becoming cuz in the end he’s losing teeth n stuff. there’s also bobbi’s sister who only makes it to her house cuz she had most her teeth were metal.
