Honestly, i can't recall any other zombie games from the time. There were a few zombie shows/movies tho. Zombie fetish doesnt go away, look at Burnie and he's not even all that hardcore of a prepper, there are tons of em out there, preppers, not puppys and kittens (zombies)

The best mod setup to me is (bar maybe the *one* wacky mod, like one anime or poptart character) is using only weapon mods, and even then those weapons being real life stuff. Namely old weapons like Garands and revolvers.

In my game, every character, item, and gun is from another game. My tank is Randy Savage, my boomer is Patrick from Spongebob, and my smoker is Squidward. The jockey is Diddy Kong but with Danny Devito voicelines. It's a fun experience.

It's hard to watch this and they get hit by everything. I remember playing L4D1 and clearing Expert clean with a team and punting/skeeting hunters. To too it off they are on PC. No controller excuse.

Special infected are under-powered in vanilla game, be it VS or just regular.

Good teams can't be wiped that easily. These "team destructions" you speak of, are mostly due to a skill gap. In equal skill situation, survivors will almost always have an advantage. The game imposed limitations on special infected can be abused to no end by the survivors.

Getting a full lobby of equally skilled players is fairly difficult task. The fact that you think it's that simple, I feel like you've never seen a good team play on survivor side.

Being possible or impossible holds no relevance regards my original comment. Occasional outplay does not make the infected any more balanced. Special infected are way too weak from survivor perspective. Considering the limited player base within the past few years, you are most likely going to be pit against random people with varying skills levels. Thus, VS is simply not a satisfying experience from survivor perspective. PvP in L4D is most often sought out as increase to difficulty. You don't balance the game for the top players.
