The things that went under the rug within the police departments were rampant before body cams, and still are to a certain extent just not as open as it was back then wether to save the image of the police from local/national news or just plain buddy buddy. Hence why that one cop twiddling his thumbs say's "it's not like the old days". The stories that went on back then would shock any rational person. Cops are needed in society, but it's no secret they get more of a special treatment by their own blue to cover for them compared to a regular citizen in certain situations.

In the "old days" aka pre 2000 cops gave a lot more leeway to just about everyone. I remember my senior year of high school in 1997. A bunch of us seniors that played football went to a big field party. I was in a car with a few other guys and 2 girls and we were all crammed in there. We got pulled over at like 2 am. We had all drank a few beers despite being underage. I was still 17 along with a few others and 2 guys were 18. The cop saw beer cans in the back seat. Made us all get out and he dumped the beer on the side of the road. Asked where we were going. We told him to the one guy Chris's house which was actually 1/2 mile away tops. He told us to get out asses there and stay inside the rest of the night. We drove away and he followed us to the house then drove away. That would never happen today.

My jaw is on the floor with the third one. When I took my CCW class here on the east side of Cleveland, one of the biggest things they drove through our minds was that you never touch your gun in the presence of an officer. When you get stopped, you leave your hands highly visible and calmly inform the officer you are exercising your 2A and have a concealed firearm, describe its location, and let them know you will follow whatever orders they give. And, if they order you to touch your gun for some reason, confirm with them as it is a felony in the state of Ohio. The fact this officer brazenly lifted his shirt and placed his hand directly on his weapon as an intimidation tactic... and he didn't lose his job? Ridiculous. What makes it even worse is the background on this situation - this was a Bratenahl city detective who was on stakeout duty in East Cleveland (they are neighboring towns.) He had this amount of kit in his vehicle because he was on official duty.
