Its truly interesting that chapter 2 has three endings. And people don’t really talk about the one when you fight queen without loosening the berdly’s wire only using fight, that results Him losing an Arm.

The Berdly outcomes in chapter 2 is something very interesting indeed. I actually thought about mentioning it in this video, I just couldn't find anywhere to fit it in unfortunately. Perhaps if/when I make a part 2, I'll bring it up.

So, in order for Berdly to gain Freedom himself, he loses a part. In order for us to gain Freedom, we must break the game and characters.

But end of Dark World isn't the ending. The ending is Kris opening a fountain, as credits roll. This, ultimately, is just a middle piece.

I'm also interested in the Twisted Sword route. You can get the Thorn Ring without forcing Noelle to put Berdly on ice, so I'm interested in seeing if that has any difference between a going through with freezing him or not.

I like to think when we’re told our “choices don’t matter”, it’s directed towards Kris, not us The Voice/Gaster in the beginning tells us “we can’t pick who we want to BE” Never “Your choices don’t matter” Susie does say that “your choices don’t matter”.. But not to us, to Kris.

To be fair, regardless of the route, Susie hasn't figured out us the player, is controlling Kris via our soul in them. She's only noticed Kris acting unusual or being in a state of emotional suffering. Such as after the Spamton Neo secret boss fight on the normal route of chapter 2. She is the first to actually act and pick up on Kris suffering. While Ralsei is unusually very dismissive of Kris's feelings at that moment. If you make Kris say they're okay, Susie immediately knows that's not true. Leading to some dark humor that cheers up Kris. It's canon that both Undertale and Deltarune are game worlds. With only few who knows they exist in a game. And it is canon that we are controlling Kris like a puppet. Spamton implies it after the battle of him as a secret boss, and any time Kris wants their full free will, they tear the soul out of their body. But it seems Kris cannot survive long without our soul, as they walk stiffly like a zombie without it, and they always put our soul back into their body at some point. I'm honestly curious what Toriel's role will be in Chapter 3. No way is she not involved in any way, since Kris opened Chapter 3's dark fountain with Toriel and Susie asleep in the living room where Kris opened that fountain. I'm also curious what will Toriel's reaction to Ralsei, as he looks allot like her son Asriel. No way is Ralsei not going to be there after Kris did the very thing he stopped Berdley from doing so. And I'm curious what will be Toriel's Dark World form. Every Lightner we've seen be in a Dark World had a different appearance than in the Light World

Deltarune is a game about battles of opposites. Light vs Dark, Reality vs Dreams, Angels vs Demons, and so on. This duality is in every aspect of the game, even including its name. “Delta Rune”, Delta being the Greek letter that is used in physics to mean “Change in” and Rune (according to some definitions) meaning “An ancient glyph carved into stone”, which can also be taken to mean “something set in stone”. Together, this means the title of the game is essentially “Change what is set in stone”, or “change the unchangeable”, but each half of the title also independently refers to opposites in the idea of duality I brought up- “Determination” and “Determinism” (which is the philosophical doctrine that suggests that humans do not have free will, and everything that will ever happen is algorithmically determinable from a provided state). Deltarune is a battle of the will of the player and the story designed for them to play through.

i find it very interesting how different a role determination plays in both stories, both with a double meaning. Yes, determination means a strong will, but in undertale it also means de-termination, in which someone has the ability to reverse termination, or death. In deltarune, Its double meaning is swapped to be more focused on how someone may DETERMINE fate. I had not yet thought of that.

Berdly can't be dead physically, because despite the monsters being more physical in Deltarune's world, there is text in-game saying that monsters still turn to dust upon death. Berdly is most likely comatose

I'd be very surprised if that's all it was used for. It's very likely we're going to see more parallels with Undertale as the story progresses. For instance, one place I could see it being used is the case of Rudy Holiday, a dying monster. In Undertale, there's all the amalgamates who were essentially revived using determination injections and there's Asriel who was revived as Flowey. What would happen if a monster died, turned to dust with that dust being spread on an object like with Flowey, and you then proceeded to open a dark fountain there? Dark fountains already as is have the power to bring inanimate objects to life. On top of that, Rudy's daughter just happens to be someone Queen thought would be determined enough to open a new fountain... Just food for thought.

separate comment cause this just occurred to me as i was watching the Closing Thoughts section. you mention how if monsters have determination in Undertale, then they become a pile of goop, "unless you're Undyne, sort of." ... and what i realised is, the key difference between the Amalgams and regular Undyne and Undyne the Undying, is that both the Amalgams and regular Undyne aren't determined enough to achieve a desired goal. however, Undyne the Undying does. in the Genocide route, Undyne is carrying the *fate* of humans and monsters on her shoulders, and she is determined enough to try to stop you, or change that fate. in a Neutral route, if you just kill Undyne, you're not a big threat to the fate of humans and monsters, so she just becomes a pile of goop.

I like to think that "Determination" is not synonymous with "willpower" (even if the game makes parallels between the two). It's a compound word of "de" and "termination" (as in, "to reverse termination"), similarly to how "But it refused!" at the end of Undertale can be interpreted as the broken heart/soul literally fusing back into a single piece. What's the significance of this distinction? Fuck if I know, but I like this interpretation better than just the standard "humans = willpower" bullshit modern media has been pushing for decades.
@horrorfanatic7910 күн бұрын
i feel like it should be pointed out that there's a difference between the No Mercy route and the Genocide route in Undertale. the No Mercy route is just the route where you kill every monster you encounter naturally in a run (a Neutral run), whereas the Genocide route is where you go out of your way to kill every single monster you can in the underground (a _Genocide_ run). this distinction is important especially in this video because a No Mercy route could arguably be considered as lacking the drive to achieve a desired result, or determination. you're just killing whatever appears in front of you. in a Genocide route, however, you actually _go out of your way_ to wipe out the underground, no matter if a fish lady carrying the burden and hopes and dreams of all humans and monsters on her shoulders, or a nihilist skeleton, both of which are also determined to stop you, try to do so. that aside, as a Genocide route main and as a Weird route/Snowgrave route main player, i love this video and how it shows a side of Deltarune that people don't often see, or want to see.
@Plantarc10 күн бұрын
Oh no I completely agree with you, I just avoided saying "Genocide Route" in this video as... I'm not sure if KZbin would be fond of the term. So I aired on the side of caution and avoided saying the word. It is the better and more accurate name for the route though.
@horrorfanatic7910 күн бұрын
@Plantarc ahhh i see, yeah that was my guess. though i'm pretty sure it's fine, Undertale content creators have been using the term forever now and youtube never seemed to have a problem with it, to my knowledge. and i'm deep in the theory rabbit hole... oh god.
