This is the fisrt part of the interpretation(summary) of 'Determined (by Robert Sapolsky )'
This video primarily has three key points:
1.The common understanding is wrong : biological attributes-something you have to accept;mental attributes-qualities you can actively choose, representing free will.
2.There is no magical mental attribute; these qualities are also biological attributes.
3.It's impossible to successfully will yourself to have more willpower.
In the video, one book was mentioned, namely:
1.Robert Sapolsky, 《Behave:The Biology of Humans at Our Best and Worst》.
00:00:00 Introduction.
00:01:20 You have no free will.
00:03:08 No mental attribute.
00:08:03 The PFC .
00:10:39 An Experiment about Racial Discrimination .

The mental decision proccess is correlated with FTC activity, but not determined by it, other activity like moral judgement May be there too. So the choice has free will component. Unless we equate human decision with frontal cortex activity, which is still mystery.

Sapolsky is at the leading edge of an insight that has the potential to radically change society, perhaps even more than germ theory changed the treatment of disease. Highly recommended book.

Incredibly lucid and well-supported argument. For example: “Humans do not have free will, case closed.” (2:13). AI really is impressive.

As an adult, when expressing opinions about others' views, it's best to read their words in full. I also hope that after watching the entire series of videos, you express your opinions. Otherwise, you might think that concepts like "emergence" and "subatomic" are known only to you.

In my opinion,Dr Rober Sapolsky's point in writing the book seems to be denying free will in a biological sense. He said: Beyond all biological factors, you don't have a single neuron that is genuinely free. All your previous experiences have shaped your biological being, determining your current actions. To prove the existence of free will, you must demonstrate that there is some behavior beyond all biological attributes - and currently, nothing known in the scientific community can prove this.

@@DeepDiveBooks But OBVIOUSLY, that is complete bullshit. Computation is NOT a biological phenomenon. And in any case: Sapolsky himself believes there is Free Will. He is unable (or unwilling) to go to the logical conclusion of his (idiotic) assertions. The laws of physics do not even address the concept of goal-oriented action, yet that is a basic FACT of human action> Physics CANNOT explain human behavior. Sapolsky is motivated by a POLITICAL agenda, namely Leftist collectivism. Nothing else. Science has nothing to do with any of this. His arguments are infantile. Shame on him for pushing this nonsense to make a buck and promote Communism (oh, the irony!)..

Obviously. Just semantics. We must live AS THOUGH we have free will or society could not function.

Spalosky is too semplistic . And he does not deal with the damaged PFG that produces murderers rapists and plans for genocide and he does not deal with the atrocious dangerous consequences of a damage PFC : and he accept that Cain is normal and Achilles is a hero .

This is false. He clearly discusses the cases where brain damage exonerates a perpetrator from responsibility. He extends that insight to all brains. Just as we realized that epilepsy is not caused by demons, and developed treatments instead of blame, we must do the same for unacceptable actions.

There IS free will...and it is trivially easy to prove. The only truly surprising thing...is that someone as supposedly intelligent as Sapolsky...can be so easily debunked!

@@MrGreystone59 Sapolsky’s argument is very simple. He is claiming that consciousness (aka: you) is a function of biology…and biology is deterministic…therefore ‘you’ (and your decision-making) are also deterministic. But…nobody actually has a clue what consciousness is…let alone how it is created. If you put Sapolsky and every living cognitive scientist in a room they still couldn't even begin to explain how a single moment of human subjective experience occurs (...that's worth emphasizing: It's not just that they couldn't explain it...they couldn't even BEGIN to explain it). These are FACTS. If Sapolsky wants to pretend he has solved the consciousness problem…then there is a Nobel prize with his name on it.

@@MrGreystone59 What this means…is that there is a VAST area of ‘you’ that is utterly inscrutable. Nobody has a clue either what it is or how it works. That 'something' ALSO influences everything you do.
