Determining the quadratic equation given a vertex and a point

👉 Learn how to write the equation of a parabola given three points. The equation of a parabola is of the form f(x) = ax^2 + bx + c, where a, b and c are constants. Since, the equation of a parabola has 3 constants, three equations and hence three points are needed to solve/obtain the equation of a parabola.
Given three points on a parabola, we use the standard form of a quadratic equation to set up a system of three linear equations which we solve to obtain: a, b, and c and hence, the equation of the parabola.

@@ceruleansummer3723 Yeah if you are given the vertex of your graph you won't be able to find out the horizontal/vertical shrink/stretch. Likewise, if you are given the roots of the equation, you won't be able to find the y coordinate of your vertex, but you can find the x axis by finding the mean of the x coordinates for both your roots.

Plug in the coordinates for the vertex and point into the equation y=(x-h)^2+k where (h,k) represents the coordinates of the vertex and (x,y) represent any points on the graph. I also have many videos on this if you search my channel

I know this is old but I think point slope form is only for *linear* equations. Quadratic formula don't have a consistent slope.
