I think cleaning out the canopy is more forgiving the lower the height of cut, especially in summer. If feels there's an exponential amount of debris in taller cut lawns from layover, matting, and lateral growth. I just took my SunJoe through the lawn the previous weekend (before the current heatwave was forecasted). I had my TTTF heavy lawn at 3.5 inches before and worked it down to 2. It was pretty beat up after running the SunJoe twice on it, and I'm currently going heavy on the water to keep the recovery going through the heatwave. But lesson learned here; I'm planning to keep it at 2.5 inches through the summer next year to keep it manageable.

So after a great June and July I tried using 41% Glyphosate on the Scotts ProVista KBG. Well using the wrong rate did some damage to the lawn. I end up scalping the lawn to 3/8" and dethatching in two different directions. After cleanup hit it with Humic 12, RGS and a full rate of 18-0-1 GreenPunch. I also used my ProPlugger to replace the spots that were damaged. Now 3 weeks later the lawn is back to how it looked in June and July minus the weeds and spots are recovering nicely.

I did an experiment a couple years ago.. dethatched one area and left the rest. After 4 weeks of mowing and mulching clippings, I had just as much debris again.
@Tundra_Guy Жыл бұрын
Thats because that machine, which I also own, only pulls up debris in the lawn, not thatch.
@JoeEinMinne Жыл бұрын
@fjd772 that wasn't my point. The point was that "dethatching" as a fad since all of these plug-in machines came out cleans dead clippings out of a lawn pretty well. But it doesn't stay clean for more than maybe 3 weeks of mowing/mulching.

Im going to dethatch my yard tomorrow. I got it mowed down today. It doesn't look good now but thats ok i know it will look good again shortly. Going to dethatch and overseed it then compost over the top. Its in the 80s the next 10 days with some rain so figured id get it done now. Thats just the front yard then going to get the back yard started.

I’m kind of in “fall cleaning” mode around here. It’s a good time to make changes and do damage to the lawn with the new growth cycle coming

I was wondering a couple videos back you mentioned using a growth regulator. I pick up some, it’s been around 100 degrees for weeks ans hasn’t rained in 6 weeks. But my St.Augustine in the high irrigated areas are growing like crazy, 3-6 inches in a week. Could I apply the growth regulator now while the lawns under stress? With St.Augustine will the growth regulator slow down the stolons and the root growth ?

You should just come out and say it. The N-Ext Dethatch really works and it was obvious from this video. Thanks, Marc

I’m happy with how it’s been on one app
@zeebecks8704 Жыл бұрын
So you only did that one app of dthatch. Wouldn’t more be better? Or is one in the spring enough to get to fall? I know every lawn is different. But is d thatch something that you could throw down on a more regular basis like the rgs and it would just help keep that buildup down? Or should you not overdo it. Thanks. I know this question sucks.
@Lawncology Жыл бұрын
I only did one early to see how it did coming into summer. That way I could guava a single throughout the season. Maybe I’ll do another app now and test again for fall

About your robot mower, I have my lawn down on 3/4 inch with the gardena sileno life robot. It’s never getting stuck on tall grass. I do have it on every day, I level my lawn with spil and not sand, and it is a little bumpy etc. But even if it for some reason doesn’t mow for 4-5 days and the grass is really tall, and I do push it well with fert, there’s never an issue to cut it. It never does any weord circles or scalping etc. Maybe it stops and turns around on a hill, but the lawn gets cut well in all cases. Husqvarna and Gardena hade from the same concern of companies and they share some parts etc, and the husqvarna is supposed to be the quality version and gardena more valuable for the lower cost or it. Still, seems weird ypu are having problems with it. Are you having an old generation or robot? Mine is running its 5th season now without the problems you experience.

I believe I'd go with Humic 20 after the SunJoe since the thatch was removed. Winding down your Summer growing season and won't be long before you're covered up with weather. Am I wrong? I do it to my lawns here in Upstate SC for my dormant or about to go dormant turfs. Okay. Bye!

Nothing wrong with that. Maybe I’ll run it through the tank.

I’m actually surprised as to how much thatch you were able to pull up in the area that you did use your D-thatch liquid on? That’s a very good side by side demonstration! It hotter the hell here this week, feels like temps of 112*-115* and I was as you know planning on re-seeding to fix the areas in the yard that were devastated from the project?! They are saying after this week we will have nighttime temps in low 60’s maybe mid 50’s and highs in the low 80’s so I’ll be monitoring the soil temps and try to get seed in over Labor Day weekend?! Wish me luck!
