I was about to say the same thing .... I really hate the blood spec ... I wanted to play with dots and curses ... But I'm just killing myself everytime ... Act 3 bosses are insane with this spec .. not fun at all but I'm refusing to start a new character before finishing the campaign ... So sad, I was having a great time, doing my own setup, no guides .... until the ascendancy selection 😢 ...

@@piskore I cleared the main campaign + cruel with ed contagion blood mage on SSF and while I wouldn't say it was a good build compared to others it can clear the story if that is your goal. I used: ED with Swift Affliction, Persistence and Chain Contagion with Magnified Effect, Unleash and Chaotic Freeze/Hinder Dark Effigy with Withering Touch, Ancestral Urgency and Arcane Tempo (A bot for withering stacks on boss/rare) Chaos Bolt from a Withering Wand with Envenom and Bursting Plague until you get Hexblast. The Chaos Bolt is supplementary damage while your dots tick Blasphemy with Despair (important for hexblast) I ran with Vitality, life regen, life and recoup nodes to offset the life costs + whatever defenses I could get a hold of through gear. I grabbed a lot of chaos nodes ofc, curse buffs, life. It may not have been fast but it was consistent the entire playthrough.

I've been playing this as well, one thing I would suggest would be to run a lower level DD as the corpse health doesn't scale so it just means you spend less health and mana, my DD as a 5 link currently costs just 39 life and mana. Also I am running spell echo as it just adds a lot of damage and gives you even more coverage with the 30% more aoe on the echo.

100% agree, while leveling i kept it up to just see the mana and it was so low didn't really matter, but a lower level one is better

I am playing a version of this build on infernalist. Single target weapon set runs archmage. Clear weapon set has 100% poison chance, cast on minion death contagion, and popcorn srs so that I don’t have to click on every single monster when they trickle in. Blood mage is probably more dps but infernalist’s spirit node lets me cheap out on gearing, as the build is very spirit hungry.

Shouldn't be nerfed. Most important gear pieces are the unique wand and scepter. He also talks about getting minion skill mods off the amulet, helm, and jewels. Other wise you just gear for life, cap your resistances, energy shield, and spell damage. I will say early on when you start Cruel, you should get Cloak of Flame; it's a great unique with alot of fire res and it splits 40% the physical damage you take into fire damage, which is then also mitigated by resistances. Converting parts of damage into other damage is very effective in poe

You can also just go Grenade Crossbows , it seems to be a good way to level on all, just go for fire damage and such on the tree, doing something similar on Ignite Detonate dead Infernalist

hey. i just posted a build like that myself :D if i may offer some advice: just use corpse explosion level 7. makes mana so much less of an issue and you dont kill yourself as bloodmage. The flat damage per level is not that important. its all the minion life scaling. also: it looks like you overlooked 2 supports: minion pact and brutality. they are just better than the less cast speed one and maybe the crit on full life one.

Cool to get a look at this, thanks for the footage! I had a question about Profane Ritual? If you cast it on a minion does it move around with them like a little aura or does it stay on the ground where you cast it?

Sacrifice kills the minion. So it will stay where you cast it.

In the context of stacking chance to not consume the corpse, it should not kill the minion most of the time though? With quality it's a 95% chance to let it live. Also, Profane does not consume the corpse until the end of the effect so it should not kill the minion until then?

I would say probably over 60, definitely want sacrifice, and chance to not consume corpses to feel smoother

if you move away from freeze build up and just get the good cold damage at the very top (maybe grab the cold pen in the middle) and focus on the nearby crit nodes, you can still do enough damage with fireball frost wall to get through the campaign. I'm definitly in the market for a new blood mage build rn, starting maps and i just don't know if cast on crit can be a good COF substitute for blood mage.

Nice! Did you pick up 1st ascendancy node right away or later? I saw people struggling to stay alive with it early. PS: weird that 1k views video is 100000% better than 200k ones, poe2 infested youtube with "false guides" where people run act3 with "broken build"

I got it right away and leveling was pretty rough, but I was being a bit of a noob. I picked up DD in cruel and used bonestorm to make the first corpse, was pretty smooth from there

Does "Last Gasp" support gem (minions live for 4 seconds after hp reaches 0) interact in any way with Sacrifice and DD? I might be a way to prolong how many DDs you get in case minions die.

It doesn't work unfortunately, when the corpse is "consumed" they still just die instantly, because their life never reaches 0

I think since I went infernalist I’ll opt for herald of ash to help with clear. I specced my tree into fire damage which feels like it only buffs part of DD so maybe I will respec to Crit and spell damage

I've thought about it, I'm not sure before messing around with it, the flat damage from dd makes it great. You could prob scale cast speed and spawn a ton of VDs though

@@jacobst3 I rolled blood mage to try it but there is several issues I can't work around including the amount of VDs I can create and scaling the damage. With missing the corpse tag and fire spells on a scepter you need for spirit it becomes impossible to scale as far as I can see atm. Your build looks great tho man I think I will copy you for a while

hi nice build what are the minimum spirit requirements? where do you have it on gear?

Hey, I have +148 from my sceptre with only a 28% roll, with that gives me 3 brutes and all the auras which makes it comfy enough, upgrading sceptre or getting spirit on other gear could make it feel even better with more brutes or maybe a cleric. I'd say aim for mid 200s and just put on more auras/minions as you get more
