Oh man is this bus in need of some serious attention. 60 psi air leak in 10 seconds, bad differential rear end, turbo issues, tag axle swing arm. Lots of heavy lifting on this job. Diagnostic and repairs.

I have the luxury to have a dual stage commercial air compressor in my wood shop. Yesterday was one of the first nice days of the year (Reno, Nevada, right down the mountain from Tahoe, CA). So I took the throw rugs outside and blew them off. With a wide open valve, I couldn't lose 90lbs in 30 seconds. That is one massive air leak.

If you used a shop vac to take the dirt from above the air bag, probably wouldn't be so dusty as blowing it with the air hose. Working on the floor under those buses is a daunting job. Have to give you credit for your perseverance. Keep up the good work.

Very, very interesting mechanical components make up a Bus - love watching you guys work on them - you earn every dollar you are paid to perform this work. It's amazing to me to watch you pull something out that is just crumbles of rust and corrosion - also the amount of dirt collected on the road is phenomenal. Anxiously waiting for the next video on this Bus - Keep 'em coming fellas!

I'm a coach driver and have driven MC-7 coach in service for charter companies, that coach has been the receiver of " El Cheapo Coach Owners Syndrome". As in " It will still go down the road syndrome". Had one guy try to convince me that the bus didn't need to turn right (it only turned left). Maybe that one needed to be titled "Nascar Fan Coach operators syndrome"!

Story about bad gearboxes. Had a box that has a 400 hp motor input, right angle drive that reduced 1750 rpm down to about12 rpm. Took all the horsepower to drive the shaft on a dryer/mixer. Guys were fishing around in it on shutdown and got 3 or 4 gear teeth. They were 6 inches tall and about 2 inches across. This thing is definitely bad. The plant manager said it would be okay and just run it. It lasted about a day and when it blew it cracked the top cover and probably sprained everything else. He was in a hurry to get started up but ended up costing more downtime. This box was about 4 x 4 x 6 feet long.

That was scary seeing the differential plug with a part of tooth on it! Did it turn out the diff gears were OK? That hunk of metal on drain plug later looked later like it may have possibly come from a replaceable bearing. It would be a good day if that was the case!
@BusGreaseMonkey
@BusGreaseMonkey Жыл бұрын
I believe the welded housing caused lateral stress in the pinion bearing caused it to fail. And the extra metal degraded the other bearings and caused excess wear on all the components. The low oil condition with it being 1/2 empty also added to wear and heat. Entire rear end swap under $1000 in parts, just plug and play from another mci
