Your photographs were hauntingly beautiful. I have always been intrigued with abandoned buildings and structures, but in Detroit's case it seems like a mighty giant has fallen. To go from one of the best cities in America to what it is now is shameful. Seeing those once beautiful houses, hotels, buildings, etc just standing silent almost makes you think this footage is taken from another country. Thanks for posting. x

No, the government taxed people to build houses for the poor, very few if any ever actually get built. Kinda like all them "shovel ready jobs' that never came. I think it's code word for "let me scam a few billion out of you and give to our friends. But, don't worry we still have grubs stubs and section 8 for you." I've learned nobody is going to lookout for you, like you. Trusting a politician is for suckers. I think we can see the proof. It's sad and what I am saying may not be popular, but I am also being straight up. The only thing government has done is produce lot's of debt and dependence, and they need that to keep their power.

America needs it's Industries back! when I was growing up my father would not buy anything unless it said MADE IN USA. Americans need to STOP buying imports and support our country. When you purchase a item that is made in USA you know you are keeping a fellow American a paycheck. We are keeping other countries people in jobs. Support your own country!!!

I would love to support MADE IN USA. I buy American when I can, but tell me where I can find all of today's necessities without purchasing something made in China or elsewhere. I would love to know. Sorry to say that allot of items we cannot find made in USA these days. What we can, we need to support. I do feel things will come for a change. I was hoping I wouldn't be around when WWIII comes but the way things are going w/ Russia, China and the Middle East it could be sooner then we think. During the war and mostly after the war will bring many changes for the United States. This country will have to rebuild and from this the American people will need jobs to bring back our economy. +Byron Benguche' very true, sad thing is, it's going to take a long time for Detroit to get back on its feet after 4 decades of trouble. But in a way Detroit had this coming from the start. From early on up to the late 40s White people for the most part held the power of the growth of the city, sadly I think the 50s was the turning point. Only if they had gave chance to holding more value in people, inclusion and aloud the change of time to be a chance to grow. Instead they hit it with fear and fought against everything. A lot can go wrong and did go wrong. Detroit today is result of people not coming together for the greater good. Now its going to be up to generations to come to set the fate of Detroit. Only thing we can do is hope for the best. And I hope they will save as many old cool builds as possible.

Now vehicles can be put together by machines and the parts are coming from other countries, (hence made in America) Costs the business a whole lot less having 30 men on the line than having 200 men on the line. The only thing Detroit was offering was the auto industry. You're living a delusion. There wasn't a rule that said you had to live in a certain mile radius to hold a job in Detroit. People would still travel 1+ hours to go to work everyday so your white people could have all moved out into the suburbs and segregate themselves and still travel to work everyday. It paid well and people were happy.

A lot of the American heartland started falling apart after Vietnam. I lived and worked in Youngstown, OH, in the late 1970s. Drugs were only a part of the problem. Globalism became a mantra for greedy American corporations and their associates overseas. The promise of cheap foreign labor, corporates not wanting to pay any taxes, sell-out politicians (both parties) and a general lack of genuine patriotism were all factors which contributed to America's slide. "The Greatest Generation' (those who endured The Great Depression and World War II) made this nation great and helped save the world from fascism. The Baby Boomers -- The Big Chill generation (my generation) bought into the globalist mindset and then sold out. America has also tossed aside a fundamental principle which is Biblically-based - "pay your workers a decent wage for a hard day's work." Instead, we've opted to allow millions of illegal immigrants into this country so we don't have to pay legal (naturalized) citizens a LIVING wage.

Unfortunately, It is impossible to rebuild Detroit even with Habitat For Humanity Volunteers. The reason is that many or most of the inner city people will kill all those good humanitarian people coming to help rebuild. Also the city and county government would NOT be very supportive either. Within 2 to 3 years Joplin MO has been restored from the tornado because Not only good volunteers BUT support from the community as well. Even in Moore Oklahoma and vicinity it is coming back as well. BUT for Detroit, it is best to not force any good upon an area that wishes to continue in corruption. Unless there is a repentance and change of heart, Detroit must come to nothing.

@michaelwatkins81679 жыл бұрын
Meism Theism thanks for the comments. in my opinion what happens when key social issues become to politicized the politics become more important then the social issue or concern. Case in point is the Unions (Teacher or Auto Union). During the industrial revolution automotive industries beginning manufacturing facilities had very unsafe work conditions. Unions help eradicate many worker problems but as time went on the unions became a political machine. All of us should pay attention to this key factor in balancing out politics and key social issues.

i lived by detriot a few years ago before moving to SoCal. Anyways, Detriot could be rebuilt. Yes it takes money and money we have, but for some reason we send it overseas instead of takong care of our own. The entire eastside could be torn down and allow nature to take over for a while. Since the area around the tiger stadium is nice then that can be the starting point and move towards the Westside. Detroit will most likely never be what it was but it can be a thriving small city where small business owners can work. But along with building comes strong policing, get rid of the bad elements and mae it so they don't want to return.

If you want to live in a country where the Constitution and Bill of Rights have no meaning then vote for Killary. If you want to live in a country where we have our military cut back to pre WWII and can't defend ourselves then vote Killary. If you believe it is alright for an Ambassador to plead for help for weeks but non was sent because we were running guns into ISIS and they didn't want the American people to find out, then vote for Killary. If you think it is alright to have the blood of 3 men from our military on the hands of the next President then vote for Killary. If you think it is alright to go after Bill Clinton's women and try to hurt them and shut them up then vote Killary. If you think it was alright to answer "what difference does it make" when questioned by the Senate in regards to Benghazi then vote Killary. If you think being weak militarily and trying to appease our enemies will lead to a long term peace then vote Killary because it has never worked, just ask Britton. If you think it is alright to treat waitresses and people who you consider beneath you like trash, then vote for Killary. If you think it is alright to lie and lie to cover up your lies over and over then vote Killary. It's so sad what's happened to Detroit. It was once a thriving city but now it's in shambles because nobody has money there. The lack of jobs is such a problem, and I know that if we don't stop giving the jobs away overseas, more cities will fall down the same path. Detroit could recover, but it would take a lot of work to tear down the mess that's been made of it. I really hope one day it can return to its former glory. Michigan would be a much safer place if we could get Detroit under control:)

The problem with Detroit is the city has been destroyed by Unions and being run by a democratic party for just about as long as it exsisted. The boom that it saw around ww 2 soon declined and Detroit became a city of entitlement by high unemployment rates losing industry to cheaper places. The city needed change a long time ago.

It's incredible to see this. Nature is reclaiming all this land. When you hand out everything, people loose the will to work hard and strive. Also, our foreign trade policies destroyed so much from the heartland. Looking back, how did our government ever expect Detroit to compete with China and Japan???? It's seems like craziness how those decisions hurt our country.

Your idea could help Detroit's dying cities revive little by little. Filming is expensive (especially in CA). Movie & TV studies should start making horror films, catastrophe films, war movies & maybe gangster films in Detroit/Michigan. Temporary filming jobs would be good for the locals (maintenance, extras, handyman, helpers of all kinds, etc). Pitch your idea (email) to movie & TV studios, like Lions Gate, Sony, Universal Studios, Showtime, Fox, Hallmark (etc).

The video starts with the message "Reduce Foreign Aid, Restore America". Detroit is feeling the pain, but they can't figure out what caused it, I would give no money to foreign countries, or Detroit... only a fool invests in failure. Government cannot fix this problem, in reality their actions caused it, if you want to know what the problem is, find the top 200 businesses that left Detroit or went bankrupt, talk to the owners and CEO's, they'll be happy to tell you what happened. I suspect that at one time, Detroit was the most productive city in America and perhaps the world (dividing gross product by numbers of workers). Until you find the poison you can't fix the patient.

Some claim that this is happening all over the country. For instance places like North Carolina used to be the textile capital of the world. Things just dried up.

One reason many of these houses fell into ruin is that the people who used to live there did not actually own them, so they had no incentive to kept them maintained. Absentee ownership is a major cause of urban decay.
