Detroit and the surrounding cities have some of the most beautiful homes in the world. Too bad folks only see the bad areas. Thank you for showing these homes.

Thank you so much for this video!! I grew up in on the Eastside of Detroit and walked passed a few of these homes everyday. Now I live in Groton, CT and every time someone ask me where am I from I say Detroit and these looks that I cannot explain. People call Detroit dead, nasty, and a few even had the nerve to say it should be completely torn down. I love my city and believe that if we all pull together the city can flourish as a whole!

Thanks for watching this video, and for your comment. I have heard all of the negative comments on Detroit, and I can only assume these people have never been to Detroit to see it has lots of beauty. These items of beauty could be the DIA, the historic subdivisions shown here, the many museums, beautifully restored hotels and mansions, the very cool downtown, the restored Fox Theater, the Fisher Building and the many other things like this. Those people who say bomb, bulldoze or tear it down are truly speaking from a position of ignorance.

I agree with you. I am Jewish and I was born and raised in Detroit's Black Bottom. I am very old, but I know the truth about Detroit and its downfall. I watch the Detroit City Planners and Managers do it. The biggest reasons for the Detroit's downfall, were all of its's Republicans mayors. With the worst of them being Albert Cobo. Cobo was so racist, that his hatered towards African Americans and non-whites/ non-Christens. Led him to tear down Black Bottom and Paridise Valley. Costing the County and the City, hundereds of millions in tax revenue and displacement cost. Detroit never recovered from those act of Cobo. They tried to coverup the finance damage over the years, put the debt only grew. To recoup the tax revenue loses, they increased property and income taxes, and increase the cost of doing business in Detroit. They continued that practice until they drove businesses and people away from Detroit. Black Botom was not a slum or a ghetto, until the Republican politicans started using the area as a political weapon. They only allowed the Whites that own those properties in Black Bottom, to become slum and ghetto lords by not enforcing the laws of having them maintain their properties. During elections, the GOP would send persons to Black Bottom, to take photos of the area. To show the area's conditiion and use it in their elections. Showing the slum conditions that African Americans was living in, as well as promising to clean up the slums..., if they were elected. Knowing good and well, they were never going to do it, because it was too good of a political tool, to get rid of. In Black Bottom, only 17% of the properties were own by African Americans. Because the "Red linning and loan restrictions" prevented them from owning much of the properties there.

If you were homeless, you could buy a $100 house, but most homeless people don't have $100. All you have to do is move in, repair the broken windows, doors and locks, remove the peeling lead paint hazard, put in a toilet and kitchen sink, add some new plumbing, add some new light fixtures, and everything else that has been stripped from the house.

Nomis2779 I live an hour from Detroit and have been there well over 100 times both day and night. I love going there! Detroit has so much to offer that most people never know about. Detroit's art museum, the Detroit Institute of Arts has art work from the 1500s. The total value of the art as appraised by Christies in New York is over 800 million.

eddiebatmv I grew up in Hamtramck. Two blocks away from Detroit. I owned a restaurant with my father for 13 years downtown. I've always been in and out of Detroit my whole life. I've been to the DIA, Fox Theater, I've eaten in Greektown numerous times. I still go to all the sporting events downtown. I'm a Detroiter for life no matter where I go. I always wear my D hat when I go out of town. I live in Clinton Township, about 30 minutes from Detroit.

I love Detroit's Thanksgiving Day Parade. I live 60 miles from Detroit and have driven there a few times for it. It's a top notch production in every way and really well worth the drive. On Thanksgiving Day, over 100,000 people will gather downtown from all over south eastern Michigan to see the parade. Lots of excitement in the air and smiles in the crowd.

A really great clip of a fantastic city! I travelled across France and Spain with two Detroiters in 1976. Listening to them talk about their hometown made a big impression on me. It seemed like a place of unlimited opportunity. I hope those two did well and wish their city the best of luck. Things always look the darkest before the dawn. Detroit will rise again!

I am familiar with several of those homes. Definitely not GP. They're homes in Sherwood Forest, Indian Village, Homes in Boston-Edison district(where I was born and raised and we still own that house) to homes between 6 & 7 mile off of Livernois(Pinhurst to name one of the streets). This is awesome. Don't pay any attention to the negative comments. Keep doing wonderful videos like this!!! LOVE IT

Thanks for asking this question! Some have private security firms that patrol within the subdivisions that are paid for by a very strong homeowners association. The property owners take great care of their home, and the values for the most part are high compared to other areas in Detroit. Many have highly involved neighborhood watch programs. Neighborhood associations that set strict guidelines on many issues for that neighborhood. Empty homes are watch very carefully to avoid looting.

Thanks for your comment. I have shown my wife her former childhood home on Berkshire Street using Google maps. Her family sold that home is 1985 after her father retired from the Detroit Fire Department. She was really happy to see the house again, and pleased that the owners have maintained it after 28 years, and even improved it. Its sad that so many people think Detroit has only run down homes, when the fact is there are so many nice areas and homes. Please share this video with others.

I live just South of Detroit in Windsor Canada and I can tell you that this is not a faked video. Although there are some pretty dangerous and run down areas in Detroit there are still really nice neighbourhoods like these that aren't run down and dangerous at all. Detroit is starting to come back. The new mayor Mike Duggan seems to be bringing new life into the city again. Currently they're building a new light rail system up Woodward in Downtown Detroit and a new Red Wings Arena has just started with funding from the Ilitch family and from the city. They're also building a crap load of new buildings around it for shopping, eating and for commercial and residential space too. Also they're starting to knock down a lot of abandoned buildings. I have a feeling this Friday night though the city will be getting a lot of help with demolishing abandoned buildings if you get what I'm saying.

Thanks for you comment! You are correct. These are very stable Detroit neighborhoods. Palmer Woods' Subdivision first home was built in 1915 and has 289 homes in it. The largest is the Bishop Gallagher Mansion with 62 rooms, and 40,000 Sq. Ft. built in 1925. Making it the largest house in Detroit. Sherwood Forest contains 435 homes with the oldest from 1922. Most being built 1920s and mid 1930s. Both areas sought after and stable subdivisions. Most homes are over 90 years old.

Great video. Would be nice to see the nice homes in Not so nice areas. There are many homeowners that take pride in their homes all over the city.

Thank you for your kind comments. This is only a short video of the many, many beautiful homes and well kept neighborhoods that are in within the city of Detroit. If you would like, please share this video with your friends. Thanks again!

It is a pretty cool song, and I thought it was fitting for this video. Fox 2 in Detroit plays it sometimes as segue (segway) music in their morning show. Thanks for stopping by and for your comment.

Thanks for doing this Eddie there are many of us out here who are interested in Detroit. I was born there in 1960. It would be really nice if you do another film to have a subtitle in front of some of these homes announcing the streets there on so we would know where they are.

Their are lots of beautiful homes in Detroit. Lots of gated homes and homes pushed far back off the streets. Their all so beautiful. Just wish that my hometown gets the proper recognition because it is a home to lots of GOOD PEOPLE.

There are 10 thumbs down on this video. Can anyone tell me what is so negative about this? I don't see anything bad about this video. I am sure people are surprised about these homes. I am giving it a thumbs up!

Thanks again for your videos. I grew up next to Indian Village and still live here. People watch too much TV and think Detroit is such a horrible place to live and it's not. Im a 41 yr old black male and I do just fine. This city does not have criminal running around everywhere killing ppl. Yes we have crime but we also have a lot of ppl like myself that are law abiding citizens. This is great place to live and it's getting better.

You're right. This is only 8 minutes of the many thousands of beautiful, well kept homes in Detroit. There are so much more that people who have never been to Detroit really don't know about. There are people who think they know everything about Detroit and have become an authority by watching a 5 minute video of the worst areas of the city. They are sadly misinformed. Detroit has its bas areas, but it also has beautiful museums, a great symphony orchestra, a thriving reborn downtown & more

Thanks. I love Detroit too. There is so much to see and do there. So many people who have never been to Detroit only see these ghetto videos of Detroit and think that's all there is. Not true. The Detroit Institute of Arts has a 16th century painting by Flemish master Pieter Bruegel, whose painting, "The Wedding Dance" is valued at $100 million. And that's only a start. Detroit has culture, elegant dining, beautiful neighborhoods, professional sports teams, great museums and much more.

Beautiful homes. I used to live in Dearborn Heights, (Detroit suburb), and my folks had friends that lived in an area like this. I'm glad to see that all of Detroit isn't in ruin.

Thanks, katty2trips, every home is very unique in Detroit. Do you notice how almost all of the home shown in this video are made of brick. If you are from the Detroit area, you probably also know there is a section in downtown called Bricktown, where all the building are made of brick. Thanks for sharing your comment and passing this video on.

Yes there are people living in these homes. If you notice the windows are not boarded up, the lawns are cut and there are cars in the driveways. I would think on the lower end of the homes pictured, the price might be in the $25,000 range, and in the upper range on the executive homes a price of $700,000 to $800,000. Many of the executive homes have many elaborate features and craftsmanship from a bygone era. These prices are in a low real estate market pricing that's happening right now.

Thanks for your comment. Detroit has some very beautiful homes and neighborhoods. Please share this video with your friends if you will. Detroit could use a shot in the arm right now. For some reason, people always seem to migrate towards the ghetto videos of Detroit, and overlook the great side of this city.

People can say all they want about the people of Detroit. But when a tragedy strikes, or a family needs help, it's the people of Detroit who are first in line to help. I know this for a fact. I live an hour from Detroit and watch Detroit TV news every day and see this often.

Thank you very much for showing this. My home is 2 doors from one of the homes you showed. I wish mine had been on there also but, oh well. There are so many beautiful areas in the city that will never be shown or recognized because people don't want to know what's right about the city, just what's wrong. Yes, there are bad areas and crime but name me ONE major metropolitan city that doesn't have the same problems.

Thanks for your kind words. I really appreciate them, and the fact that many people have viewed this video. I can't believe how it has soared in view counts in the last week. This is of course is due to the viewers like you! My goal is to make only positive videos of Detroit for KZbin. There is enough negativity on here already. Everyone can contribute a little to making Detroit even greater than it already is. Please share this video with your friends, and thanks again.

Every major American city has its bad neighborhoods and Detroit is no exception. If you go there looking for problems, you will find them. I live an hour from Detroit and go there both day and night for many different things. Detroit has many great museums, a beautiful downtown, new baseball stadium, new football stadium, and a great symphony orchestra. School groups from around Michigan and Ohio visit Detroit on a daily basis and have no problem.

Those are Detroit homes. I just came back from Detroit and the midtown near WSU is shaping up very nicely. However, there's still a lot of "outer" neighborhoods that need tending to.
