what a joke. This lawyer is an embarrassment to herself. The court clerk tells her she can't have a zoom conference. She never submits a proper request through the court's website as required, and all of the sudden the judge who had nothing to do with her not having a zoom conference is racist. I bet this attorney probably mouthed off and disrespected the judge in the hearing and got a bad sentence for her client because she sux as an attorney and now wants to blame everyone and everything for her failures. She is just trying to play the race card to win a settlement most likely because her law practice is not going so well. This attorney has even accused her own clients of being racist and treating her like a slave. She has a serious chip on her shoulder and probably thinks stop lights are racist because they turn red on her. I hope she gets the mental health treatment she so desperately needs.

She does sound persuasive, but when you boil this down to just the facts, a _judicial clerk_ either miscommunicated with or was racist to an attorney; then a judge accepted the guilty plea of that attorney's client and sentenced him to two years probation (instead of five years incarceration), but declined to expunge his record of the three felonies to which he plead guilty. It's irresponsible of a news station to run a segment based on those facts that's only two-and-a-half minutes and framed as "white judge discriminates against black attorney battling cancer, makes attorney's black client pay by rejecting plea deal for minor infraction and imposing harsh sentence instead."

Does her client have a history of outbursts??? Does she? How about failures to appear or contact with witnesess?? Has he shown up potentially under the influence? These things make a difference. Secondly, all sentencings are not the same. One defendant may have an agreement to pay fines, report for community service within a time frame. Another may be immediately incarcerated. Perhaps this attorney is just rude, unprepared or unprofessional.. I've seen that. Secondly, zoom appearances are a quite new invention mostly for public health reasons. It's not necessarily for the convenience of counsel. If the judge wants a defendant and counsel in person they are required. Period. If she could not fulfill her duties then the attorney should have contacted the court. This attorney leapt to putting words in the judge's mouth awfully quick. The judge may have a basis for civil suit.
@johnharling52468 ай бұрын
A bad workman blames his tools... This lawyer probably promised her client something she could not deliver so blames the judge. The judge of each court sets the rules for zoom many will allow many court appearances by zoom but the vast majority of judges now insist that it must be in person when it comes to sentencing or violation of bond or probation. It was not the judge that refused to allow this lawyer to Zoom in it was her staff @ 00:49 and I assumed they did so because they were not made fully aware of the lawyers condition. The judge was elected in 2016 so I assume the lawyer is able to produce plenty of other examples of racism from this judge .... oh wait she can't.

All this after a judge in Hamtramck was just publicly shamed for scolding an immigrant man with health issues about his overgrown yard. I saw that case about the immigrant man dying of cancer whose lawn was overgrown. Made me sick how the judge treated him. She wanted to give him jail time because the neighbours had to LOOK at an eyesore. I get it - as a home owner in a nice area, you don't want to live with people who can't keep their lawn in order ... but jail time? It's so ridiculous. Precedent demands she accept the deal- unless she knows something the lawyers dont, or if the deal was outrageous compared to the crime- either too harsh or not enough- at which time she would put it on the court record as her reason for denying the deal.
