This video gives me such happy feelings, Detroit was and still is the American ideal: modern, progressive, integrated, urban, it's such an amazing city.

Such an intelligent song. I love michigan and illinois, the symbolism and history behind the lyrics is just great!

I love Detroit with all my heart. Maybe it's a little sappy of me, but this video brings tears to my eyes. It's beautiful.

I lived in Detroit from August 2000 to January 2002. I lived right on Washington Ave across from St. Aloysius. I saw the worst and the best of the city , but the best stand out for me. My neighbors were the best I've ever had. I got one of my cats in a pet shop on Cass Ave. I was teaching at Wayne State, and professionally, that was the best time of my life. It wasn't perfect, there was much to be sad about. What has happened to Detroit is what is happening to the whole nation.

I keep coming back to this video to listen to this song, I think you've done a great job of it. I'm totally convinced that this is the Detroit that Sufjan was trying to capture with the music. In spite of the lyrics that speak of the future, the song just FEELS like it's about the past to me.

Detroit is booming, the economic slump that people mocked it for spread over the entire country, the people of Detroit got a head start on recovering from the Reagan/Bush/Bush economy. I wanted to move there but it's thriving so hard that I'm priced out of housing.
