Garrett is an absolute stud, but I think trading for him would not only cost several assets, but would also hinder Detroit's ability to extend their own players that they need to extend (Gibbs, LaPorta, Branch, Hutch, KJ, etc).

Some one else will offer multiple firsts bring him in resign him long term. It’s not really feasible. Detroit needs to focus on Edge rushers first and second round.

Who do you want to lose hutch or multiples of laporta, joesph, branch, Jameson, Gibbs to keep under cap. Want to be the 49ers. That as soon as a couple injury’s hit they become trash. This might be a hot take but I think Z-Smith and Hutch on each end will eat a lot more than people are thinking. Our fully healthy line (at least as it currently stands with players) with Smith, DJ reader, Alim Mcneil, and hutch I have full confidence in these 4 players when lined up together. Each one has their own different skillset and in total compliment each other. Yes Myles Garrett would be awesome and super overpowered with hutch. I have a real aversion to signing guys who're not upside players to huge contracts which can really put you in cap space "purgatory". I remember that was the Lions for many years and one year we had a total of 12 players who were drawing a paycheck from the Lions who weren't even on the team.

The Indianapolis Colts had DEs Freeny and Mathis. Those DEs were fierce to watch. They never had the power in the middle ever, but the DEs played lights out. If the Detroit Lions get a stud opposite of Aidan Hutchinson, the D line will improve exponentially.
@TimShantry
@TimShantry 2 күн бұрын
Brad can trade those two #1s (2025 & 2026) for a top 10 #1 this year and get a stud DE. I agree Hutch and Smith are more than an adequate tandem. Just like Smith was more effective with the Browns when he was opposite Garrett. He’s not a #1 beast, but a very serviceable #2 while whoever we draft for DE learns the ropes and subs in. Then let Smith go in 2026 to conserve cap space. We can’t get hamstrung salary-wise in the coming years and risk losing our current young thoroughbreds in 2-3 years due to an inherited bloated contract. I’d love a Garrett/Hutch tandem as bookends, but at what cost in a couple of years. It stinks of Javi Baez 2.0…caveat emptor!

In the past, our first round draft pick held a lot more value than it does this year, obviously, so I wouldn't be opposed of trading this year's first round in order to bring in a proven player, especially with the position the franchise is in to win now
@namegoeshere3838
@namegoeshere3838 3 күн бұрын
YES!!! Make the trade and give up the next 2 years of round one picks! Could also give them a few good rookies, Antoine Green for one since they are rebuilding. Craig Reynolds or the younger RB Jefferson. Last franchise trade got us Jared Goff. Then it's been 80% draft picks but we have a top 3 offense. 2 incredible rushing machines like Hutch and Garrett drops the passer clock to 2 seconds or less on most plays, nearly impossible to find an open receiver. The rest of our defense will be healthy and with this trade a top 5 defense instantly. That's a better team than any of the Patriots Superbowl years. The rookies in the wide receiver room can go as we will be getting Cooper Kupp, which is opposite side Amon Ra, and with Jameson we then have the best receiving trio, best running back duo, best offensive line, best QB. The secondary will be fine, especially since nobody will be getting balls thrown their way with the best pass rushing duo in football

I’m not one for giving up multiple assets for a single player. But in this case, Garrett has requested a trade, and it’s worth at least looking into it. The reality is, multiple teams want this guy, he is one of the best in the league at his position, and his salary is not crazy for the next two years; it’s not going to be cheap to get him. I am with you, Craig, I’d rather not do the deal.

It's a no brainer. Last year I was beating the table to stick to the "draft and develop" game plan. We're in a different phase now. We have the foundation of young players that will be getting paid... we don't need more young players who are gonna take a year or 2 to get their feet under them. I'd give up a 2025 1st rounder, and a 2026 1st and 2nd rounder for Garrett... and I wouldn't even think twice. Garrett's contract would be very friendly for Detroit. It's relatively low risk. You could bail after 2026 if it doesn't work out and still pay your young guys.

Trade Jamo, the 28th, and a 1st next year in my opinion. I think it could take a little less than that maybe the 3rd next seaosn we just got back) and yes Hooker too with that 3rd. I would want to see that new defense for one season and go for it all. I do not think Jamo will stay in Detroit after next season. I do not think the Lions will pay him and I do not think he wants to stay here. He is a show-boat type of player and I do not fault him for wanting the max salary, so he will not stay here for a dollar less than the market would give him. P.S. - Lions have a very tough schedule next season and we can't expect them to do what they did this year without a drastic addition. Garrett is a drastic addiiton. We do not have the secondary that can hold us in the big game, but that pass rush would make it be so. If not no worries, get the best DE for us at 28th and shore up the O-line

NOBODY ASKS THIS: what if we give up multiple picks and a player for Miles, and Miles suffers a career ending injury? That would set the franchise back another half decade of playing catchup. I not dead set against the trade, but it's risky and costly. We'd basically be giving up "the next" Gibbs, "the next" Hutch, and one of our current high caliber players. Not worth it at all. Look at what Brad does with 1st round picks. I'm not interested in giving those picks up for one player.

I would trade Goff and a top pick. Then draft a qb and sign Stafford back to a 1 year or two year deal.

No, we shouldn't. Let's just focus on the draft.

Hassan Reddick would be productive and much cheaper. I wouldn't be upset if the Lions did trade for him. I'm not a fan of his cap hit
