@brandonbaty22917 ай бұрын
Can I ask why you really wanted an Edge? I don’t understand this opinion from some Lions fans. We have a lot of solid Edge rushers and depth pieces. Our pass rush struggled last year because we didnt have anyone other than Hutch and Alim who teams had to double and triple team. We signed Reader who commands doubles on EVERY snap (and was the biggest reason Trey Hendrickson got 17.5 sacks last year). Plus, having better DBs makes it so opposing QBs cant just let it off to wide open receivers (coverage sacks are going to happen a lot more frequently). James Houston was a BEAST in his rookie year and was injured all of last year. Davenport is a proven edge rusher with versatility when healthy and we aren’t relying on him for every snap. We picked up the best defensive player in the entire CFL to see how HIS game translates. This particular draft didn’t have very good edge prospects out of the top 3 and there was very little chance that ANY edge player we drafted (barring Latu, Verse, or Dallas Turner) were going to immediately be better than who we already have on the team. So what was the major hard-on some fans who were freaking out and claiming Brad Holmes “blew the draft” because we didn’t target an edge rusher?? I don’t get it. Please someone explain it to me. The opinion makes zero sense to me.

@@brandonbaty2291it’s just that never satisfied mentality with them lol it really is the same thing I want an edge I want this I want that I want those! Not even seeing the signings in free agency before the draft all they do is listen to what everyone else says and jump on board with it! They don’t know how to think for themselves and it’s very very very very annoying and you want to go off on them but then you try to educate them. You need all phases of the defense to work to get sacks being that there’s not enough super elite guys on the team. They don’t understand that and I’m sure they just look at just numbers only but having a great mix of players coming in fresh alone keeps the wear and tear of those that get injured down some while still being able to pressure the qb. I like an appreciate what was done and I’m just waiting to see how they can come together it looks like a more well rounded team that I have ever seen and there’s still players that can get picked up camp or preseason hasn’t begun yet and soon as these new guys start balling they will swear they were happy with the picks then as they are now! He was given the #18 jersey which is like being the team captain. So that dude is a team first player. He could easily have sat out the bowl game and got healthy to get ready for the draft but he didn't. He can be rotational along with McNeal. Those two guys are the penetrators on the DL. Overall, I like the draft. Obviously Arnold and Rakeshaw make a solid CB room even better and give us guys for the future. Time will tell for our 4th round guys, especially Manu. He's a roll the dice on his measurables. But Mohagony and Wingo are steals. Mohagony has the potential to be a starter in the future. And Wingo, if not a starter, can be situational pass rusher for us. Perhaps it'll allow Paschal and Cominsky to play more outside.

Don’t sleep on Vaki, he will be a special teams ace for a decade. He’s the definition of a gritty football player who can line up at multiple positions and be a contributor. His selection allows the team to carry one less RB on the active roster that you can use for another position group you may want more depth at and is a good rotational/depth piece at safety. This to me is a team building selection focused on special teams and roster flexibility…..was expecting them to draft a kicker late even though we know Campbell doesn’t like using kickers, at least bring in some younger talent to compete at the position.

Last year Mahogany played 862 snaps at RG - allowed zero sacks and 7 hurries. I see him maybe taking up the slack from losing Jackson's ability to pull and pave a pathway for our RB's - if he makes the team. He needs coaching in NFL-type basics such as footwork. His knock is he's 'only' 6' 3" - which would make him good at pulling - can hide in with the tall guys.
