A quick tour of the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center in Detroit Michigan USA.
The Renaissance Center (also known as the GM Renaissance Center and nicknamed the RenCen) is a group of seven connected skyscrapers in Downtown Detroit, Michigan, United States. The Renaissance Center complex is on the Detroit International Riverfront and is owned by General Motors as its world headquarters. The central tower, the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center, is the second tallest all-hotel skyscraper in the Western Hemisphere.

I’m from Southern CA and stood at the Marriott here a couple of times. Had a great experience every time and the Renaissance Center is pretty cool in my opinion. I was talking with some security guards(old timers) and they had lots of good old stories about Detroit and I love hearing about the old days from the people who actually lived it. I was attending the Movement music festival so that’s what brought me to Detroit. All and all I have nothing bad to say about Detroit & it’s people. Everyone was nice, courteous, helpful & I hope to visit Detroit again one day.

So sad to see John Portman's great lobby empty of people and empty of all the beautiful trees and plants and fountains. His great lobby's were meant to be indoor gardens so that one felt like they were outdoors. He also had special color schemes for his buildings that made them touch your heart. Today all I see is industrial gray, black and white. How tragic that there is no color in the buildings anymore. I suggest you watch the Renaissance Center videos of when it was built.

The spaces are empty .. but just before noon .. a thousand workers come down to the food court to dine ar the many reataurants in the open space seating areas. Its amazing to see workers of all types. Super friendly.

I remember going to the summit in the early 80s. All the city big shots were there. Times have changed . Much like shopping malls. She's a beautiful dinosaur. No one has the cash like they use to. 😪

Wow almost identical to the Bonaventure in LA! Such a shame that these beautiful plazas by John Portman aren’t busy, they should be packed with people. The change in culture has unfortunately changed how people socialize (plus Covid).

I stayed there in like 2003. My family and I stayed there and went to the Detroit Auto Show. It wasn't as desolate but they had just done a 300 million dollar renovation or something like that. I remember calling room service asking for a tooth brush and when the guy came up and gave it to me, I said I forgot but needed something else. He threw a childish temper tantrum and started complaining about how he had to go up 50 floors and would have to go down and back up again... as if that makes a difference in how long his shift is. All before I ever had a chance to even tip him. I remember being 16 and thinking how pathetic it is that a grown ass man is complaining about having to his job and going to any floor only requires just standing while an elevator takes him up or down. You guessed it (because you hear about it from absolutely anyone guiding you in Detroit whether it's a cab/Uber driver or anyone else) he was black. And rude. Guys like him are the reason so many people don't want to deal with the city of Detroit and probably why they still get almost no tourist and the city is in shambles. Depressing city.

Detroit made Time Magazine’s top 50 places to visit in the world recently and tourism there is booming now. Are you really gonna let one bad person form your opinion about a whole city?? Wow! I travel a lot and there are rotten apples in every city. What a joke of a comment. At least downtown Detroit is very clean and nice but doesn’t have a homeless problem like so many other cities. Dude is talking about a bad experience from over 20 years ago. Really!?? On top of that you make it known that you’re definitely a racist joke. There are rude people in literally every race of people. I’m sure Detroit will be just fine if you don’t ever visit there again smh
