I grew up on the east side of Detroit. A nice area. It's a F'ing war zone today. No excuses. Detroit is a sh*t town that truly reflects the people that inhabit it. Even all the nice videos of Downtown are deceiving. Probably half of the area is uninhabited or vacant.

🌺 I was there July 29, 2023, and I fell in love with Detroit!!! (From Atlanta) I’ve been there many times, NOBODY ever told me about or took me to the Ford Museum!!! The full size trains, the vintage cars, the Kennedy limo and other presidential cars were AWESOME! So much to see and love. The city is packed full of goodies…I’ll be back next year!!! I’m in AWE of your lovely and lively city! 🤗😎♥️♥️♥️♥️

Dude Detroit is terrible this dude is trying to put a nice shiny coat of paint on a turd. I'm originally from Philadelphia that's my hometown right and people will say the downtown area of Philadelphia is nice of course it's nice, that's all the government cares about is fixing up the downtown areas of these cities, the rest of Philadelphia just like the rest of Detroit is shit. In Baltimore they only care about the nice downtown part with Camden yards and the Baltimore Ravens stadium if you go outside of that the city is a dumpster fire. The government and politicians only care about the downtown area of these cities they can give a rat's ass about the neighborhood surrounding the downtown.

LA transplant who's lived in Corktown for a few years. Detroit's definitely an underrated city on its way back up. but in all fairness to anyone potentially looking to move there to start a new life soon, Detroit is still light years away from being something like a Chicago or Boston or NYC. it's more on par with cities Cleveland, Minneapolis, Columbus, etc. the place just feels like...half deserted and littered with empty paid parking lots. i'm sure in 10 years, it's gonna be poppin.

No doubt, you can't go through what Detroit's gone through, and expect it to be on a par with the big boys... It's a shell of its former self. BUT - it absolutely was second to none in the 40s, 50s, and 60s. Vibrant, happening, with building after building spectacular in their architecture, unique, with an incredible music culture. Not too many places in America with a major waterway you can see a different country directly across from.

I love Detroit, too, and appreciate your enthusiasm for it. I lived downtown for 30 years during the so-called bad years, the '70s and '80s, and it was interesting and fun even then. It went through hell, but it never did "die" -- and now is coming back at an astonishing rate. I think the bankruptcy in 2013 shook everyone, and forced the city's leaders to decide whether Detroit would or would not have a future. They -- and the citizens -- decided it would. And now it does.

Detroit is awesome. It had a lot of green space for a big city. It actually gets dark at night( unlike some bigger cities), has a number of organic and coop farms within the city, and has real heart. We have the world best pizza, as well as the absolute best Lebanese food outside of Lebanon. Detroit has almost every ethnic group and is a short drive to beautiful rural areas. We have a State park in the city and a really cool riverfront. It’s the warmest part of a very cold state. Some say we are going to be the new Cali. We’ll see. Additionally the whole state of Michigan is one of Americas best kept secrets. Within an hour of Detroit we can be on a white sand beach at one of the Great Lakes and it’s only a five hour drive to Bigfoot-type wilderness in the upper peninsula.
