There is a plan in Detroit to possibly expand the People Mover. The Detroit Transportation Corporation says that it could expand to three major spots in the downtown area, as well as Corktown and Midtown. Robert Cramer, general manager of the corporation, joined CBS News Detroit to talk about what's next for the People Mover.

Vancouver operates the EXACT same system as Detroit. They were both inaugurated in the 1980s. Vancouver's rapid transit network has continuously expanded since opening and is now US/Canada's 4th busiest train network, surpassing the legacy systems of Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia. It's insane Detroit has such advanced rapid transit technology only to not use it to its full potential

its weird to me that detroit has this advanced metro tech that is being used as a tourist "monorail", its such overkill for a single way circle system. It needs to be expanded into a real metro. Alstom makes modern trains for this tech, they need to offshoot the downtown core and make a real metro. Vancouver, Kuala lumpur and Osaka all use the same tech, there are so many people and companies who could be brought on to expand the lines.

This 💯 The People Mover needs to be expanded into a citywide metro, maybe going to Ferndale as an exception outside the city. The QLine should be kept compact in areas closer to Downtown.

Extend the Q-line, mainly following the old streetcars lines, though not as far, or with as many tributaries as in the old days (small and ever dwindling population simply doesn't warrant it). Q-line down Woodward to eight mile VERY NECESSARY, for many reasons. Q-line down Michigan Ave. to train station. E. Jefferson Ave. to say the Jeffersonian Apartment area. MUCH needed. These two would only be if Detroit doesn't continue to lose population... (Q-line possibly just past Eastern Market on Gratiot) (Q-line possibly down a short stretch of Grand River to Woodbridge area?) Regarding the People Mover, it's an impractical one-way ride to nowhere. That thing was a novelty from its very beginning. Remove it altogether. Now, it might be realistic to revive some of the actual streetcar routes which once ran in and through the core downtown. Encouraging a realistic streetcar transit system (not the People Mover), at least in some parts of Detroit, would discourage old building demolition => parking lots, and would encourage the much needed new blood to this city. High crime + no mass transit = necessity of cars...which are vandalized = HIGH AUTO INSURANCE RATES. Nobody, from anywhere else, wants to deal with that mess.

I feel the people mover should be more focused on the Metro Area. While the Q Line should focus more on being a Link from the Metro Area to the suburbs

😂 and who is going to pay for this? The People Mover is a tourist attraction. It'll never be on par with ChiTowns L-Train. Thank God for that.....

vancouver uses the same metro tech at detroit. yet has 100k more daily ridership then the Chicago L. Kuala Lumpur also uses the same tech. Yes it is a tourist attraction now. But it could be easily expanded into something more interesting.

The tech behind the People Mover is actually every high tech. A linear motor light metro which if designed correctly could be a great benefit for Detroit’s comeback story. I would suggest they build a separate system using the same tech keeping the loop line as is and building a separate system that connects to the loop.

i love that people think theyre safe being in an area where they could literally walk for 10 minutes and suddenly be in gang land and as if criminals didnt have cars or go to where hipster tourists go. but i agree, if you only get mugged say once a year thats pretty safe for detroit standards.@@lestersloan2758
