I never get tired of watching 'The Bad Boys' Detroit Pistons. Those two championship teams (back to back) are indeed great champions! Isiah Thomas, Joe Dumars, Mark Aguirre, Vinnie (The Microwave) Johnson, Bill Laimbeer, Dennis Rodman, John Salley, James Edwards... Those teams were extremely watchable.

As a kid my father rented “Pure Pistons,” which is the name of this documentary (I’m sure as a Pistons fan yourself you already knew), from Blockbuster. My friends and I were big time Bad Boys Pistons fans (I went to all star weekend in Chicago in 2020 and even got into a few lighthearted heated debates with Bulls Fans who tried disrespecting our guy Isiah who like them is from Chicago….they’re so ungrateful 😂😂😂). Anyhow… my friends and I would watched this on VHS so much and especially the Terry Porter part you’re talking about, we’d rewind that so much just to laugh at (we’d even pause it and talk smack to the TV screen as if he could hear us 😂) that part of the tape would mess up.

It's interesting to me before the NBA got rid of the 2-3-2 Finals format a few years ago the Pistons is the only franchise to win 3 straight roads games('90 Pistons) and win 3 straight home games ('04 Pistons) on the way to winning the title.
@jerrym1218
@jerrym1218 Жыл бұрын
What I find interesting about the 88-89 Pistons and 03-04 Pistons is the fact that they both had to go through the top LA Lakers Dynasties of the 80’s and early 2000’s at the very last round in the Finals, as if they found themselves against the strong final boss to win, and they shocked the world in both those occasions. The Detroit Bad Boys Pistons crew of 1988 through 1990 & Detroit two tower Pistons crew of 2003-2004 deserve so much more credit for doing things that no other team could easily try to do.

#1 I cannot believe this is 33-34 years old. #2 Weird seeing the Palace, now a development. RIP Palace, JLA, and Silverdome. #3 80s-90s Detroit teams were next level overlooked (besides the Wings) 3 of the 4 all won their respective championships. Two of em, repeats. #4 I absolutely LOVE that George Blaha is the only "voice of the Pistons" still, and has been as long as Ive been consciously aware of the Pistons. Easily 40 years. This video brings so much memories to the front. The Worm, Spider, Microwave, Zeke, Bad Boys, DeeDee Troit BASKET-BAAAALL, the 'Stones.

After dropping their only playoff game at the Palace that year, the Pistons went to Portland, a place where they hadn't won since 1974, and blanked the Blazers 3-0. Portland failed to win a single finals game at home. In game 5, the Blazers were up 7 with 2 minutes to go. Drexler fouled out and the Blazers did not score another point, Detroit scored the final 9 points and took their second consecutive title. Can't make that sh*t up.

Isiah doesn't get much credit, but he was a *baaaaaad* man. Best small PG in NBA history in my opinion. Magic probably gets the overall nod due to his size, but Zeke was a problem for the league before he got hurt. Loved this team - so tough and resilient. One burning question I have - Detroit had a great run from 1986-1990, getting experience in the 86 playoffs, almost taking the Celts to the brink in 87, losing in 7 to the Lakers in 88, defeating a crippled Lakers in 89, and a strong Blazers team in 1990, four games to one. Oh, and they beat the Bulls 4-1, the 4-2, them 4-3 each season... So... HOW the Heck, in ONE year did the Pistons who, having an intact roster - and beat the somewhat younger Blazers the year before... get SWEPT by the Bulls in 1991 ECF?? What happened, roster wise, strategy-wise? Any ideas?
@Rodanguirus
@Rodanguirus 4 ай бұрын
A) The Bulls were getting better and better. Like you pointed out, they pushed Detroit more and more with each season. B) Isiah underwent wrist surgery in the middle of that season, and he was never consistently the same after that. Early in the season, the Pistons kept up with the Bulls, both head-to-head and in the standings. But both slipped away after Isiah was hurt. C) Losing Mahorn to the '89 expansion draft. Mahorn didn't light up a stat sheet, but he was right up there with Laimbeer as one of the two most physical guys on a team that played VERY physical. Without him taking and dishing his share of the punishment, the team wasn't built to go the same distances they had the previous seasons.
@hggfu
@hggfu 4 ай бұрын
The pistons were probably mentally and physically drained. After 4 years of going to the ECF takes a tole on the body. Not to mention the league started enforcing flagrant fouls. The Bulls and MJ matured and gotten better. MJ started trusting his teammates more was the biggest factor. Isiah was hurt in the middle of the season as well. The Pistons had a great run and I wish their run would be celebrated more. They were the epitome of what you call a TEAM.

@@jbl7946I always say the same thing about the series between the Chicago Bulls and New York Knicks in the 1994 playoffs during game 6 where the Bulls were very close to winning and closing out the Knicks at Chicago Stadium, but that one very messed up questionable call by the referee Hue Hollands that literally was a called foul as one of the Knicks was shooting a three pointer near the closing seconds of the game, it was a three shot foul that drastically altered the course of the game in favor of the Knicks coming back and winning the game to stay alive and head back to New York for game 7 where the Bulls lost, even though the game was still close. The Knicks definitely were going to lose in game 6 back in Chicago, if it wasn’t for that messed up three shot foul that was called on Scottie Pippen, and if you look at the replay of that play, you clearly see that Pippen didn’t even touch the Knicks player that was shooting the ball from the three point line in desperation. I think Scottie might even have tipped the ball and almost blocked that shot as he rushed over to try and stop it with a block. The 1994 NBA Finals would have been very different, and so would the Eastern Conference finals because the Indiana Pacers were next in line waiting for the winner of the Bulls vs. Knicks series. I’m not sure if the 1994 Chicago Bulls would have beat the 1994 Indiana Pacers, or even the actual 1994 Championship placeholders The Houston Rockets, but those would have been damn good series battles, and the Bulls may have 4 peated and got that chip without Michael Jordan, which would have been very impressive. The Chicago Bulls in 1994 were still a very good team too as well.

Their rivalry has history. Isaiah Thomas and Jordan had a gripe in one of the All-Star games and from that point they didn't like each other. Then when the Bulls finally beat the Pistons in the playoffs and the Pistons walked off the court and didn't show good sportsmanship that did it for Jordan. He had Isaiah Thomas blackballed from the 92' Dream Team.

@@marcusjones1432 It's much, much, much, much simpler than that. Isaiah is from Chicago like MJ, Isaiah sent MJ home 3 years ago to watch the playoffs from his sofa it is that simple. For your information the celtics walked off the court the year before not shaking the piston's hands, that's the way men played back in the day, players wouldn't give each other blowjobs and tweet about it and roll around with each other's jerseys on after playoff losses. @@halfshot253 you must not remember or be aware of how much hype Shaq came into the league with. “Shaq attack” was the motto everywhere and his size 21 Reebok Show was displayed at shoe stores everywhere. Magic was lied to about Isiah spreading rumors in order to get him to agree with not wanting Isiah just as a shield for Jordan and his camp not wanting Isiah (Bird with a bad back was old and didn’t care…Pippen and Malone had no juice whatsoever…in that time they were like Anthony Davis and Karl Anthony-Towns saying they didn’t want a player on the team when only LeBron’s decision is truly who matters)

Isiah was an asshole; no one wants to play with an asshole. Jordan said it: If Isiah is on the team, I am not going. Isiah or Jordan? Organizers chose Jordan. No one wants to play with an asshole.

Who beat everyone on the dream team; Isaiah Thomas. The hate was in by David Stern, Dick Ebersol. Dick was head of NBC; they just signed a contract with the NBA. Detroit was going to three peat, but the nba needed Jordan to run the league Asap. The series in 91, was the worst official games ever. Detroit couldn’t buy a foul. The merger was too valuable to not have MJ not win again. The two starting guards should have been Isaiah and Jordan. Magic was retired, he didn’t even play the previous year. Dumars was the third option. The Dream Team was the set up for international crossover. That means more global money. It was set up for MJ; they couldn’t let Isaiah outshine MJ for nine years in a row. Last comment… Who beat everyone on the dream team… #11 Isaiah Thomas 🔥⛹🏾🏀

Never had the chance to see Jordan play basketball because the crap he played was not basketball. He was above the sport and had his own rules.
