Detroit River Fishing - Multispecies

In this video, Northern Mike (link to his YT Channel below) and I hit the Detroit River for a day of smallmouth, with appearances from some other species too. The primary approach was drop shotting with 1/2 oz weights paired with both live and artificial baits. The live bait was craws and the artificials included the 3" Tackle Hd Hi-Def Craw, the X-Zone Slammer, Kietech 3.8" swimbait, and the Yum Warning Shot.

Been fishing up there for 20 years and the Detroit river is underrated! Caught many species and all of good size

I agree, Timothy. I think it’s known for walleye and maybe silver bass, but aside from that, people kinda don’t know about the smallies.

I have caught 4-5 pound Smallmouth right off the break wall where the river meets the lake

Thanks, Matt. Yea we did have to grind it out at times. We hit a slow period for a couple hours. Fortunately, it turned around in late afternoon.

Thanks dude. Yea we were really lucky that day. Surprisingly, catfish catches are pretty common out there, and in Lake st Clar too. I’ve see guys get them by Metro and GPYC and the mile roads.
