Some of these homes can be bought for as little as $1k. I don't understand why some of the high schools & community colleges don't buy them & use them to teach electrician skills & plumbing, and other skilled trades. Once done, they could sell them, then buy more & maybe even auction off a few of them, or offer some to a few of the students' families. There are SO MANY creative ways these could be put to good use. Thank You so much for showing us all these neighborhoods!

@@edm9760 Sadly, you're probably right. Politicians would get involved & set up "committees" that would consist of their families & friends. Any money they had for the projects would be gone long before any students picked up even ONE tool. We're truly f-ed.

the scale of the wasted resources, capital investment, urban heritage. Some of these old middle and upper middle class suburbs are well planned, were well built with quality design. The scale of some of these homes, duplex’s included is quite remarkable

Southwest Detroit is in beautiful condition you rarely see a empty house or a boarded up house no empty lots just blocks and blocks full of beautiful well kept homes. They cleaned out all the alleys in southwest for miles and miles they keep all the grass and weeds trimmed down they repair all the cement curves and streets Southwest currently looks like any upper class suburb they did a really amazing job cleaning it all up the only bad thing is all the homes that used to be under 100k are now is high as 200 to 500 k

Hey, folks, Detroit died in the Sixties when a particular ethnic group among its population burned the city down. Back in the day, 1900-1940, D-troit was full of mansion-filled streets, a great city to live in. It's long gone, might as well be in Nigeria for what it's worth today.

The owners get sick of replacing sinks, toilets refrigerators and stoves…people would sell them right out of the apartments. Can’t make the taxes so they just walk away. I am honestly surprised someone hasn't come up with a business scraping these homes for lumber, wire, metal, etc especially the way inflation is today and the expense of construction materials. I suppose chasing down ownership makes it less possible but I'd think the city would be more than happy to help out. Some may say it's sad, but time has its way with all things and it's just the nature of the universe to go from order to disorder.

Man this is truly sad to see. Motor city was built on abundance of factory jobs from Ford and GM. When they just decided to up and leave. It hurt Detroit so much. Alot of those jobs were unskilled labor, that also paid very well. But corporate interests are what corporations are about. They have no actual investment in the places they employ people, or the people they employ. We are just the tools they use to make themselves richer. We need to get back to a free market, and stop over regulating everything. So people can actually make lives for themselves. F corporate america. They only want us to work for them for their terrible wages, and buy their overpriced marked up 1000% made in china stuff. Im sick of corporate greed.
