sunil varma datla it's not the same thing as WiFi with a range extender. A range extender is constantly sending a connection while these routers constantly seeking active WiFi devices and prioritizing their connection to them. Thus providing a better all around connection.

Guitar Player yeah I prefer sperate too. Mostly because even if the brick or wire break you can just exchange them for another. Instead of wasting a perfectly good brick, because the wire ripped.

I just purchased a three-point system. Looking forward to setting up and using it. You move through the process pretty fast, so I'll have to watch the tutorial a couple of times at least. But I appreciate your efforts. Fast forward four days. I have the system up and running, and so far, I am delighted.

Is the mesh network actually different than two Apple routers? I have a Time Capsule and AirPort Extreme on each end of my house, and from my experience the handoff between routers is seamless/unnoticeable.

Strange you're having problems with the airport extreme, i've used that device with a pair of airport express is extending the Wi-Fi range, for the last six years no disconnections and never ever have had to reboot even once. It's so reliable that you forget it's even there. That's the only reason it's making me hesitant in picking up this device, because my devices are the older model that does not have AC. But if this is as reliable as you say, I think this will be the next upgrade for my house in a couple of months the Wi-Fi speed will help a great deal

Excellent review! Ordered the 3 pack and looking forward to replacing my current unreliable extended setup: AirPort Extreme > MoCA hardwire > Airport Express. Speed is great, but consistency is poor. Like you said, I think it has to do with the device handoffs between the two zones and the added complexity. I suspect the mesh network will handle these handoffs and consistency better?

Thanks for this comprehensive walktrough. How happy are you with the speed? Apparently it does have a seperate wireless technology for communicating between the hubs, so that it does not 'piggyback' on the wifi connection used for communicating with the devices?

They're new routers. They can be used purely as extenders, but they're designed to be used mainly as a replacement for your old router

this is just regular router.. other 2 will work as wifi range extender... you still need to pay to internet service provider like comcast or Verizon...

If you were issued a Wireless Gateway (modem and router in one unit), you need to bridge the device as only a modem and then only use the #1 Ethernet port to the first mesh WiFi point. This avoids double NAT problems.

Ultimately they are routers that are connected to your modem. Dunno about the dsl but for cable internet they are fantastic.

Same issue as you two. Have an older Airport Extreme and a newer Time Capsule to make my home network and speeds have been poor lately unless I'm right at the primary router. Got the Google system in today and my speeds are fantastic in all rooms of my apartment. My place isn't all that big but it's centered around a long hallway which seems to be bad for wifi. Also, the walls must be filled with lead as my watch looses connection with the phone if I go one room over, which is weird as it works all over the office I work at. So I got the three pack which is technically overkill for such a small space but my lowest speeds now are better than my best speeds before. I just got these in today and faced the same issue. I used the AirPort Utility to turn off wifi on the unit and then plugged it directly to the ethernet port on my Thunderbolt Display (which is connected to my MacBook). Had to ignore a couple error messages relating to the unit not being connected to the internet and all has worked well all afternoon with several automatic backups. I think you can also plug the Time Capsule into the LAN port on the router if it; is shared with multiple machines (mine is not). Hope this helps!
