Why is my google router speed half of my main router speed? I pay for 100/30 from frontier and I get that on their router, but I only get 50/15 when testing my main google router. Thoughts?

So I was wondering if I should purchase this or need this. I have horrid AT&T wifi that barely reaches across our house so I was wondering what this exactly does. Does this extend and improve the AT&T WiFi or replace it and I don’t have to worry about AT&T anymore.

You’d still need to subscribe to their internet service but yes, it would expand the WiFi coverage so you should get a stronger signal and better speeds on your devices. That’s why I got it!

I have a cable modem (from ISP) and it connects to an Ooma, then from Ooma to a separate Linksys router. Some people have it going from modem->router->Ooma. So can I hook up the Google WiFi point to my router (in its existing hardware configuration) or do I have to get rid of my router and attach Google WiFi directly to the modem and then attach the Ooma onto the other Ethernet port on the Google WiFi? Also, is it possible to cannot a switch to the Google WiFi point if I needed to connect additional wired Ethernet devices?

It’s basically a router. So, you just hook it up to your cable modem. I thought it was an extender, but its not apparently.

Peter, loved the review as far as it went. But, early on, you told us you have a long house and I do as well. My big hope for the review is that you would review the "mesh" part of the routers, e.g. give us a sense of how far apart the units can be and still be effective, how fast a speed you get at the node most distant from the modem, etc. But, nada. Sad.

if i was to buy a single mesh system could i move that one to my room instead of keeping it plugged into my router?
@bderkhan29254 жыл бұрын
No, you need minimum of TWO if you want to put ONE far away from the router. You will connect one to the router, then put another one in another room/level of your house. You need two because the first one will send WiFi to the second one wirelessly. If you want to buy ONE item, search online for a beefy WiFi EXTENDER. Then you can just put that ONE in another room, far from your original router and it will extend the WiFi wirelessly. Similar to these things, but cheaper and better
@Jasonlovesmusic5593 жыл бұрын
@@bderkhan2925 This doesn't make sense to me. Why can't the existing router just send the wifi signal to the google point? It is such an unintuitive design to require you to keep a point plugged into the router that is already sending a wifi signal.
@bderkhan29253 жыл бұрын
@@Jasonlovesmusic559 It's because google has a strict restriction. You can't plug a google pod into a router because the google pod needs a direct connection to the modem. Then it will create the DCHP and NAT protocols. Essentially, the first google pod can't be in Bridge Mode either. So your whole network basically HAS to be google home pods (Except for the modem). Here's my best guess as to wifi. What if your router doesn't have mesh capabilities? Then the google pod won't be able to do what it advertises because there is only 1 out of two internet devices that support mesh network. So to prevent that. Google requires at least two. The first piece has to be a home pod, and the second piece has to be a home pod as well. You can add extra access points (wired/wireless) but those won't work well unless they are using googles mesh system too. I don't like it, which is why i'd never buy a google internet device (or almost any mesh device). Every company that makes a mesh network device does this because the algorithms are different. Asus has to use asus mesh network devices, and so does google, etc.
@movakalin53334 жыл бұрын
Hello, I have setup google WiFi mesh. What I observed, the two routers are on different levels in my location, no sight contact. However both are attached to the same switch. But still when I go to the second device, or do mesh test on the app, it would complain and tell me I should place both routers to visible contact. So I assume it works only good, when they are in close to each other? I thought as long as both are at the same switch regardless of distance it should work. The competition with Netgear can do this.
