Happy New Year folks! Hope you enjoyed the break in December and had time to relax with family and/or play some games. We've a ton of videos coming this month including the remaining backlog of our Noclip Sessions we recorded last year, extended interviews from the Horizon doc, and a bunch of behind-the-scenes and studio-building stuff for our Patrons over on patreon.com/noclip. Thanks for your support in 2017, we have big plans for 2018 and can't wait to share them with you soon.

Dishonored 2 and Prey are games that haven't got nearly enough praise. Both games doing incredible things within the immersive sim genre
@yunix23965 жыл бұрын
Yeah, and it really sucks that they don't get love. Prey is the best sci-fi Immersive Sim to date. Have yet to try out System Shock, but my opinion won't change that much.
@trblemayker51574 жыл бұрын
It's true. Sadly the gaming public only cares about online competitive modes and movie games where there's barely any gameplay.
@lucascarracedo74212 жыл бұрын
Praise doesn't have to do with amount but quality. These games get a ton of love and praise. They are just not that popular. And that's ok. Popular isn't the same as successful.
@lucascarracedo74212 жыл бұрын
@Haleakala Ekewaka yeah. In most cases I'd rather studios I like stay independent. But for now they are doing well. I'm sure even though they don't sell a lot, parent companies get a lot of prestige from everything Arkane does so it works for everyone. And, as you stated, they don't have to worry much about sales, just keep doing what they do best.
@lucascarracedo74212 жыл бұрын
@Haleakala Ekewaka I agree that they will get bigger maybe. But they get plenty recognition. They may not be popular, but the people who actually talk about them praise them mostly. It's not that they don't get recognition. They get it just from the people that matter. If the price of becoming popular is becoming mainstream I'd rather them stay where they are. It's not like they aren't doing well anyway.

Harvey just keep doing what your doing. Dishonored 1 and 2 are some of my favorite games. Arkane are simply an amazing studio, Dishonored 1, 2 and Prey I've played through I think 6-8 times each. I'm not done yet either. Plus you easily have credit (to me at least) as the best level designers and gameplay concept designers. Your motto, "multiple paths" it's just something I love. When it comes to solving a problem in an Arkane game, that's the first thing I think of and I... Love... it.
@SyncrisisVideos6 жыл бұрын
I just finished playing through Death of the Outsider for the first time. I've played through all of the other Dishonored games at least twice, Dishonored 2 I've played through 4 times. I always find something new each playthrough, and I am enraptured with the world that was created. I really enjoy how the games deal with player height, creating nearly three maps of vertical space within the same existing map. I don't know if Harvey Smith is reading any of this, but the Dishonored series has brought me hundreds of hours of entertainment and kept me wanting more over the past 8 or 9 years. Can't wait to play anything else that comes from this guy, and I wish more game studios would show the passion and attention to detail that oozes from every square inch of the Dishonored maps.

Was really disappointed with Dishonored 2 at launch simply because it ran so poorly, but since they've patched the game up I've really come to love it. Dishonored 1 and 2 are such amazing games for stealth fans, and the fact that you can play them as all-out action games as well is a pretty impressive accomplishment.

Same, at first I couldn't play Dishonored 2. But when I could, I was literally blown away by its level design, The Clockwork Mansion is simply amazing.
@jon-umber6 жыл бұрын
@Ciber Agreed, it has possibly the best level design I've ever played in a game. It starts a bit slowly in my opinion with the Karnaca docks, but the Clockwork Mansion is undoubtedly and incredible achievement, as is A Crack In The Slab. Absolutely incredible, mind-bending stuff. Dishonored 2 had its issues technically, but from a level design perspective I really believe it will be looked at as one of the best games ever made.

I have a suggestion for a video, love these noclip sessions, this might be too pricey but what about having videos like the Hollywood reporter does around oscar time and have like creative directors talk about building worlds in games or game directors or something, would be interesting to see different takes on the subjects and I guess show people more of people responsible for a big game, they maybe didn't know about (like this one), guess would be best to have it around GDC or maybe game awards.

I often wondered if Jessamine's death in Dishonored reflected Harvey's own experience of watching his own mother die from a drug overdose when he was 6. It's interesting to see that there's a connection. I think the heart of the game is stronger for having a big familial loss in it. It makes me more invested than the cold clinical killing in a game like Hitman.

Harvey mentioned Thief 3... when are we gonna get the Ion Storm/Looking Glass noclip doc? :D Thief 3 in many ways turned out to be sort of an inversion of what happened with The Witcher series: two universally beloved games followed up by a widely panned cult favorite sequel. I know the story behind the scenes was a lot different, of course. But the CDPR interviews on Witcher 1 were a really great look at the ups and downs of creating a flawed but respected game. Would love to see interviews with people like Randy Smith, Jordan Thomas, Terri Brosius...

Makes me sad that games like the original deus ex don't really come out anymore. I don't need the fanciest graphics or anything like that. Rising tide of nationalism without explaining what he thinks nationalism is or the problems that come with it. I think it's missed potential for further discussion of what he could view to be inspiration for games he worked on. I wouldn't be surprised by the default answer those in silicon valley give, as it's usually bay area bourgeois moralizing without even rationalizing the reasons WHY nationalism is on the rise, and whether or not it's a bad thing.
@anbr48336 жыл бұрын
Voting for Trump just to show "the people still have the power" is a very petty thing to do. Just because you think people on the left are annoying doesn't make it ok to put someone clearly not fit for the job as president. Not meaning to attack you in any way but even if you vote republican there are several people who are more mature and have more experience in politics.
@camycamera6 жыл бұрын
He just said that as an off-the-side comment. And considering the definition of nationalism, yes, that is a bad thing. What the world needs I think is for countries to work together more to solve issues, from climate change, to preventing war - that's why things like the UN exists - rather than going "we're better than everyone else, go fuck yourselves". But then we have a moron in the most influential country in the world going against all of that, a moron who built his political campaign off of fear mongering and prejudice, using slogans like "Make America Great Again" (Fuck off, America has always been great)... That is a massive problem. The fact that someone like him is even in office in the first place, also doesn't help, and has made people really lose faith in the system (and unfortunately this has also led to people being extremely rude towards his supporters, which widens this gap and is also arguably the reason he got voted into office in the first place), while on the other side you have people sticking to the guy no matter what facepalm-inducing thing he says or does next.

With regard to a changed America, and dark undertones. I think you're over-reacting a bit. America has always been against illegal immigration. It was only during the Obama years that liberals decided they were all for it. It's an issue that's usually 70% plus where people are against illegal immigration, and even the dreamers it's 60% plus. I don't know of a country in the world that likes to just admit random people to their country. There are FAR more, so called progressive countries out there with far more restrictive immigration policies than ours. Those countries are trying to retain their culture. Trump is a reaction to the left deciding that they were more interested in protecting the interests of people who should not be here, who broke our laws and set up shop in our neighborhoods. He won because people are fed up with illegal immigration, and scared of the Democrats shift to lawlessness. I mean, Hillary Clinton in 2006 was STAUNCHLY opposed to illegal immigration. She was full throated against it. So America didn't change, liberal politicians did.
