@@dailyraptor7700 Dishonored, like the Batman Arkham series, Assassin's Creed and interestingly Breath of the Wild is all about verticality. You gain a huge advantage by climbing up high, both in terms what you can see, not being seen, navigation and opening up options. Therefore that was the first thing I did on this level, I didn't find out about the 'usual' route till many playthroughs later when I purposefully broke out of my up top and behind the scenes 'route' and found out just how wonderful and varied this level is. A masterclass in level design.

This documentary made me realize that developers not only make a game to make a game. They are essentially building a portfolio: can we make a level that's able to transform completely? Yes, cool. Can we make a hub that can be summoned to any point in the level? Yes, we can. It really makes you think about it as a long term progress for a studio rather than long term progress for a specific game....in short, another AMAZING doc guys!

What an incredibly fascinating video. Arkane are absolute wizards when it comes to level design and art. Both aspects of Dishonored, Dishonored 2, and Prey are absolutely top notch. I've been gaming for coming up on 40 years (fuck, I'm old) and Dishonored 2 has a few of the best levels I have ever played in my life. Really outstanding work.

Makes me want to try Dishonored 2 again, but I generally quit after an hour because some stupid guard sees me through the tiniest gap and eveything goes to shit and the game turns into reload simulator...

@@Texelion3Dprints The first level of D2 can be quite frustrating because you don't have any power. Just try to power through it, maybe reduce the difficulty a bit, and by Mission 2, you can just use Blink or Far Reach to go to higher places in order ro avoid guards.

@@minhnguyenle9864 I remember the last time I played D2, I thought - why the hell not, and declined all of The Outsider's powers, played the entire thing without them. Sneaking around, not killing anyone and not having the powers as a safety net - brought back that Thief intensity and I loved it.

"The Clockwork Mansion and Crack in The Slab are like two parts of a watch, one concerning itself with the mechanics of the moving hand and the other with time itself." I bet that was really satisfying to put on a page. That's some clever writing, gave me a smile.

One thing I really would like to hear more about it the architectural design of both cities. Like, they both make sense as actual cities and not just gameplay hubs. Little sluice gates, flood paths, all the sorts of Industrial Era stuff that makes Dunwall and Karnaca both feel like places that have already survived countless catastrophes before the plague and will continue for long after

When he talked about breaking monotonous gameplay, easily my favourite aspect of the Dishonored series is the simplest puzzle solving feel when you've scaped the whole area looking for a different angle and you finally find a way to get your target.
