When Catherine says she wants to cure schizophrenia so no one in the future ever has to suffer the same fate as her father, she's actually talking about herself. Her fear of losing her sanity is the subconscious motivator pushing her to keep exposing herself to the resonator.

Speaking of Jeffrey Combs' talent, I had the pleasure of seeing him perform his one-man Edgar Allan Poe play "Nevermore" last October up in Tarrytown NY. He commanded the stage for 90 straight minutes with nothing but a chair, small table and lit candle as set dressing, reciting some of Poe's most famous works (and of course, the Raven - which he did expertly) and as well discussing the great author while in character as Poe. He held the audience captivated the entire time - progressively becoming more drunk and belligerent as the play progressed. And he was very funny. Very much a treasured memory for me

really the monster in this story is interesting, and can be pretty much defined by "it ate him" not his body, but "him" as in the self. Apparently the monster devours the brain of its prey, devouring the self, absorbing all memories and personality of whatever it devours incorporating it into itself. The reason why the scientist became in control is probably because he's the only sentient intelligent thing the creature had eaten at that point. However, even though the doctor personality had initially retained its sense of self, and therefore kept a human appearance, it was slowly chipped away at by the sea of monsters that made up the beast, resulting in the personality beginning to devolve into the creatures base state of brain eating shape shifting monstrosity. what happened at the end was another personality, Crawford, being integrated into the mass, and since the two personalities hated each other Crawford tried to rebel against and destroy the doctor. Like someone with multiple personality disorder inflicting self harm upon themselves.

I always liked this movie, on the whole, but my favorite part of the flick is the very end. Barbara Crampton knocks that "maddened laugh" out of the park. Combined with the chilling music, which jumps in, and it has always remained, in my opinion, a classic moment in Horror. Thanks for including it in your review.

I think they did a good job adapting this story, it's probably better than the original. Also I think that it wasn't Pretorius who was from beyond but a creature that can take the likeness of those it kills. That's why you see Combs seem to come out of pretorius fully formed.

I think Crawford saying, "It's so beautiful!" is not referring to his new headcock, butt rather the extra perception ability allows him to see Praetorious' form as amazing as a continuation of the sexual desire/obsession theme. That's why even with Praetorius' ability to change his form at will he becomes more monstrous, because from his perspective while others may not like it this is what peak sexiness looks like.

Deus, not sure if you still see these, but please make some more videos. Love your stuff in 2023. Instead of being possessed, think of the peneal overriding the "rational" control we experience through the prefrontal cortex. If the part of your brain that controls some benign function became capable of influencing conscious thought, you'd have a very different perspective on your motivations. Especially in the early stages when the transition of control is occurring for the first time.

I have two theories why Patoris (sp?) keeps getting "worse" in appearance. Either the being he became has transformed his view of beauty. "Eye of the beholder". Or he's attracted to terrorifed and or traumatized women. Which unfortunately is mixed with him being a sociopathic rapist.

The creature's form is probably supposed to represent a 3D cross section of a higher dimensional creature. Its crude appearance is from only seeing a part of a more complex creature that dwells in higher spatial dimensions. Lovecraft played with this idea a bit with Great Cthulhu himself only partially materializing in our world so that when he is "killed" at the end of CoC, he only re materializes again having re-entered our world. It's like if our finger is pressed against a flat surface, gets burned so that we pull it away and then reapply our finger again.

Deusdaecon Reviews If you don't mind I have a hypothetical question, but kinda regards a Final Destination type of senario, so this may seem easier if I give a little back story first. I have seen a horror anime series called Another. In episode 4 a nurse dies in an elevator because the brakes above snapped or broke due to a curse. Needless to say she was killed due the elevator hitting the ground floor, so she died on impact. But what if she jumped in the air just a split second before the elevator smashes into the ground. Could she have survived? Unless it defies physics somehow, making it impossible for her to be able to jump at all. It's just something I would consider doing if such a thing happened to me.
@deusdeaconReviews
@deusdeaconReviews 7 жыл бұрын
Albedo Yuriev well honestly the mythbusters experimented with that exact idea and they found that jumping isn't enough to negate the downward force of the elevator and any potential damage caused by it, so still very dead.

I think Praetorious is getting worse looking because the Resignator is growing in influence, like said earlier it's likely that the being we're seeing isn't Praetorious but is in fact an otherworldly being trying to spread out into the other world. Catherine almost has her head bitten off like Praetorious did, so it's likely the being is using sex and temptation as a way to lure people into utilizing the Device. As for why sex is being used, I suspect it's moreso a dopamine rush that's being driven into those who're more susceptible to influence, thus rewarding them more and more for opening the passage.

The way i interpreted Pretorius's transformations was that of someone learning to control a new ability. Essentially, learning to control new muscles like a child learning to walk. His first appearance after his death, he was simply in his human form, taking his "default" body. As the film progresses, pretorius is learning to manipulate his body, learning to sculpt clay with no experience.

I honestly don't think the device would have a massive effect on me in the list factor as I am not that introuged in physical intimacy with other people. Besides that I probably would have destroyed it I may be introuged in learning if schizophrenic patients are on some level stuck on that plane. I also like that Crawford even though he is a scientist can see the dangers that is cool. P.s.s Catherine ñeeds a slapping when she wants to continue the experiments.

I think Pretorius turned into a Mi-go (a fungus-like insect creature from the Lovecraft mythos), which would explain the whole thing with brains. They take human brains and preserve and store them for research. Rendering the person's stolen brain immortal. They can even swap minds with other creatures as well.

I actually think all the sex stuff is great considering Lovecraft was also scared of that and invasion of ones person in other ways as well. Besides it's already established beforehand of the doctors liking for alot of sex and the machine amplifies it to make him even more insatiable. My belief is when it ate the doctors head his consciousness became the vast majority of what is in control but it still has the animal mind as well telling it too consume which he doesn't seem to care about controlling so long as it feels good. He became a creature that chases its next high.

17:16 - Ah, YT in 2015, when you could get away with about a second of bare naked man (including an almost complete shot of the dong) in your video. That’s probably a really immature sentiment, but it’s just a “back in the day” thought. Back before two adpocalypses, and the Viner Invasion, and ten minute videos being a prerequisite, and Fortnite domination of the Gaming tab. KZbin today is practically built on rules and patterns, a system that’s intended to please advertisers more than consumers and creators, and when you realize just how much this platform lives and dies by its systems, it feel cathartic to find a video from years ago that couldn’t exist in that same form today. It’s... nostalgic, I suppose.
