Glad to see you back. Even though I wasn't keen on the film its still an interesting one to discuss and I would still rather us have it than not. Best of luck with your degree.

The one thing I will give this movie as opposed to the previous few sequels is that it did have some interesting camera shots…. That’s literally all I will give it.

Electroconvulsive therapy still seems like a brutal procedure. I'm glad someone is actually asleep for the event, so it's not like they're being tortured.

7:07 The Djinn didnt make the gem, Jafar did. Of course he'd want a failsafe in case the Djinn got back out. Killing people in the vicinity isn't a bug, it's a feature.

The Strangers' species' bodies were too vulnerable and fragile, and potentially had issues with recreation. Human bodies are sturdier, but lack the tuning ability and the connection to the hivemind. So Strangers needed to figure out what makes human mind different from their own, and how can they turn a human into one of themselves.

My little theory after watching the originals and now this one (purely my own opinions i get if this sounds ridiculous) This is the ORIGINAL Leviathan configuration, meant to grant an audience with god after making a deal with the cenobites for blood/sacrifices, whereas the Lament configuration, is only a man made recreation of the original leviathan. perhaps LeMarchand encountered the leviathan but only saw it in its lament phase, and so he could only greate a gate to the cenobites in his limited understanding, not a godly artifact to take sacrifices. i feel like you'll get where im going with this but it kinda helps the whole knife debaucle. i feel like someone is meant to solve the whole thing alone while taking sacrifices to preserve themselves, they are supposed to know what it is, and to avoid the knife the entire time.

27:57 Wouldn't they have recorded the knives going into the table or the girl teleporting into the kitchen from that angle?

I don't hate this movie. It was the first hellraiser I saw.

While it by no means fixes the movie, I interpreted some elements as "them having delusional prophecies and religious explanations for something that is still a virus because oldy timey means science knowledge is near non existent", the sole exception being Ginger and Bridgette being bound to lycanthropy for eternity

On The Mask Cenobite, I believe the writing on his skin could be a reference to Clive Barker's Books of Blood.

I'm not dumping on the fact that they made Pinhead a woman but I think it would have been better if they had gone with a more androgenous design to make The Priest look more mysterious and intimidating and also had her speak with both male AND female voices overlapping to add to the image of an unknowable horror staring you in the face

As much as I love this version of the priest, voice included, I love your idea.

Speaking of Melissa George. You seem to like a higher concept horror movie. I think you should check out triangle from 2009. I think it doesn't get enough love. It also is the perfect kind of film for a review on the channel.
@deusdeaconReviews13 күн бұрын
triangle isn't a high-concept film it just pretends to be one, its story is dumb and convoluted by design to obscure the flawed execution.

I enjoyed the hell out of this movie, and glad to hear the turn around on Stewart. She is very much an idiosyncratic actor, but when she's in a role that matches, she's amazing. And the look and the style would have been perfect for an almost Ripley level blue collar badass. Almost want them to have her back in a sequel, no explanation at all provided outside of some weirdness surrounding her, and this time the context is seemingly entirely different. Just to get more of her in the role.

20:54 You're not wrong. Here in America, the role of the police has become more about protecting property (and themselves) on behalf of the property owners. Look at all the cases of Americans calling the police for help and getting funded down by the very people they called for help. Cops don't care about protecting the public anymore.
