You know, there is an included harness for the child as well. You can strap him in there, which restricts his max. movement, thus stabilizing the carrying process. I was wondering why you didn't put it on. Also you kid's chin shouldn't be above the chin-rest, but about at two thirds the hight of the rest. But I feel you about losing your hat regularly or your ears/hair being pulled.
