Nice to see guys that take pride in their work and really appreciate some of the cool old rides. That GN was freakin beautiful.

It's great to have a neighbor like Neil to restore the original ish paint. Needless to say an economy car would not have the same quality paint as his beautiful classics. Kudos to all who chose a pro for bringing out natural patina of this old car with a beast of a heart. I liked Jamie's heat treat idea and recognize the stressful time when he did it. My thought was in perfect conditions the black should have been deep cleaned with a final distilled water rinse. Now we see Neil's product that I would finish with. Maybe some day I can experiment with a friend applying the dressing just a moment behind the torch. It's great to see a recommendation on the re-black of Neil's. We all hate perusing the shelf, trying to figure out what to use next when it comes to these products that tend to be all hype. Three days later as you're cruising down the boulevard the alley dogs come out to howl the naked truth, "Your new do looks like doo-doo!" The best part of you having a friend (who has never layed a finger on a VeeDub) is showing all the quick ways to work around these cars. For this video the example would be removing the one screw holding door handle the pull and turn the handle out instead of tape and wearing out knuckles to polish the recess (obviously get a better job done, too) People will ask me why I drive a small car after they see all 6ft 6 rise out of say a MK1 Rabbit ala Wilt Chamberlain (who stood over 7ft) in a VW commercial. My answer is much like his. American cars were made for the typical American in the day (Dads '70 cutlass in high school comes to mind) with my knees wrapped up around the steering wheel and my neck bent due to roofline. So, my VeeDub count is 6 - NO 7. Recently made a stupid adoption of a b6 wagon, dead engine... make it into an unbadge R? Or electrify? Quick note; Wilt could run 440 in 49 seconds - that's a 1/4 mile, due the math. That was as fast as a Rabbit diesel! Okay, not true. The Wabbit could do it in half the time BUT! only going downhill with a tailwind. I'm super glad to see how great the Scirocco looks - sort of a sleeper which, in my world is more sweet than a new wild paint scheme.

I love this! My second car ever was an '85 Scirocco turbo. YES these existed for homologation issues. My car was "rock gray metallic", code LK7V, the most beautiful gun metal blue gray you can imagine, and VERY rare. It was used on probably 500 Scirocco's but only about 200 Jettas that were sent to the United States. the Scirocco was the VW "sports car" that was really like your athletic kid who could get on the team....But he couldn't get any awards. You love him like crazy but in the end you realize that he's just a nice looking regular kid. But he's just average performance...

My 91 coupe would get shitty within a few weeks of being waxed. After watching AMMONYC I got it corrected with polishing compound. It was slower than rubbing compound but that's the key, start gentle and work up to more aggressive if it's not working. Now it holds a wax job for a heck of a lot longer and not being driven in the past 2yrs it looks as good as when I waxed it up before storage.

Tons of oxidation. But, I have to call him out on something (as a professional detailer myself). Those old school classics were all repainted , which would make his life a ton more easier. Unlike the scirocco. Nonetheless he knows what he’s doing and those single stage paints are extremely difficult not to fuck up. Also, I like using glassparency myself . And a ceramic coating would def help boost the gloss finish.

I'm actually kind of disappointed. Restoring a single stage paint job that's already thin isn't about using abrasives to buff off the oxidation and remaining paint, it's about revitalizing the paint that's still left on there. Start with Meguiars #5 and go to town . Watch the vids from Mike @ Autogeek on how to work single stage paint and you'll end up with amazing results. I have an '84 Mk1 with single stage Mars Red paint (same as this car) and had mind blowing results following his steps. This car looks nicer than when it rolled into the shop but I don't know if this was the best path, long term, on how to get there.

Zymol 100% carnuba wax gives that VW single stage red a very deep lustre. It takes some effort to apply, is expensive, and doesn't last quite as long as modern chemicals. Now that the car is polished, consider a 100% carnuba wax.
