This is the side of orchestral concerts that nobody knows exists - when Dudamel and a bunch of Venezuelans get together and play Leonard Bernstein, it becomes a giant party.
@Mark64W3 жыл бұрын
Well said Sir . Concerts like this need more exposure to make young people to take an interest in learning to play an instrument , and the general public to attend concerts .

The treatment of classical music as a museum piece, to be revered in solemn silence, will kill it. Sure, there are some serious pieces, but it’s supposed to beautiful, human, and fun. Good to see this.

For idiots.

@@wesneedham5009 The idea that a classical music concert is only worthwhile if it checks subjective boxes like "beautiful, human and fun".. is something that is at odds with ways the canon of classical music can invite you to hold a different opinion than the one you're having... if only your thought processes allow you to hear it.. ; either way, no doubt such an invitation is waiting in a theatre near you ;-) I am also totally appreciative of seeing these kids give the audience a justified reason to cheer and participate.. (great playing throughout, and heartwarming reaction by the crowd) but I detest the shortsighted immediate comparison you and some other commenters make with classical concert practices and certainly since you can't seem to refrain from asserting the negatively charged stereotypical idea of classical music not being so lively and meant for old people with the added false note (see what I did there?) of it supposedly not providing any reason to reflect on ideas about ..e.g. .. beauty.. what it means to be human.. how to define fun... on these very terms. That is just intellectual laziness talking and has nothing to do with ways classical music can be appreciated. What is funny to me is that those - like you - who want to say something positive... do so by professing these smart sounding, yet ultimately vacant and gratuitous blanket statements that have a lot of negative overtones; the irony is that it undermines the worth of the positivity they cared to communicate after seeing and hearing this wonderful performance.
