Gearbox, fuel system and engine control work to get me chuffin dumper working

That took me right back to my first job on site. We had a stubborn old dumper that was a bugger to start, always a two man job. One to swing on the handle and another to throw the lever. It never ceases to amaze me how you can take a load of crap and make something useful out of it. You're a very talented man James. Be safe and be lucky mate.

I like the idea that your mini dumper is a gas start gas engine... that's great also I think thick ribbon like steel wool is an easy way to build a muffler but I've never messed with them myself.

Hello, Jim. My AC1 Lister Petter engine had been coked up on the pintle as well, but a friend actually rebuilt it for me. He was quite pleased at how easily it started for him. A starting motor is about £180 here, so I'm looking for something with the same tooth count that I could adapt to fit. There might be a market for the adapters for the engine.
@turboconqueringmegaeagle90062 жыл бұрын
I got a starter with my ac2w, it'll be the same if you ever want me to dimension it or anything, just started working on my Lister power pack, needs to be electric start but like you I'm not going to spend that sort of money on a starter+ring gear so looking at making a starter geny with a solenoid operating the deco, it's how the "startomatic" load sensing generators used to work I believe.

Wow that's dumper was in a rough shape. Did the gearbox cracked because of frozen water? I am very glad my dumper has a Petter engine, much quitter, all Dutez knocks a lot. Well done for that pony starter. I think if you make the starting handle closer to the machine and reducing the stroke of the swinging hand, you should be able to start it. Remember the small the engine the shorter the swing to spin it fast. Is the handle connected to the crank or cam shaft?
@turboconqueringmegaeagle90062 жыл бұрын
I thought maybe frost damage but inside it was beautiful, no corrosion. I'll try what you are suggesting with the handle now that I know it starts well and I'm not breaking my wrist on a dead engine.

I take it that you'll be getting your diesel heater into that dumper butt, for a proper hillbilly hot-tub? It's a brave man that sees much use of the 4th gear in those old things on anything but the smoothest of tarmac, it's amazing how something can be glacially slow and terrifyingly quick at the same time.

Thought I’d added a comment. Like the starter motor bit easier than a broken wrist 🙄 looks like it could do with some new tyres for more grip. Love how you managed to Mackle two gearboxes together to get one decent one. Only gearbox I’ve looked at was a simple two speed cone clutch jobbie that came with my spare turret lathe... 😀

Things to do … clean down shell for a spot of paint …. And a go cart seat next to dad.. on a serious note though was the left front wheel slipping / losing power - looked like you had it in one wheel drive mode for a bit? And were your back wheels a bit floppy? Like the bearings were a bit loose? Or was that a trick of the camera and angle?
@turboconqueringmegaeagle90062 жыл бұрын
Right front wheel is bald but they're pretty expensive and I don't want to replace it, with the hubcap hanging off I just wanted to check that bearing, all the play is in the king pin which is completely normal for this style 2wd dumper, this is by far the least sh1t one I've ever driven.
