I remember Brad and Dave actually did a Midnight Screenings of the Gene Wilder movie, and I remember just laughing my ass off at that one. So much of it was just Dave saying, “Fuck you and fuck your childhood” to anyone who had nostalgic memories of the movie, and Brad eventually called it a children’s slasher movie. (Brad later declared that Wonka was both a serial killer and a pedophile and compared Wonka to Dean Corll. That, of course, means that FREAK OUT was just a remake of WILLY WONKA & THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY.) I suspect Dev will actually kinda get this.

The kids didn't die normie. Not even in the books. Augustus Gloop was made thinner being squeezed through the pipe. Violet had to be squeezed of juice and her skin became permanant blue. The rich girl had to be fished out of the trash before the incinerators started. And on and on...

It's always weird hearing people call Tim Burton's movie a remake. That's like calling Pearl Harbor (2001) a remake of Tora! Tora! Tora! (1970). Or Titanic (1997) a remake of A Night To Remember (1958). That's just some backwards ass logic just because they're based on the same source material. The Disney live-action remakes are a different story because they're retelling the story Disney interpreted, not the original stories they were interpreted from. Tim Burton went out of his way to make sure people working on the movie who didn't watch the original never see it until his film was done because Roald Dahl hated the first movie. Personally as an adaptation, the Burton one is better, but I would be lying if I said I didn't like the 1977 movie. The 1977 movie is still a great comedy, just not a good adaptation in the slightest.

Wait... people liked this movie? This movie was trash. Visually uninspired. The music sucked. Tried to prey on my nostalgia for the Gene Wilder one too many times. The movie is WAY too long. Willie Wonka is just magical and it's dumb. He was never magical.
@queuedjar457810 ай бұрын
Timothy Chalmet just didn't sell the character for me. He was dead eyed for basically the entire movie, basically refusing to put a unique or interesting personality on the character, and instead putting up a very inorganic impersonation of Gene Wilder. Overall, it's a hard bar to reach when your character was portrayed by both Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp in the past.
