Those eagles have bone slicing talons that have a tighter grip than a rottewiler's bite. Once the eagle sinks those talons on their victims, it's only a matter of time before they bleed out or the immediate trauma shocks them into submission. Those two never stood a chance.

Wood grouse fight ferociously... sometimes to the death... I noticed the eagle first attacked the dominant wood grouse, who was actually on verge of beating the other wood grouse... and I would have belived the other wood groused would be gratefull to the eagle after it killed his rival... but thats instinct to you... the other wood grouse was so focused on its fight, that it continued the fight vs the eagle... The eagle is at similar size to the wood grouse and not as agresive, but that goes to show how deadly those tallons are... the first wood grouse was killed in seconds... and then the eagle had enough of the other wood grouse herassement and it probably killed the other one as well...

Fantastic! Talk about being lucky to get to see this. I go to Sweden in April to see the Crane Dance and the Black Grouse Lek and the Capercaillie Lek. If I get to see something like this I will really be happy. These birds even attack humans during the lek season

After watching the video several times; I think the Grouse and the Golden Eagle are evenly matched in almost all their fighting departments except the beek and the feet. The feet / talons of the Eagle alone caused the death of the first Wood Grouse. The second Grouse fought evenly with the Eagle until the Eagle grabbed it by its powerful feet, then it was all over in a second

It had ZERO chance no matter how it fought. It's hard to tell because they're about the same size. That eagle is a golden eagle. 4 inch talons on claws with 800 PSI of squeezing power- that's 20x that of an adult human mans grip, more pressure than the bite of an African lion. They even kill small deer and wolves for food. Google it. That's why they were named raptors. It's latin for "to seize" As soon as the eagle got a claw on their chest the grouses entire chest cavity was completely crushed, it's why they both died in a few seconds. The grouse fought by slapping with it's wings and pecking because it thought the eagle was another rival it could show dominance to scare off it's territory and mates. If it was smarter it could have run away and lived another day.
