i am sorry but i think difference between margin and padding is Margin is the outer space of an element, while padding is the inner space of an element. In other words, margin is the space outside of an element's border, while padding is the space inside of its border. You can set auto value to margin.

He needs to improve the basic understanding. I think he has so read out the interview questions from the web, the interviewer can easily evaluate his level of understanding. For CSS mostly you will be asked on margin and padding , positions relative and absolute, transitions, flex box, display grid, how to center an element, div etc, box sizing and that's it I think these are the main concepts
