Padmarajan's last movie ❤❤...all songs of the movie are classics, actor is Nitesh Bharadwaj (who was famous those days for playing 'Krishnan' in Mahabharata serial in TV) and it was fantastic how he managed to lip sync to a Malayalam song (that too tough lyrics!). It's told that when Pappettan (director Padmarajan) called Johnson mash, he said that he needs some Hindustani based songs for this movie...Johnson mash told back that he doesn't know Hindustani, so it would be difficult but Pappettan quipped saying you didn't know Carnatic either but has produced so many classics, so you will manage...now, we can't imagine this movie without Johnson mash's magic... Dasettan was always considered a singer who was suitable to sing in god's presence, but this song which he is singing for a Gandharvan, kind of solidified him as 'Gandharva Gayakan'...

Devaankanangal is Deva + Ankanangal Ankanam in tamil also means coutyard. Devankanangal means the heavenly courtyards. The first line defines the concept of Gandharva. They are not permitted to enter heavenly courtyards on certain circumstances, on which the film is somewhat based on... "Devanankanagal kai ozhinja thaarakam" means "The star that was expelled by the heavenly courtyards" ... The hero who is Gandharva is singing about himself. Its a fantasy film. There are ywo more magical songs in this film 1. Devi - in Miyan ki Malhar and 2. Palappoove in Kaapi Gifts for you two common men 🤗

Thank you for reacting to this one! :) I love the different scales they use for the 2nd paragraph 'Aalapamaayi..' I still hum that around the house, it's such a melodious song and verse... I would also love if you react to 'Devi' from the same movie - when I was younger, I just wanted someone to sing 'Deeeviiii' to me the way Yesudas has sung, but I feel it'd be easier to find a gandharvan hahahaaaa. And hope you have a great time at the Thaikkudam concert, they're awesome performers - I hope they do 'Navarasam', that is one song that is great to experience live.

The best album to explore Johnson Master I would say. I belive you got understand that shift from yaman kalyani to puriya dhanasree/ pantuvarali in the charanam.. and then the sruthi bhedham has done in the charanam at the lyric "sammohanangal pole" In pantuvarali if we sing G to G omitting S and P we'll get mohana raga .. here master has done it in this place.. and see the lyrics "sam-mohanangal-pole" don't know whether the notes or lyrics came first but whatever it is, kaithapram namboothiri master and johnson master are two brilliant musicians and they know how to leave a craftman's stamp in each and every work they do.. in his song I personally believe it's the sruthibhedham and the matching lyric there.. Try to watch Kaithapram master's concerts he is an excellent musician too ❤❤
