It’s very much like the path to wellness you would receive from a Doctor if you have a medical issue…
So what happens if your child’s IEP is miswritten?
Well, actually quite a bit… none of which is good!
Welcome to this episode of Special Education Tips for parents!
There are thousands of things that can go wrong when an education plan is not written specific to your child.
However, we are going to cover the top 4 today;
Devastating Effects Of A Miswritten IEP
1. Your Child Won’t Gain The Services They Need
a. Obvious, But True
b. Academic Path Toward Success Will Continue Deteriorating
c. Self-Confidence Depletion
d. Every New Lesson Will Be More Difficult Than The Last
2. Self-Esteem Downward Spiral
a. Feeling of failure amplified
b. May begin acting out (behaviors)
c. Severe Dislike For School AND Learning
3. School Focus On Incorrect Accommodations
a. Treating Symptoms, Not Root Cause
b. Often The Case With Behaviors
i. Not Doing Enough To Find What’s Causing Behaviors
ii. Allowing Cause To Grow (Often Academic Struggle)
c. Child’s Work Often Made Easier As An Accommodation
i. When The Real Problem Is How Information Is Being Taught
4. Very Rarely Are Incorrect IEP’s Fixed
a. Takes A Ton Of Work To Uncover Root Causes That Have Been Buried
b. Many Teachers Don’t Have The Time Do Deconstruct And Rebuild Old IEP’s
c. Only Savvy Parents Seek Outside Help In Fixing Truly Broken IEP’s
Like I’ve mentioned many times before, the school system is in shambles filled with bloat, red tape, and antiquated processes.
Unfortunately, it’s up to parents to take their child’s education into their own hands and stop relying solely on a system that’s no longer designed for a child’s best interests.
We offer hundreds of blog posts on our website; SpecialEdResource.com and Videos on our KZbin page. These are resources designed for parents to help navigate the murky seas of Special Education.
In addition, we have services that are geared to help shore up the leaks found within your child’s education.
✅ IEP ASSISTANCE: specialedresource.com/iep-con...
One-On-One tutoring with a special education expert will help your child with their individual challenges in the way THEY learn best.
✅ ONE-ON-ONE TUTORING: specialedresource.com/free-co...
Also, we offer complete IEP services, which will ensure your child’s IEP is set up for THEM, and they are getting the services and accommodations they need to reach their excellence.
From all of us at SpecialEdResource.com - Thank you for watching this episode of Special Education Tips for Parents…
We’ll catch you in the next video.

So my mother needed to see this 30 years ago and didn't, and special education was so abusive it gave me PTSD. What can I do for myself now? What services or options are there for autistic adults whose parents didn't know the magic words to stop them from getting tortured by schools?

What can you do when other parent has custody, enrolls child in a cyber school, tells cyber school that they are not interested in services that would benefit child (ie: instructional assistant/para) and does not ensure child attends services (ie: speech therapy) that are provided? Aside from gaining custody since parent with custody instructed child to be violent with me to get custody.
