Good video, can i ask what’s the maximum hook link length for the helicopter rig ?is it best to stick to 3-6inches, and is it effective on rivers ?

Would you still fish at the same distance out later on in the year when the water warms up or would you fish in closer for the bream during the summer months ?
@fishert49487 жыл бұрын
I use the helicopter rig you described in the above clip . It works well , however I have some questions. I have experienced that while fishing with maggots smaller fish which are abundant in some rivers tend to suck or steal the maggots from the hook . As they are so small I cannot catch them . Therefore I would like to use (in some cases) another hookbait . Do you have a suggestion ? In summer I will try with corn on a hair. But in winter time that is not an option. Would it be a good option to attach a worm immediately to the hook ? Another possibility would be a hair with two plastic maggots attached to them and two living maggots on the hook . In this case when a small fish takes the living maggots i still have a chance.

Would it not be better to use a quivertip rod ?

Wont the hooklength move down to the feeder when playing a fish? Cause its only semi fixed with the float stops. Would you reccomend putting a swivel or a rigring under the stop towards the Feeder to secure it? Anyways awesome Video! Its the 4th time i watched it and still cant get enough!
@HampshireAnglingTV8 жыл бұрын
Hello Daniel, I'm so sorry about the late reply... Yes, they will as that's when they are under strain and need to move in order for the fish to fight freely as normal. Two good quality float stops (try Drennan or Guru) are perfect for this rig and will the conversion rates from takes is amazing. Sometimes it can be challenging to fish when there are too many small fish (especially little roach), but it is a very effective rig when used on the right water. So glad to hear you enjoyed it, hope to make more soon once pressures of college resits are over! Tom

i will try this , but i think its rather short for cautious bream, i do feel safer having the hooklength under the cage feeder. but i will try. wait for the film coming and will let you know.

top vids pal! im not at the point to be using big bait mixes myself in still on the sweetcorn and cheesestring diet but cool to see what else breem will go for. im at a small private owned pond and bet not many people have tried a decent mix thereoften so might be in luck when i do get around to it. Bream and Silverfish is what they have most and suposedly carp but for that pond i think you would be having your best day to get carp lol
@TheAdventurours8 жыл бұрын
Nice video . However i have one remark. You are using a lineclip what would happen if a carp takes the bait ? You would get a run and ... bye bye rod?
@HampshireAnglingTV8 жыл бұрын
There is a marker on the line made with pole elastic and you clip up to that. When the rigs are in the water, the line will be taken off the clip and if you don't get a fish, you can reclip and cast. If you get a fish, you can either use the marker and feel for that on the next cast or make a cast and re-clip - hope that makes sense. Thanks for watching and for the kind words. Tom
@TheAdventurours8 жыл бұрын
I don't get it . Do you mean that there is a pole elastic attached to the line clip?
@HampshireAnglingTV8 жыл бұрын
Once you've cast and hit the clip, you take the line off so the fish can take line as normal in the event of the take. You attach the line with the pole elastic as a marker to the clip once you wish to cast out again. Tom

Good method, doesnt the maggot hookbait plague you with small stuff, a tend to find half a worm a better option.

what was the main line breaking strain please
@HampshireAnglingTV8 жыл бұрын
6lb which was proportionate to Duncan's 5lb 14oz hooklink! This lake doesn't have many snags and is open so you can tire any bonus carp or tench without any trouble! I would use 8lb line though to 6 or 7lb hooklink if you want greater chance of landing bonus fish if there's more structure.

What type of rod are you using please
@HampshireAnglingTV8 жыл бұрын
Hi Peter, Duncan is using a specialist 1.25 test curve rod I believe with the avon tip. The particular model I believe are his old Korum Neoterics which are discontinued, but think you can still track them down on ebay. The drennan avon quivers in 1.25 or 1.5lb test curve will be perfect for this type of fishing. Hope this helps. Tom
