Hey! I'm Chikun, a German Hobby Voice Actor and Game Developer. I started following the progress of Dauphin ever since it started and even though I sometimes miss out on stuff, I always find myself coming back to it, becausw it teaches me things avout Godot I wouldn't have ever thought about. Today, I want to bring you an idea of mine that maybe you haven't thought about before, and that would be translations. I know that it's hard to implement translations in Godot correctly, because I'm still struggeling with that myself, but as soon as you do, it will help with further development and localizations. I myself would be glad to help out on a German translation, as it is my mother tongue, but I really couldn't help on other translations. Have a nice day (idk what time it is for you rn)! :D

Ideas: 1: maybe if you dive in a certain area, certain specific animals will spawn and there might be some new terrain like maybe an entrance to an underwater cave 2: I think there should be a breath system where you have to get a scuba mask to not have to worry about suffocating
@GamesBySaul3 жыл бұрын
Firstly congratulations! Maui looked beautiful! Really love the changes you've done, I think the underwater transition is great! Maybe you could add some bubbles rising up on the screen when you do the transition too, for a bit more polish? :D

Looking great so far, have you considered using the general world coordinates as a random seed for the procedural generation? That way if you dive roughly in the same spot twice, you'll end up in the same underwater area with no data stored.
@Skeffles3 жыл бұрын
Congratulations on your marriage! It's awesome to see the diving mechanic come to life! Can't wait to see what kind of underwater worlds you add next.
@Alche_mist3 жыл бұрын
1) Adding myself to the endless lines of people congratulating you to your wedding. Make sure your lady not only is, but also always feels important. 2) The underwater transition - but that has been written everywhere here and you responded you know. 3) You might use seed and position for generating underwater scenes, thus making sure that if a player dives in the same spot, they'll always see the same underwater scene.
@DevDuck3 жыл бұрын
Thank you Alchemist! #3 is an interesting point - I certainly want the player to see the same general underwater landscape when they dive in the same spot, perhaps with slightly varying sea life each time. I think that should be achievable.

Congratulations on the wedding! Here's to many more happy years to come :) Loving how the game is coming together and always enjoy watching the progress you make. Keep it up man! 💪🏽 A couple of thoughts around the diving experience that might make it a little more intuitive: - perhaps when it's not possible to use the dive flag it could be greyed out in the item bar (and trying to use it shows the "you need to be in deep water..." message) -- could you apply this to other items too? - or maybe when it is possible to use the dive flag, would "pulsing" the flag in the item bar make it more obvious to the user they're able to dive here? - as others have suggested, the "are you sure" message could get really long winded for frequent divers, so maybe only show the message the first ever time the player tries to dive? - as a nice touch when you resurface, it might look really good if the flag were still in the same spot and then do the inverse transition to when the player dives (zoom back out and the flag disappears) Love the videos. Can't wait to see the next one! :)

I know its annoying to be pressured by fan ideas but i have some First the paralex in the under water background, mainly the "mountains" in the back, the very far away one should almost not move, the far away should move a bit faster, and the present sea floor should move normally, and they would move in Up/Down/Left/Right i think it would make a super cool effect Another idea is part on one of the animations, specifically when you are swimming up, instead of just seeing the side of the character while swimming up, you could see his front while swimming up, so you could see his arms swimming with more detail
@burntbeanies78863 жыл бұрын
Congratulations on your marriage!!!! Absolutely stoked for u! Lovely work on the game as well but obviously this new development in your life is INCREDIBLEE
@abelrashid51843 жыл бұрын
You should add some point of interest in the deep water. Like adding a small area that sparkles to indicate that there's a rare item or event if the player dive in that spot.

To me, I feel like there's something slightly off about the animation when you abruptly stop swimming under water. If I could, I'd recommend maybe transitioning to your upright treading-water sprite when you stop moving and decreasing motion speed via delta instead of just setting it to zero. But maybe that's just from watching it without feeling it how it actually controls. You're doing awesome work. Keep it up, fam!
@DevDuck3 жыл бұрын
Totally agree! Both the animations and general feeling / inertia of the movement are next on my list to improve.

that menu and transition, is rather long, if this is something that is done frequency - something like 9 seconds from my stop watch. If this is something that would be done frequency, I would suggest changing it to something that only takes maybe 2 seconds and if you want some sort of confirmation, have the user hold a button down to dive and show a progress bar as the dive animation plays, if they release before fully diving it cancels the dive. The first time, that animation/dialog is nice, but if i was to have to dive frequently, I would quickly get annoyed at that transition time.
@DevDuck3 жыл бұрын
I agree. As I was continuing to test all this functionality I realized the animation was becoming a bit of a drag.

I wonder if it would be fun/interesting to implement a dive depth feature to know how deep you are going, and maybe some sort of penalty for ascending too quickly from a dive like in real life from decompression sickness. It may not be valuable to actually add, but might be cool to explore the idea :) P.S. Congrats on getting married!! That is so exciting

Hi I have a suggestion! Maybe right before the player dives into the ocean, maybe he could have a little wind up and then drop into the water? By the way, not to be nitpicky, but the water texture kinda looks like a blue coat hanger. I hope that you take all of this into consideration! Btw, congrats!!!

SUGGESTION: When the character dives - have head plop down- out of view, THEN add flippers that then dive down for a "secondary animation element" Make animation - a bit more realistic. Chuck Jones used this in all his Warner Bros animation - when animating a following tail BEHIND a cat character etc.. The character's head just plopping down... feels like there is something missing - not natural - looks like a turtle diving VS a human.
