All sounds good in their own way, but I think Shreddage Hydra sounds overall the best. Might come down to which one's workflow suits you the best.

In my personal opinion I think the Odin wins, but Hydra could also win by preference. I think Odin has a bit better mid range and realism!

Unfortunately, the sustain on Odin is not nearly long enough for me. Huge bummer as the tone is decent

It's a close call between the Hydra & Odin - I'd say Hydra just edges it out but that's based on my personal stylistic preferences. Sick comparison vid!

1. Hydra (and by far) 2. Hellraiser 3. Odin (super unnatural picking sounds) 5. Real Eight (very fake sound, too few round robins)

2:13 Hydra 2:21 AMH AMH sounds more mechanical but hydra sounds like sloppy palm muting. Why is this, is it because the midi data is different? I noticed with AMH as I bought it the other day, it sounds more human when you change the velocity slightly on all midi strikes with repetitive palm mutes like this

Awesome comparison, we've just added a link to it in our latest vid. Odin II and Hydra do sound the most realistic, which can't be said about RealEight, sadly :(

Great comparison video! Been meaning to grab a solid all around metal guitar solution for scoring. I like how hydra handles the stops and articulations the best, sounds the realest to me. Each has a unique sound, I can see why one might pull from one library for one progression or motif and from another.I’m assuming you write a lot in this style so I trust these 4 VSTis are all stellar! I think I’ll do some more research on hydra but all around really awesome video!!! Straight to point no bs love it! Thank you for making this, and sick track!!!!!!

The only big issue that I see with the Shreddage Hydra is that it is not equipped to tune any lower than Drop E. Other than that, the Hydra is a great VST. The Musiclab RealEight doesn't perform well when regarding middle frequencies, so that may be an issue. I do love the simplicity of its setup though. The Solemn Tones Odin plugin, in my opinion, is better for demo mixes. It's tone is good, but it's sound isn't as natural as the other guitars demoed in this song. Overall, I favor the Ample Metal Hellrazer over the other guitars. That's just my opinion though.

Been on the hunt for a metal guitar VST. Got Neural stuff for amps/cabs/mics. Real 8 sounds fake. Odin is too muddy. It's between the Hydra and Hellraiser...but...I really don't like having to need Kontakt for the Hydra(even though it works with the free Kontakt Player). I had Higher 7 Strings in mind...but dunno. Gotta keep in mind that the not so popular ones/less experience with guitars plays a factor in support/longevity/updates/etc. The chugs are better with Hellraiser vs. Hydra. Real 8 even beat the Hydra and Odin with the chugs. Using Yamaha HS8(pair) with HS8S connected to an Apollo Twin X Quad in a sound treated room. So far, the Hellraiser is the best overall. Holy shiitake mushrooms does the Hellraiser sound baller when it comes in at 2:53.

I have everything here, can confidently say wasted my money on Odin and real eight, yeah sure hellrazer sounds good here but it’s a fuckint pain to mix and I do not recommend whole hardedly, the built in presets and amps are god awful and there are no seperate samples for double tracking so you’re relying on sample offset for dt

You are my favorite KZbinr... please van you do a video when you programme the vst ? There is one thing i want to know: sometimes you take two différent guitares from realheight(for exemple), and the sound is stereo. whereas me when I do that the sound stays in the center. Therefor I use double tracking but the inconvenience is that the two guitars are not independent of each other. Do you have any advice? Keep up the good work you're awesome 😱

Hell raiser for chords hydra is better for tremolo and pinch harmonics probably. Tough to choose between hell raiser would be better in most situations but having weak tremolo sounds is a problem

RealEight almost sounds slightly out of tune. Seems higher than everything else by a half step. Something off with it. The Odin definitely has more low end than Shreddage but RealEight and Hellrazor should be comparable and the RealEight sounded terrible here. Too much high end, but I'm nearly certain it sounds out of tune too. Is it playing a different riff to everything else in the one-to-one comparison?
